MASSIVE jump in people who renounced US citizenship last quarter http://t.co/jDzLCCxN0y via @thesovereignman

While still embryonic, it’s difficult to ignore this trend– more and more people are starting to renounce their US citizenship.
After all, the number of people who renounced citizenship this past quarter is roughly the same as the number of people who renounced for the previous four quarters COMBINED.
This movement shouldn’t be that surprising for a species that began as nomadic hunter gatherers, or for a society that was founded by foreigner settlers in search of a better life.
Yet, in a rather anomalous twist, the emotional ties we have for our passports are incredibly strong.
This Simon Black post dovetails rather well with the James Dale Davidson discussion we have been having.
Of course the Homelanders will say: But there are numerically more people immigrating to the U.S. than renouncing. Maybe. But the percentage increase in those renouncing is far greater and is in a growth mode.
In 1968, Benjamin Braddock (of the The Graduate Fame) was advised to invest in plastics. Today, I would advise people to invest in expatriations. Remember the letter written by the Canadian businessman to his son.

Another mention of the expatriation listing for the last quarter.

“rebuild their infrastructure by repatriating taxes, then that’s basically a warning shot across our bow”
Agree, and as regards “virtual presence” I do not have to stretch my imagination very far to envision “privilege of use taxation” for US registered services – also the virtual ones – just imagine the consequences of even a small yearly “priviledge of use tax” on Facebook, Gmail etc. Media taxation is not unknown….
He is living in fantasy land. There aren’t enough fines on FBAR and fees on paperwork not filed or expat taxes in the WORLD to pay for that crumbling mess. Driven through Michigan or Ohio lately? The roads are horrible! The buildings and bridges are falling apart and that’s just two states! Also, his illusion that foreign citizens should pay for U.S. infrastructure is astounding hubris. Wow really! Canada’s oldest cities need some new water lines as the old ones still have lead and are from the first lay down of water infrastructure a long, long time ago. They stink and are dangerous.Maybe Syracuse wants to be fined and fee’d to help pay for us here in Kingston. We’ve got a TON of old historical sites that we need help with! The very IDEA that this is okay to ask someone else to pay for YOUR countries infrastructure or anything else is just mind boggling.
@AtticusinCanada
I’ve driven through Michigan lately. The roads and bridges are completely atrocious.
Just think. If the money for those ridiculous wars, and for that bank bailout, was actually used on their infrastructure instead? Perhaps people might actually have jobs, and businesses would be more inclined to invest. But what do I know?
@mjh
With the respect Rand Paul was shown on the Daily Show last night, I believe he will be a serious contender for the next R nomination. The US will probably be in such a mess by then that his message of no more wars and abolish the IRS will resonate among more voters.
@mjh, all the money that was created by the Federal Reserve or borrowed from the chinese being used for infra-structure instead of wars? What would be the point of that. If you are going to debase a currency, it has to be for a good reason, not just to make roads, but to carry out wars.
@Petros
Strangely, I never would’ve thought that there would be any good reason to debase a currency in the first place.
@Bubblebustin
Perhaps, but would he even be allowed to have a voice in the debate? Look at what the ‘free media’ did to Ron Paul.
Greta Van Susteren on FOX News has noted briefly that renunciations have increased in an interview with Donald Trump.

Perhaps some folk renouncing or having renounced should talk to Van Susteren to help her understand the issues.
There’s a lovely poll today on the Money page of that “pinnacle of journalism”, msn.com.
http://money.msn.com/
Would you renounce your U.S. citizenship to avoid paying taxes?
I would bet that most of the respondents/Homelanders have absolutely no clue about the plight of U.S. expats and U.S. immigrants/greencard holders who are chosing to give up their US citizenship as a means of financial damage control for themselves and their families.
@Tax Trauma
Thanks for this. What’s interesting is the questions that are asked:
It’s clear that this poll is aimed at “Homelanders”.
How about this poll at:

Somewhat different results.
Given that Tina Turner has recently renounced her US Citizenship, was it not interesting that Opera went to Tina Turner’s wedding in Switzerland just recently? I wonder whether Ms Turner or her new husband filled Oprah’s ears with the effects of FATCA? I wonder whether Oprah will take up the cause when Back Is The USSA. Can she be nudged?
Contact her.
Donald Trump is another clueless homelander who believes that Americans are fleeing the homeland to renounce US citizenship. If Americans were inclined to do that and if it was that easy, the renunciation numbers would be in the 10’s of thousands, not mere thousands!
Greta, is there really such a word as “renunciating”?
