Brockers are interviewed in Patrick Cain’s new article at Global news. He writes:
Is a second citizenship in the United States an asset? It depends.
Many Canadians have built careers in the U.S. that were simplified by the accident of their birthplace, or of a parent’s. If you want to work in the U.S., it’s useful to not have to worry about visas and green cards. (“Home is the place where, when you go there, they have to let you in,” wrote New England poet Robert Frost.)
But it became a potential liability in February when Canada made a deal with the U.S. on the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, or FATCA.

Harper had better be so glad that I haven’t decided to run for Prime Minister.
If I was voted in as Prime Minister:
a) I’d be telling the US Ambassador that I consider the actions of FATCA as an act of financial war against Canada; that the diplomatic immunity and rights of the staff and diplomats at every single consulate is hereby revoked; they have 48 hours to remove themselves from Canada. Any FATCA IGA with the United States would be revoked.
b) I’d be closing ALL the borders to the United States.
c) The Super Arrow would become a reality with either the Rafale or the Gripen as an interim fighter for our Royal Canadian Air Force. And if they couldn’t give us a decent amount of fighters for a reasonable amount of money – the US would be crapping bricks as they’d be seeing Canadian MiGs and Sukhois flying over Canada until such time as the Super Arrow was put into service.
d) Canada needs to incorporate ground attack into their national defense doctrine.
e) Military bases would be reopened on the mainland near the 49th parallel with guns pointed south. The 1st through 5th Canadian Divisions would be based out of those bases based on area. Of primary importance would be war drills based on invasion by the United States.
f) The Peace Arch will be closed for the first time since its opening in 1921.
g) All Canadian policies will be geared towards Canadian protectionism.
Sorry, but FATCA has turned me absolutely anti-American.
@FromTheWilderness
Do you have independent evidence that these fifteen countries have been exempted? I have never heard of such a thing and I am quite skeptical.
Thanks.
@Northershrike
Exempted from sanctions because they have indicated that they intend to sign IGAs:

@ The_Animal You left out that Canada should get nukes, that’s the real game-changer.
I am suddenly seeing banner ads on news websites against FATCA from the “dollar collapse is imminent” crowd. The gold bugs, tin-foil-hat crowd etc are our new best friends. God bless them, we need all the help we can get:

@all
I believe bubblebustin started that FB group
Actually- when one thinks about it- seeing that the whole world is literally dependent on american markets- WE should all be calling the shots there! LOL
i think the FB group of ex-Americans is great, you guys are true pioneers. I remember just a few short years ago, there was no where you could go on the internet to read actual accounts of people renouncing their citizenship. Now this website has it, it is truly awesome.
@leroybrown
You can’t make this stuff up!
leroybrown,
The Facebook group of ex-Americans is awesome (although I don’t “do” Facebook). You will also find an excellent resource here at Isaac Brock, collected and maintained by Pacifica, an account of all the experiences for claim of relinquishment or renunciation that people have reported to this site: http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/consulate2/, including a whole lot more regarding requirements of IRS forms, etc. for same. Check it out.
@The Animal
I like the way you think and wish everyone here would adopt this attitude. We are at WAR with the United States make no mistake and they have inserted one of their terrorists into our Parliament as PM. Soon people who are shocked by this statement will wake up to the facts.
Articles like this are good for the general public to read because it gets to a lot of idiots thinking about immigrating to the USA. Will it stop those with a low IQ from trying to immigrate to the USA? I hope not because we don’t need anymore stupid non English/French people coming into this country. Let them use Canada as a stepping stone on their way to Hell (USA) but let the good brains stop draining. Anyone of any intelligence are going to realize that US citizenship is toxic and there must be good reasons why so many are renouncing. I love stories like this because it bursts their image of the USA. The more of these we can get into the MSM the quicker immigration to the US from Canada will dry up.
Wherever I go and whoever I speak to I keep my hatred for the USA in mind and even if the topic of conversation is unrelated to the issue I never miss an opportunity to slam the USA. I do it all the time and believe me I get some shocked looks from people. I urge everyone to slam the USA and wage a propaganda war aimed at anyone that is thinking about moving to the USA or spending their winters there. Again, if anyone can discourage snowbirds from spending money in the USA then we should do it. Just tell anyone you know that is a snowbird that the laws have changed and its now dangerous for them and they should sell their homes there if they have any and stop going.
I’d like to see an article on the dangers of being a snowbird to the USA that we can link to
Here are a couple snowbird links:

The comments to that post have other media links on snowbirds. There are several discussions of the “snowbird problem” that can be accessed from the Isaac Brock Archives at the top of the home page.
I realize most people are just venting here but this thread seems to have taken a sharp left turn onto CRAZY street. Nukes? Seriously people?
Talk of war with a country that has 10 times our population and resources reminds me of what Pakistan does with India. Pakistan is a tiny little country that is always picking wars with countries bigger than itself. Each time they go to war with India, Pakistan has been cut down in size. While India prospers, Pakistan withers.
The reason we can afford universal health coverage in Canada is because we don’t spend all our money preparing for a war against a country we could never defeat anyway. Talk of war with the US is just utter nonsense. It’s fine to vent, but I fear there’s at least one poster who is not venting and making us all look like a bunch of loons. This is not the Rob Ford channel. There I vented too.
I think we need to focus all energy on two things. At the point we are at now, we need to hold our government accountable for the decisions it wants to make to create a group of second class Canadians. The second thing is to work like crazy to get the word out on this. Education seems to be power here and the more people find out, the stronger the numbers are against this failure of a leader we have. I’m sending the message all over the world and directing people here to learn what both governments do not want people to know. I am raging angry at Fatca and what it is doing to innocent Canadians.It has never been more clear as to why Flaherty resigned. Now, he is likely being silenced by force to shut up about it. This is how bad it is right now and in 3 months, all hell will break loose.

Please tell me if I am starting to sound like a loon with my recent post as pastbeyond60 over at global news:

I am actually starting to feel like a loon and trying to not let is show! Maybe I need some reigning in here. I know once I think something is over the top I start to discredit all of it.
Here is more marketing being done about how to ditch that passport. A new growth industry…

Have all your #FATCA questions answered on Apr 24 when we host a free seminar in #YYC on renouncing #US citizenship http://t.co/LtJh9WNxAR
@Joe Blow, you said
“Perhaps we can start an ex-American club where membership requires a CLN or evidence of relinquishment. HQ can be in Canada with chapters worldwide.”
I’m in for that. About a year ago I suggested organizing a party in Toronto this spring for CLN holders. I’m still interested in pursuing that, but I don’t feel in a celebratory mood yet with the FATCA IGA implementation hidden in the Harper Government’s pending budget bill. If we can get that part of the budget bill withdrawn, that will be occasion for a major celebration. If not, we can still have a party, but it will be a wake rather than a celebration.
@ omgheestillanamerican
I think a little venting serves a purpose. Remember, aside from a forum to take action and exchange information, I think this is also a support group like for cancer. Yank citizenship is a vicious cancer but fortunately it need not be terminal.
@Charl,
You were not over the top, it is FATCA, FBAR and CBT that are over the top.
@AnonAnon,
An Ex-American Club will have no time for partying. The initial focus should be on stopping the persecution of all Americans abroad (millions are still trapped) and how Ex-Americans can move on from being abused and rebuild our lives from the rubble of America’s War on Expats.
@ Charl
You’re doing great at Global News. I tried a comment (with a link) and got this message “Hold on, this is waiting to be approved by globalnews.ca.” It’s probably the link that’s the problem but my comment, although It’s not in the CBE realm of rhetoric, is more over the top than my usual stuff. It may not pass muster with the Global News moderators. I might delink it and try again later just because I’m curious about the hold. Maybe they don’t want any mention of the New World Order.
omgheestillanamerican – the simple fact is that you, despite your membership here, are nothing but an American Apologist with the attitude of “the USA’s the 900lb gorilla in the room. Let’s appease him so that he won’t step on me.” and your platitudes of “Talk of war with the United States is crazy because it’s a war we couldn’t win” is sheer bunk. Remember Viet Nam? And all of Nixon’s rhetoric about the little “slant-eyed buggers can’t stand up to US Airpower” didn’t work. They all just went underground. It’s about time we slammed the doors on Americans and the ones who think that Canada is America’s hat will end up being sorely surprised when their oil taps and water taps turn off. And that’ll bring out the truth of American foreign policy – that America’s foreign policy is based on the hostile takeover of Canadian sovereignty.
@Em, you got posted! Reckon they are OK with New World Order, lets wake up stuff. (Unlike the TEWealth goons who just ditched all of our comments…four letter word for them).
I am counting on you to tell me when I’ve lost it. As I type in the comment sections I just get more enraged by the minute. My gnarly paws start typing so fast God knows what will come out. I do try with all my might to hold back the four letter words.
OK, maybe it is just my imagination but it seems that this week I have not run into one “FATCA is the greatest thing since the wheel, don’t let the door hit you on the way out” folk. Do you think we gave our dear Mr Hunter a heart attack with the last go around? I rather miss him, gave ya somethin’ to bounce off of. Would It be naive to think that the crazies are starting to “get it”? I would have certainly thought that the WSJ article would have engendered some yahoos but all were anti-FUCTA. Just loved the one from the FATCA implementation person.
“I realize most people are just venting here but this thread seems to have taken a sharp left turn onto CRAZY street. Nukes? Seriously people?”
No…but that’s the viewpoint of most Americans. “You piss us off and we’ll nuke you.”
The Untold Truth from the USA: Either you give into FATCA or We Nuke You. #FATCA #USAisDANGEROUS when broke.

@The_Animal, you’re absolutely right about the American attitude and they are far more broke and therefore more dangerous than anybody realizes.
Squeezing ex-pats for loose change is not going to be enough for them. The next victims will be the banks and therefore all Canadians. Even if Canada cooperates through the IGA, it’s only a matter of time before the Americans find an excuse to say the country is not in compliance and starts withholding on all Canadian banks … that’s where the big money is.
Why the big hunt for Americans worldwide? Because wealthy Americans resident in the US know the truth about what’s going on and many have actually purchased large pieces of land in Canada as a place to escape to when the social unrest in the US reaches a level that the rich have to flee the country.
Canadian banks think they’ve dodged a bullet by throwing US expats under the bus, but they are only fooling themselves. Eventually, our banks will be crushed and that’s when the mainstream Canadian media will really start to talk about how bad the Americans are.
” Because wealthy Americans resident in the US know the truth about what’s going on and many have actually purchased large pieces of land in Canada as a place to escape to when the social unrest in the US reaches a level that the rich have to flee the country.”
And unfortunately that sticks to most of us who have clinging indicia whether by US birth, by birth to a US parent or like me, who are married to an American.
But I still do not hold to the idea that the US cannot be defeated. I, for one, have no problem giving the finger to Uncle Sam. As far as I’m concerned, he has absolutely no right to look into my financial savings and earnings and if he expects that I am going to comply (as a Canadian born to Canadian parents) then he can go pound sand.
