[We now have a NEW POST taking us up to February 1, 2015. This post will be retired from service.]
THE AUTUMN 2014 UPDATE
Dear Donors,
Together, we reached our goal of $100,000 to pay the November 1 legal bill 11 days ahead of schedule!
Thank you Canadian donors from coast to coast and our friends from around the world for your generosity, support and determination — and especially for not being afraid.
The name of our non-profit corporation is the “Alliance for the Defence of Canadian Sovereignty.”
We were very deliberate in including in our name the word “sovereignty”, which forms a cornerstone of our Claims against the Government of Canada.
Canada and dozens of other countries throughout the world gave into a bully because their “leaders” were afraid of harm caused by a trading “partner” — and they gave their sovereignties away.
Help us convince by example the Leaders and Governments of all countries worldwide that they should return their sovereignties back to their Peoples.
Please continue to support our lawsuit.

Chers donateurs,
» (Helen Keller)

The T-Shirt can have the date of your “second class Canadian” Ceremony on it. We need to have a “live” ceremony with the media present our New Canadians with their New citizenship which has “new” stripped rights and freedoms in Canada. We also need to create a “new” citizenship handbook for the “new” Canadians. This is CANADIAN Reality people!
I don’t know if anyone out there is listening, but the big news here in Toronto is that we just received another one of those twigs in the closet.
Really nice twig.
Stephen
@Stephen:
We are listening!
And wishing and hoping…..
@ brockers. thanks for this kick in the pants. $500 CAD now donated [the rest of my savings for july !]. good luck and keep us posted_…. i have started gathering stock for a book sale here in London to raise funds,
I wish I could disclose the note. Thank you.
Thank you Stephen. Without you, I don’t know where our family will find comfort. Thank you to all who donate to this fight, you are my family’s heros….
How about car washes with people holding big signs on the street corner “CLEAN YOUR CAR AND HARPER’S CLOCK” or something of the like 🙂
@ Stephen Kish
Yes I’m listening and happy to hear you got it. There is something coming from my husband too. His bank isn’t in a closet. 🙂 BTW, the “Bee” is for Brock.
I just sent my second donation via PayPal. Without PayPal my husband and I would have been concerned about outing ourselves to the bank via a cheque or credit card. They might suspect us of being at least friends of “US persons”. If we aren’t actually US citizens ourselves, we must be fellow travellers, dangerous subversives. Having a glimmer of a thought similar to that of an American could be a new, super-secret category of US person. So I’m glad that I could send this small donation, and I wish it could be more.
@ Everyone – Thank you all so much for the donations large and small that you have scraped together for this cause…we need every dime for this to be a success. Spread the word, have bake sales, garage sales or whatever other means you can think of to get some extra cash to make this happen. This will be a feat of strength and sheer will by us ‘little people’ to fight Goliath!
@Queenston
So you are saying you are less worried making your donation via an American company (PayPal) than via a Canadian bank? That surprises me–I thought it would be the other way ’round. I’m curious why you think that?
@Queenston,
Wow, I just realized I put a donation on a credit card held by a bank with which I do NO other dealings! This was not intentional, but it should have been! I got a phone call inquiring about the authenticity of the charge to that credit card, and even then, never had any thoughts of connecting my name with the ‘organization’ or the cause. Hmmmm…..I think I will use THAT credit card for any future donations.
I renounced my US citizenship in 2010. I don’t intend to enter US. Do I still need to file 8854 and FABR? Can IRS come after my bank accounts in the country of residence because of FATCA? Any other implications? What are the options I have? Many thanks, John
I think we need a new post called ‘A$$HOLE Comment of the Day’ or something like that at which we post the most asinine comment from a FATCA related article, and then redirect the idiot who made the comment over to Brock, so Brockers can have a go at him.
Sorry, just fuming after reading this comment:
WhiteKat, I really do not care about your Canadian issues with the IRS. What I do care about is that the wealthiest Americans are not paying their taxes and leaving ordinary Americans to pay the taxes they refuse to pay. The only thing I care about is the U.S. Government and the IRS getting those cheaters to pay up. Anything else is a mere distraction. All I have to say, and this is why I am rude, is that Canadian issues had better not create a disturbance that gets these Wealthy American Tax Cheaters off the hook or distract from the IRS getting them.
WhiteKat: I couldn’t agree more! I think all of us here are hoping that “Canadian issues” are going to make one Hell of a disturbance!
Re “A$$hole Comment of the Day”
Something like that would help our outrage but it won’t help the perception that those “others” out there have of us. It is more than unjust that our Canadian (and other governments) have not stood up for their so-called *US Persons*. We know our enemy by knowing the perception that others have. They have that perception because that is what the general populace has been fed, that is what the “managing” governments want and that is what the media takes their lead from.
A lot of the “They” will consider those like you / like us JUSTIFIED “collateral damage” to get at the “Wealthy American Tax Cheaters” (or even think we are such).
Of course, it is just perception that this will get to those “Wealthy American Tax Cheaters” because they are smarter and have the wealth to do what we cannot — and have long ago flown the coop to speak. They are likely laughing at how we (the US tax US citizenship-based taxation collateral damage, comprised of individuals and families earning income in and paying taxes to the countries in which they choose to live) are their fall guys.
It is good for us to realize that few on either side of the border really care of our plights.
I hope that will spur *US Persons Abroad* to continue to fight the only real way left — through the courts. Expensive litigation is necessary on both sides of the border — at a cost to the very victims of this as our governments have no spine to protect ALL their people, having shredded in Canada on Canada Day the Charter of Rights and Freedoms for ALL Canadians.
Surely the Harper government / our Conservative MPs know that THE ONLY WAY THIS IS *NOT* DISCRIMINATION BY NATIONAL ORIGIN, is having ALL Canadians’ financial information sent to the IRS, including their own financial information! They are not, however, capable of having a walk in our shoes.
As it is at the complete cost to our countries’ “foreign financial institutions” to fund their round up of persons with *US indicia* or any of their US transactions will have a 30% discount, so it is at our complete cost to fight this unconstitutional law through our courts. And, of course, we are also guilty until proven otherwise (enabling legislation passed by our governments allowing foreign law to come into our countries and override our own countries’ laws) .

@WhiteKat – where did that juvenile comment come from ? Perhaps the poster should be referred to the Police both in Canada and in whatever jurisdiction the poster resides in …. that sentence ” All I have to say, and this is why I am rude, is that Canadian issues had better not create a disturbance that gets these Wealthy American Tax Cheaters off the hook or distract from the IRS getting them” seems a clear threat to me.
The little pea brain seems to think that their personal vengeance in getting the “Wealthy American Tax Cheats” is of paramount importance and it matters not that collateral damage is done to everyone else on earth ! What a childish attitude … sorry kids, that indeed is even too silly an attitude for a child …..
@Calgary411, I wasn’t serious about the A$$HOLE post, just venting. I DO however, redirect as many as I can over to isaacbrocksociety to have further ‘intelligent’ (cough) debate, but surprisingly, they never take me up on my offer. 🙂
Dash1729, WhiteKat:
I’m concerned about my bank finding any printed, “paper” link to my possible solidarity with Americans in Canada, since they might assume that I am also tainted. The bank could then send my financial information to the CRA/IRS without telling me, do this every year, and might even try to make conducting my current financial affairs difficult, as has happened in other countries already.
The IRS will probably be notified when my CLN is issued – we applied in March, and were told we shouldn’t have a problem – but they won’t have complete financial records to plan their tax and fine harassment. They can’t collect in Canada anyway, but my local bank can make my life miserable here.
I know EXACTLY where you’re coming from, WhiteKat. The venting is vital for us.
We’re not being heard well because the media has not kept this in the news — especially that this could be “negotiated” by our Conservative government behind closed doors to the very people it affects, continuing on to the actual signing of the IGA and then the implementation of that IGA hidden in an omnibus bill, with the final insult that the implementation of the FACTA IGA wasn’t even mentioned in the government news release that Bill C-31 was now Canadian law. No big deal, eh?
I cannot understand why the media does not find that this whole process was obscene and why it has not properly continued to inform so-called *US Persons* in Canada (and other countries) that they are and how they are going to be carved up and served on a platter to the US IRS, through our Canadian “foreign financial institutions” and our Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It just doesn’t compute for me and I don’t see how it could compute for the media. But what do I know?
John Lee. Your question might have received an earlier answer on the renunciation thread. If you have no assets in the states, no heirs there and no intention of going there, there is nothing they can do to you.
It is of interest to others here that they haven ‘t bothered you in the 4 yrs. since you renounced.
Since discrimination became legal in Canada on July 1st, which gave birth to the second class citizen, there’s nothing to stop our government from targeting other minorities for whatever reason. This sets a terrible precedent in that no one is safe. ADCS must succeed, no matter what the threat is against them.
At first they came for the Socialists…
I know that some of you will find this hard to believe, but — this morning I just received yet another donation from the more “reserved” member of the Canadian Twig family.
Stephen
I imagine that Mrs Twig can be very persuasive.
I sent in a donation and apologize for its lateness. My husband and I have talked about being plaintiffs but fear having our names out they as we live close to the US border and often cross to boost family and friends. That may change if the border guards start asking FATCA questions.
I don’t know who the ‘twig” family is but glad they are on our side.
