[We now have a NEW POST taking us up to February 1, 2015. This post will be retired from service.]
THE AUTUMN 2014 UPDATE
Dear Donors,
Together, we reached our goal of $100,000 to pay the November 1 legal bill 11 days ahead of schedule!
Thank you Canadian donors from coast to coast and our friends from around the world for your generosity, support and determination — and especially for not being afraid.
The name of our non-profit corporation is the “Alliance for the Defence of Canadian Sovereignty.”
We were very deliberate in including in our name the word “sovereignty”, which forms a cornerstone of our Claims against the Government of Canada.
Canada and dozens of other countries throughout the world gave into a bully because their “leaders” were afraid of harm caused by a trading “partner” — and they gave their sovereignties away.
Help us convince by example the Leaders and Governments of all countries worldwide that they should return their sovereignties back to their Peoples.
Please continue to support our lawsuit.
“Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much.” (Helen Keller)

Chers donateurs,
» (Helen Keller)

‘IRS claims statutory authority for FATCA agreements where no such authority exists’ she says;
“…Treasury is very likely to try to enforce their part of the IGAs.
Since the US side of the IGAs is to deliver very modest undertakings that Treasury also believes can be done without congressional approval (namely, extending the longstanding s. 6049-based information exchange with Canada to other countries), this is probably true; all IGA promises to alter the law in the future should be seen as what they are, unenforceable promises that are beyond Treasury’s control and so won’t be delivered. …” http://taxpol.blogspot.com.au/2014/07/irs-claims-statutory-authority-for.html
Yet another crystal clear reason why this legal challenge must go forward.
Please please, readers, dig in and help the ADCS defend Canadian sovereignty against this unwarranted US extraterritorial economic aggression, and the denial and abrogation of the Charter and Constitutional rights of those in Canada to privacy, to protection and security of our personal and financial data, to our right to be held innocent rather than presumed guilty before the fact, to our right to protection from unwarranted search and seizure of our information and subsequent threat to our legal local Canadian savings, from discrimination based on national origin, birthplace or parentage, and to be treated equally with all other Canadian citizens and residents, etc.
We have now had our first day of FATCA in Canada – on Canada Day 2014.
Are we going to let that singular insult stand unchallenged?
Say NO and donate.
The link to https://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2014/06/01/its-time/www.adcs-adsc.ca does not work. It needs to be fixed by one of the experts.
@Nervous,
Thanks–I will pass on the mention. (But I suspect that at this hour only you and I are awake!)
—–Donors: Please read Badger’s comment above.
I sent along a contribution as a way of saying thank you to Petros for keeping the Isaac Brock Society up and running. As a way of saying thank you to everyone on this web site for helping me get a CLN. As a way of saying thank you to this wonderful community of people who helped me get through one of the most difficult periods in my life.
Mykitty
Thanks very much, Nervous Investor! I fixed it.
MyKitty,
Thank you for the contribution and for mention of the work of Peter and the Isaac Brock Society.
My way of acknowledging this effort is to say simply: There would be no ADCS without Peter and Brock.
Stephen
@Mykitty: Your words speak so beautifully of our situation…
@ADCS: My second donation is on its way. Wish it could be more….
One other reason for non-Canadians/non-Americans living elsewhere to donate.
For the last six months in the EU, I thought things had settled down and we knew how life was going tp be post 1 July 2014. Life had become draconian but there was a degree of acceptance.
The road was poor looking but drivable.
That changed overnight as the clock tolled Junes passing and July arriving.
Life did become that much more difficult and a darker cloud has come over.
Admins, can you add this to my post of July 5, 2014 at 1:25 am above, after “Read the latest by Allison Christians” (so that it is clear what I am referring to)?

Not sure why this is not in a separate thread, but there was large CTV coverage of the FATCA issue and what people thought of it here http://london.ctvnews.ca/video?binId=1.1137524&playlistPageNum=1 This has more than CBC coverage at this point….I am sending this to all local radio stations and talk show hosts for more input and am in contact with CKRZ Aboriginal radio to try to be a guest on the station to give information to the Local Native Community there…
Thanks for your participation in the “July 4th celebration” at Blaze’s place, Native Canadian. I didn’t get to it in the link you provided, but maybe I didn’t listen long enough. Here is the better link: http://london.ctvnews.ca/anti-american-july-4th-party-held-in-london-1.1899674.
For you, I’ve cross-posted the post that Lynne put on MapleSandbox https://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2014/07/06/flying-the-american-flag-upside-down-to-celebrate-july-4th-in-london-on/ to better highlight it here than in the comments where it was discussed.
Maybe update anything you’re sending with the link I’ve just given. Thanks once again for all you’re doing — awesome work, Native Canadian!
We’re back! My donation will be emailed on Thursday and again next month on the same date and again the month after that. Not the same amount each time but, still.
Atticus —missed you— and thanks!
I want ANTI FATCA tshirts with snappy lines. I want a shirt that engages people in conversation, something that conveys an idea like this; “Canada FATCA’d by US; Harper MP says “Congress has spoken. Fight back ‘Support the Alliance for the Defense of Canadian Sovereignty’ “, or something that will really emotionally click with my fellow Canadians (I’m thinking of Just Me’s recent suggestions here https://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2014/07/04/irs-claims-statutory-authority-for-fatca-agreements-where-no-such-authority-exists/comment-page-1/#comment-2174295
Help! I can’t think of the snappiest way to boil it down to its essence,
We’ve been FATCA’d: Harper Conservatives tell Canadians that “the US Congress has spoken”.
Canadian citizens, taxpayers and voters say; tell the US that; “Parliament has spoken”.
Support the Alliance for the Defense of Canadian Sovereignty ADCS.
Inspired by Lynne’s wonderful rejoinder that Finance Canada should go back to the US and say that “Parliament has spoken” http://data.parl.gc.ca/widgets/v1/en/intervention/8360164 which she of determined, articulate and sharp mind stated very clearly and firmly in rebuke to the Conservative MP Mike Allen who sought to rationalize the Harper government’s imposition of FATCA IGA implementing US law in Canada; “Congress has spoken”.

@calgary411, all we need now is a catchy illustration
Someone just sent a photo of Isaac Brock monument and tomb in front of a beautiful blue sky. It was too large to load onto the site though.
I’ve been trying to put together a one page eMail for some of my “pure Canadian” friends. I am trying to put together a brief summary of FATCA along with some reference links.
My goal here is that hopefully some of them will make a small donation, but more importantly I am hoping to get some or most of them to pass along the information to their friends, hoping in that way more “tainted Canadians” can be alerted to their imminent peril. At the moment I would guess roughly 90% of those at risk are unaware that the omnibus has them in their sites. Most of the 10% that are aware probably believe they are fully US tax compliant and also not paying close attention.
That leaves a huge pool of potential donors but no efficient way to contact them. The mainstream media seems largely controlled, usually throwing in the “tax cheat” red herring into their coverage. Since most of FATCA’s potential victims are unaware that they are tax cheats or for that matter American, I suspect that even when they do encounter coverage they don’t really see the implications.
Any ways before I re-invent the wheel, I am hoping someone has already put such a letter together and that a link to it can be posted.
Thanks!
Aside from letters you can take out free ads in local newspapers. Especially publications that go out in weekly smaller batches that locals tend to read a lot more. I did free ads for the meeting in Kingston and there were a LOT more people than I thought there would be just from that.
Some people do not think this matters one iota but, if Canada will bend the rules of our Charter for some citizens now who else is in line and what silly “reasoning” will be given for violating our Charter and taking away anyone else’s rights. This isn’t just about what is happening to the people directly harmed right now though that is awful enough. It’s watching as our politicians gave lame excuses, ill prepared arguments and boldly violated our Charter in front of our eyes taking away some citizens rights. Think you won’t be next or couldn’t be? I’d think again very, very seriously. That’s why a donation to this challenge matters for every single person who thinks making two tiers or three or four of citizenship is flatly wrong.
@Trish, everything you wrote resonates so deeply with me as you know. Tears welled up. What a wonderful heart felt post. I just wish it were all not so. At least after all this time and all these experiences we are not doing this alone. Saving grace that is.
In the two days since our post requesting plaintiffs, we have already received offers from Canadians willing to put themselves at risk. Thank you.
Please — more donations — and plaintiffs. We need both.
