CNN: Path to citizenship should be a long hike
This article is about immigration and the path to citizenship. There are a lot of comments. I think we should SWAT the comments with information about issues new US citizens can face with their accounts and investments back in their country of origin (FATCA, FBAR).
Since Timothy Geithner is, as usual, breaking the law with regards to his obligation to publish the names of all persons losing U.S. citizenship within the meaning of Section 877(a) or 877A by 30 days after the end of the quarter, friends of Isaac Brock who are interested in the number of U.S. Persons abroad cutting off the Homeland’s yoke have to look to other sources of data.
As I discovered recently, the U.S.’ Federal Bureau of Investigation publishes a periodic report entitled “Active Records in the NICS Index”. It breaks down the numbers of different types of records in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (“NICS”) on persons who are disallowed from purchasing firearms under the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993. One of the types of records: persons who renounced (but not relinquished) U.S. citizenship.

If anyone had any thought that China would go along with FATCA, forget it.

Is a citizen the property of the government or is the citizen a member in a voluntary member of a community?
The 14th amendment of the U.S. constitution was enacted for the purpose of ensuring that former slaves had equal citizenship, the U.S. Should that same 14th amendment be interpreted to create permanent slavery?
“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

Joining Dennis Ross (R-FL) and his recycled plan to raise taxes and pile paperwork on U.S. Persons abroad to pay for tax cuts for Homeland corporations, the Congressional Progressive Caucus has reintroduced their own plan from last year to raise taxes and pile paperwork on U.S. Persons abroad to pay for services for Homelanders that we can’t use. The Government Printing Office doesn’t have the full text of their bill yet (they didn’t even manage to get today’s edition of the Federal Register up on time), but the Washington Post has a copy of their press release.
Apparently, harassing and vilifying emigrants while posturing that you’re standing up to Big Oil is what passes for “progressivism” in the United States these days.
