I asked in a comment,
What will be discussed? Can anyone from here be there?
AnonAnon answered:
@calgary411 –
I’m planning to show up at Joe Oliver’s luncheon on Monday with a protest sign. I hope others can join me.
Opportunity? for conversation or at least protest to the new Finance Minister, Joe Oliver
April 4, 2014
Minister of Finance to Address the Canadian Club of Toronto
Minister of Finance Joe Oliver will deliver remarks at a luncheon hosted by the Canadian Club of Toronto, on Monday, April 7, 2014. The Minister is scheduled to speak at approximately 1:00 p.m.
The event will take place at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, 100 Front Street West, in Toronto, Ontario.
Way to go AnonAnon. Well done in every respect. Beautiful stealth.
So typical for rent-a-cops to try to lay claim to public realm like exterior sidewalk. Happy memories of an instance where a pseudo-cop threatened to phone the police, I said go ahead [“make my day” unspoken], real cops came, just took a look and left.
Know your rights. Get the cop out of your head.
@AnonAnon,
Good job! Thanks for all your (and B’s) efforts.
@AnonAnon,
We had a similar ‘sidewalk’ issue with security outside the metro Toronto Convention Center when protesting against the bankers last November. They made us stand on the curb.
I sent my Joe Oliver e-mails to his parliamentary address (Joe.Oliver@parl.gc.ca). Does anyone have another address I could try? I’d sure like to know how the hoity-toity contact him. He’s probably got a gold-plated e-mail box, top drawer of his exalted finance desk, designated just for them. Something tells me OUR e-mails go straight into a dingy “discard” or “disregard” box.
Excellent Anon Anon et B. Well done. The more these questions get circulated the better. I am quite sure that folk inside the room spent some minutes talking about the flyer and FATCA.
Good work, AnonAnon and friend. I think you did great; used your resources strategically with the “suits”. Congratulations!
AA&B rock!
“Ottawa will be focused on giving Canadian families more tax breaks, Oliver told a largely Bay Street crowd at a Canadian Club of Toronto luncheon.”
……..”“Our priority will be to provide tax relief for hardworking Canadian families,” he said”
“…….relief for ‘hard-working Canadian families’ who pay too much in taxes would follow. ”
http://www.thestar.com/business/economy/2014/04/07/finance_minister_joe_oliver_pledges_tax_relief_after_budget_balanced.html
We apparently don’t count in the relief for ‘hardworking Canadian families’ who ‘need tax relief’ – because of the circumstances of our birth – by parentage or geographical accident.
And, Joe has a conflict of interest re FATCA and standing on guard for ordinary Canadians -whether born or naturalized as duals:
“…….he became an investment banker with Merrill Lynch. He became executive director of the Ontario Securities Commission and was also named the CEO of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.”
Who do you think Oliver sees as his peers? Whose interests do you think he cares about? Canadian banksters and their investment kin, or ordinary Canadian citizen, voter and accountholder individuals whose Charter rights are being trampled by his fellow Harperites who signed Canada down the river into US Treasury servitude via the FATCA IGA?
Funny thing: that members of an ordinary Canadian family were forced out of Oliver’s speaking venue, so that only the finance elites in the audience could listen to him promise to help ordinary Canadians. Nope, no friend of democracy is Oliver. No friend of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, No friend of Canadians.
Oliver doesn’t stand on guard for thee and me.
Thank you, thank you AnonAnon and friend!
Leave it to bubblebustin to come up with that — perfect.
Thanks to all for your feedback, and my thanks go to calgary411 especially, for bringing Oliver’s appearance to our attention in the first place.

You and everyone else can subscribe to the Department of Finance email alerts here:

Thank you Calgary411 for posting it the alert 🙂
If I sign up for the Fin. Can. e-mail alerts would they read a reply? I’m still hoping to find a way to get through to Joe Oliver.
Em,
If at first we don’t succeed, we can try another way. Chances are that part of Mr. Oliver’s instructions are not to communicate with the “Americans who happen to live in Canada”. Part of the Con strategy:
Apologies to AnonAnon.
A DAY LATE (as I don’t check my gmail account as often as I should). Here is AnonAnon’s flyer used at the Finance Minister Joel Oliver event yesterday — a good one for future use!!!!
