‘How to Mail Your Form I-407 (And Why)’
Very informative.
Not meant as an endorsement of services, but I’ve found Hodgen’s blogs to be very very useful and often found info there and explanation that is nowhere else.
@ badger
I used the USCIS address provided by the Calgary consulate. Sent the I-407 by registered and trackable mail. Got an online mail tracker confirmation of receipt and then … nothing … no officially stamped I-407 was returned to me. The attached registered mail receipt request was ignored. No response to follow-up letters. Said to self, fuggedaboudit. I am and always have been ONLY a Canadian citizen. That’s it.
I know that ex us citzens can collect ss benefits but does the loss of us citzenship effect spousal benefits of non us spouses? Are they still entitled ? Put another way can someone who had relinquished and having a foreign born spouse claim spousal ss benefits.in the Canadian context.?
Would appreciate helpful information.
Robert Ross – “I know that ex us citzens can collect ss benefits but does the loss of us citzenship effect spousal benefits of non us spouses? Are they still entitled ?”
Yes they’re still entitled. My ex didn’t claim (tiny benefit not worth the trouble), but could have. The FBU informed me – I didn’t even know a spousal benefit existed, much less that it could be claimed by the ex-spouse of an ex-citizen. Strange.
@ Robert Ross
Yes.

Seems to help (pg7 reference).I consider myself as self relinquished. My wife and I have been receiving small ss benefits for a while now and even though we count it as our monthly coffee allowance, every little bit helps.
Much thanks.
“every little bit helps.”
Yep, that’s the way I see it.
Actually I think my ex was afraid to claim it after listening to me rant about America. 🙂
