I am currently doing maintenance on the blog: I have disabled some of the previous functionality by removing nearly all the plugins. Hopefully this will solve the problems and I can rebuild the site with safer plugins. Please be patient during the process.
Please Note: Authors may of course continue to post new posts. Commenters can comment as usual (with no ability to edit your comments or add rich text formatting unless you know html). Carry on as normal. The site will just look rather bloggish for the next few hours.
Hi petros, Thanks for working on this. While you are there, can you arrange that when we go to a recent comment, it goes to the end of the thread instead of the beginning.
More room on the right column for recent comments would be helpful. Finally do we need to keep dormant threads and comments for more than 6 months or so?
The biggest issue as the site becomes popular is difficulty in keeping track’
If I lose a comment I usually search and then limit my search to a week or a month. That works quite well. Cheers The Duke.
@Duke, if I knew why it jumps to the wrong page instead of to the comment, I’d fix it. I don’t know why it does it or how to fix it. The permalink worked always at wordpress.com when we were hosted by them, but since the change in June, where you end up has been rather slipshod.
As for dormant threads, they don’t really get in the way. And yes, we need to keep the blog intact. There are sophisticated ways to search things if you know how to do it.
Finally do we need to keep dormant threads and comments for more than 6 months or so?
@ Duke of Devon
I hope Petros retains ALL threads and comments because you never know when someone will find a nugget in some of the older stuff. And yes, it is difficult to keep track but Just Me seems to have a knack for organizing it all. Maybe he could give us all some tips. I save a lot of stuff as links and WP docs but my Isaac Brock folder is NOT a lesson in good management.
thanks a bjillion for the work you have done, are doing
you can get here via clicking the facebook links. But I cannot get here by typing

nor by clicking upon the header at the top of this page
@ Mark Twain
Try the Canadian URL … isaacbrocksociety.ca
Thanks for all you do Petros. I believe that you and the other IBS originators and all the participants have created a historical and significant artefact here. There is no other equivalent to this site. We would be bereft without it. It provides succor and information, and an avenue for collaboration. The site is a living document. I like that.
This is a living instance of the power of the internet to connect disparate individuals collaborating to share information that is hard to come by otherwise, and to oppose and offset this particular exercise of US hegemony and excess http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hegemony http://www.caledonia.org.uk/hegemony.htm
The smartest thing the US could do for itself is to announce a complete tax amnesty – and remove all barriers to renunciation. The US would benefit from encouraging as many as possible of us abroad to officially divest ourselves of any remaining relationship to the US. Otherwise, it has just created, and will have to maintain and control a growing class of angry, resentful and unwilling individuals and families who are only citizens because the US holds them as economic hostages.
Aye, Aye, badger!!
excuse me, (not .com= when i type in
http://www.isaacbrocksociety.ca
I get redirected to a web naming site
http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/
@Mark Twain This is intended behavior, because there is a CNAME alias pointing www. to isaacbrocksociety.ca
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: isaacbrocksociety.ca
Address: 64.69.66.200

@Em I agree that we need to keep all of the dormant threads.
So if you are watching this, I am rebuilding the site based on the upgraded cyberchimps theme. This may take a few minutes.
@Petros I am watching. Looks like the slider bar picture of the Brock battle is a little big. But it looks like it will be a good theme once it gets tuned up the way you want it. Good luck, and thanks for all of your hard work.
I don’t seem to have control over the size of the slider. I agree, that it seems a little big.
Subscribe is now available from WordPress.com (see side panel). Those who were receiving a notice from isaacbrocksociety@wordpress.com will be able to subscribe here and unsubscribe there.
Perhaps we can just have the profile pic of Sir Brock on the right side, without the big banner picture.
I like the banner, but it was too tall. I have the same problem on my blog (though I don’t use a slider).
But the other elements of the slider that where there before were good (slavery article, FATCA banner, etc).
The new theme looks really nice; uncluttered and elegant. Many thanks for all your efforts, Petros.
I’ve added WordPress.com’s Jetpack, which has included: (1) a subscribe feature that works; (2) embed Youtube videos with the link (including https:// ); (3) have images on the side bar (see Sir Brock), and not a few other features.
Jetpack is a plugin created by WordPress, and my hope is that it will be far more stable than adding plugins by diverse developers.
I also wish to express all my gratitude, Petros! 🙂
Sorry for not explaining right. When I click on the title or enter http://www.isaacbrocksociety.ca, I am directed to
a web-naming page
another domain registered by webnames.ca
This domain is hosted by Webnames.ca and is currently under development.
Please check back later for updates.
When I enter via clicking on the facebook page, I get here ok.
I see that the comment traffic is down, I cannot be the only person experiening this
@Petros, Thank you for making this site a wonderful place for all of us, it is so much appreciated..
I really like the evolution I am seeing here and your work. It is becoming a much cleaner looking site and easier to read! Well Done Petros. Thanks again. The crash has benefited us all with the new look.
I am going to try the subscribe Link in the side column to see if it works in this newest version. Will let you know.
The Post Comment tick boxes working well.
Is there a way to add back the ability to make a text comment a hyperlink again without having to post the entire link. No big deal if it is not, as I tend to shorten to bitly links anyway which then are not sooo long. 🙂
Thanks again Petros
Good work Petros. Clean and functional so far. Less can be far more.
Nothing like blowing out a tire to motivate acquisition of the most roadworthy possible chunk of round rubber.
For want of a $200 tire a $30,000 vehicle was totaled? (Not to mention that the driver died.)
I hope things are going better soon, as every time I post, it seems I get an error. 🙁 Hopefully this one will post.
