We’ll be getting together for lunch Saturday, 18 November, at 2:00 pm at Montana’s BBQ Restaurant, 1750 Ogilvie Road, Ottawa. Plenty of free parking on site, also accessible by city bus.
We’re currently expecting 10 people — hope you can come, too! Please rsvp by posting a comment here or e-mail me at pacifica at isaacbrocksociety dot ca
Coming from Montréal? A Montréal Brocker would appreciate a ride. I can put you in touch by e-mail
Oh, I wish I could attend! I just live too far away. Damn!
I wish I could attend as well but live on the other side of the country. Maybe one day we’ll have a Western Canada get together.
Ditto. Would like to hear about it though 🙂
I should be able to make it. Be sure to send a reminder. Thanks
@ NorthernShrike,
Glad you can come. I’ll be sending a reminder e-mail about a week before.
@ MuzzledNoMore, PatCanadian and Bubblebustin’,
I wish you could come too! Maybe you could do a get-together out your way – wish I could come to that, but for me it’s too far in reverse. I think I recall you organised one a while ago, Bubblebustin’, would’ve liked to have been there.
@ All,
These lunches (or coffee klatsches or pub nights) are pretty easy to organise.
Basically pick a date, put a notice on the website (or an author or moderator can do so – a mod can also send e-mail invitations to Brockers we know of in your general area – I’d be happy to do that), and make the reservation.
Unlike a catered event, you don’t need exact numbers. We usually book our reservation about two weeks in advance, telling them the numbers aren’t firm yet, and most places ask us to confirm the numbers the day before. After confirming the day before, we’ve occasionally had a no-show or an extra person or two show up and no problems.
Yes, Pacifica, what I referred to as “Brockstock”. That’s when I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting Tiger (I believe), Victoria, tdott, Kermit, and of course our beloved Arrow, now no longer with us in this fight. His contributions, like all others will live on in our hearts and as testament to these injustices. It was a lovely sunny day and we sat outdoors at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
I pray it’s all over soon. In the meantime, SURGITE!
Hi, I plan to be there tomorrow. I look forward to seeing the rest of you. Andrew
Weatherman is calling for freezing rain this afternoon. This means I will probably be forced to cancel. I don’t want to get stranded across the city from where I live. In the meantime, I will monitor weather reports.
Let me add that I find this extremely frustrating, as I have never been able to get together with the Ottawa people. There are lots of questions I would like to ask, and experiences to share. Is there any thought to a rain check…maybe next weekend?
@ Northern Shrike,
It’s pretty late to cancel and notify people, so we’ll stick with this. Next weekend looks dicey too, with a prediction of mixed snow/rain again.
So we’re on for today. But we can meet for lunch again in a couple of months – perhaps in the west end (as so far we’ve done central and east). I’ll be in touch.
OK. What will be will be. Freezing rain has started here and I will be staying home. Sorry.
Thanks Pacifica777 for organizing today’s lunch. It’s always a good experience meeting other Brockers.
Good to see you again, Proud Canandian!
We were 6 today (had some cancellations unfortunately due to freezing rain with our first winter storm of the season) and we had a great time, conversation ranging from our personal situations in this matter to legal and political actions being taken (what we can and are doing) to just general everyday conversation.
Thanks to all who came and special thanks to T, our co-organiser!
Hi, I live in Ottawa and saw this too late. Please let me know if you do another!
Thank you,
Jan
@ Jan,
Sorry you missed it, but I think we’ll have another one in a couple of months. As well as posting it here, I’ll add you to the Ottawa event invitation list.
