So join with me in the singing of the commemorative song, and toast with me to all that is is possible in a group effort! We are fighting our War of 2012, FATCA.
I really don’t see why the British Embassy should have to apologize. And if the US keeps going down this route of extraterritorial taxation of its citizens; we might consider burning the White House down…AGAIN!
The problem with a renewed effort to burn the White House is that we don’t have the weaponry nor the will to be able to accomplish such a feat. It would be interpreted as an act of terrorism and retaliation would be swift and disproportionate. We can however sue, and that is what we are doing.
However, the video was kind of fun, and the date is something to remember and to rally over. But I seriously doubt that if the Yanks invaded Canada again that we’d be able to repulse them as far as Niagara, much less DC. We have become a weak country. Isaac Brock really is dead. But still, nothing prevents us from dreaming of the glory days.
Question about Burger Kings defection to Canada. How many US execs in the US and Canada are going to be fired now that it’s going to be too much trouble and paperwork to get them compliant?
Chears big ears, what does Burger King have to do with the burning of the White House. I saw that they saved a portrait of George Washington was saved at the last minute from the White House, by cutting it out of the frame. What about merging White Spot with Burger King?
Let’s spread press releases that Burger King, now a Canadian company, will be firing all US citizen executives resident in Canada because of the risk they are now bringing to the company. If we want attention then this is totally the way to do it. ACDS should be working overtime doing press releases designed to expose what FATCA will do to this deal and make sure that those Canadians against the merger make as much of this as they can. The title should read:
“BURGER KING WILL NOW FIRE ALL U.S. CITIZEN EXECUTIVES IN CANADA DUE TO NEW FATCA TAX LAW”
and
TIM HORTONS WILL NOT HIRE US CITIZEN EXECS IN CANADA
My God people, why are we missing this GOLDEN opportunity. This merger is a game changer and we need to take advantage of this
@kermitzii, well I’m waiting for someone to create a Burger king thread. I’m sorry if you don’t understand how a US company becoming a Canadian company will get all US execs and possibly other “duals” tossed out of the company. Most large companies around the world have been firing their US citizens because they can’t have signing authority like other officers of the company can. You didn’t know this?
This post gave me a smile. Thanks, Petros. 🙂
PS: I also caught the Twitter kerfluffle last night and wondered why on earth an apology from the British Embassy would be required. It is historic fact.
I wonder if setting the White House on fire would be considered an expatriating act?
(Note to NSA/CIA/FBI: Just kidding, of course! I’ve already renounced anyway.)
It really did happen yesterday, 200 years ago. See this: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2014/08/british-embassy-celebrates-burning-the-white-house-200-years-ago-apologizes/
