Here is a question:  Do Canadians have the Fourth of July?  Yes, but they don’t celebrate it.

I just want to express my congratulations to the growing list of Brockers who have received their Certificates of Loss of Nationality.  For you, the Fourth of July is just another day of the month of July.

We are celebrating our Independence Day.  Not independence of the United States of America from the British, but independence for expat slaves from the United States of America.

Will Canada’s hard line on Eritrea’s ‘diaspora’ tax apply to the U.S.?

How nice to see Canada taking a very hard line with the government or Eritrea and its attempts to impose a diaspora tax on Eritrean citizens now living in Canada. This country really does have a backbone when it comes to standing up to oppression and injustice.

How to explain, then, that while we send the Eritrean consul packing and threaten to shut down the consulate, we let U.S. Ambassador David Jacobsen stay put in Ottawa with nary a word of protest over America’s “diaspora” tax?

This note concerns authors and editors of this blog.  Regular readers and those who only make comments may ignore this post.

Our web hosting service has put in an extra pre-screen for logging in to the blog (authors and editors).  It instructs that one must use the username and password on the pre-screen.  The user name was completely visible on my screen, but password was not:

password: web…”

I called our web hosting service and the technician informed me that the full password is:

webnames

Once you get enter the correct username and password, you will get to the regular author login for the blog and there you must use your own regular username and password.

This is  an additional security measure to prevent a botnet from accessing the login page.  They say that botnets will not read the message which is visible on screen regarding the username and password, and so this additional security feature prevents them from accessing the login page and infiltrating the website.

Born in Canada asked the following questions, and I offer my version of defiance afterward:

I have only just recently discovered the tax/FBAR obligations of being a USC abroad, and have spent the past few days reading as much as I can about the subject. I echo the feelings of extreme stress and frustration that so many people here have already expressed.

I was born in Canada in the 80′s to a USC (Cdn PR) parent (other was Cdn cit by birth). Fast forward to 2009, when in casual conversation with a US CBP officer into the states, I mentioned my American parentage. He stated that I was considered a US citizen, and should be entering the US on a US passport.

The ex-minister failed to declare 47,000 euros of assets in 2006, 33,000 in 2007 and 20,000 in 2008.

Also, he did not notify tax authorities that his wife Viki Stamati, also in custody, bought in 2009 the couple’s luxury home close to the Acropolis.

The court ordered that the property be seized. Judges also ruled that he cannot appeal his sentence.

This has scary parallels with FATCA and FBAR requirements.  The United States debt situation is Greece on steroids.  It is only a matter of time before the world rejects the US dollar as the intermediary of trade and the world’s reserve currency.  When that takes place, the value of the dollar will collapse violently and the US public will start rioting in the streets in Greek style.  Then, they will seek vengeance upon all those who failed to disclose financial accounts.  If you want to know where the US is going, Greece is a precursor.

I am currently doing maintenance on the blog: I have disabled some of the previous functionality by removing nearly all the plugins.  Hopefully this will solve the problems and I can rebuild the site with safer plugins.  Please be patient during the process.

The interruption of your regular programming here at the Isaac Brock Society was the result of web hosting problems or WordPress plugins.  The hosting service has informed me there may be some more intermittent problems in the next hour or so.
