UPDATE: September 23, 2015, p.m.
From Lynne:
It looks like when Murray Rankin’s Assistant said “We sent…” , she was referring to Nathan Cullen’s letter.
This afternoon, she sent me the following e-mail attaching the Cullen letter.
Hello Lynne,
I trust you have seen this by now. Please find attached Mr. Cullen’s letter to ministers urgently asking for a delay in transferring information.
Regards,
Maura Parte
Please refer to Nathan Cullen’s letter, as posted here: http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2015/09/23/letter-from-nathan-cullen-canadian-ndp-finance-critic-to-canadas-minister-of-national-revenue-and-the-finance-minister-requesting-delay-in-fatca-turnover/

AS REPORTED EARLIER TODAY:
Building on Elizabeth May’s letter to the government that Stephen Kish advised about yesterday:
Lynne Swanson reports this morning — thanks, Blaze:
After I contacted the NDP National campaign and Murray Rankin’s office yesterday, I received this reply sent from Murray Rankin’s Assistant at 10:57 last night:
Hello Lynne,
We have sent an urgent letter to the minister. I can provide you with more detail tomorrow.
MauraI will post any updates when I receive them. I am working on Scott Brison and the Libs.
We’ll stay tuned here and at MapleSandbox for more from Blaze.
(..and I hope the NDP Party Leader, Thomas Mulcair, and other Party candidates will weigh in on the important action of the NDP Deputy Critic for National Revenue for *US-deemed US Persons in Canada*.
Both Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcair as of this morning have made clear that they will not be supporting a future Harper government under any circumstances. There is perhaps a slight bit of wiggle room in Trudeau’s statement that he might support a Conservative government without Stephen Harper although I don’t really think there is much if any chance of that happening.

There is also some discussion about how Harper may not call Parliament back for months after the election to try to starve off a no confidence vote. However, in such case Harper would still only be “caretaker” Prime Minister.
Now that’s fabulous. I just let my Lib candidate know, and suggested Mr Trudeau get off the Grouse Grind and do the same. If I let my bitterness (aka motivation) guide me, I would have said something about it being in his blood, but decided against it.
It’s a tight race in Victoria. As much as I appreciate the Green Party’s stand on FATCA, I would hate to see Murray Rankin lose his seat in parliament. He’s a good man and has been one of our best representatives in parliament regarding the FATCA issue. This isn’t my riding but if it were,
my vote would be for Murray Rankin — tried and true.

Stephen Harper and Co. sure can’t say they weren’t told about the availability of a delay. Many thanks to Elizabeth May, Murray Rankin and Nathan Cullen for sending these very much appreciated letters.
I so hope that Murray Rankin will retain his seat in Parliament as well, EmBee. What a fighter in Parliament he and Nathan Cullen were for us.
That would be a great loss for justice in Canada. A difficult choice in that the Greens have led the way in making the IGA that implemented FATCA an issue in their Policy. It’s not too late for the NDP to do the same.
What will the Liberal Party Leader / candidates do besides saying but not really defining *A Canadian is A Canadian is a Canadian* — will those Canadians only be those who do not bank at their local CANADIAN *foreign financial institutions*?
More important discussion you announce, Tim. The man is a pariah and has no real concern for the people of this country. Caretaker, my backside.
It looks like when Murray Rankin’s Assistant said “We sent…” , she was referring to Nathan Cullen’s letter.
This afternoon, she sent me the following e-mail attaching the Cullen letter.
This cannot be a political issue. Every Government representative us to understand and follow the law regarding the Canadian Charter. http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/const/page-15.html
If the information is turned over and it damages Canadian citizens, government representatives need to know they can be held accountable perhaps with some sort of class-action lawsuit or individual claims for breaching the law !
@Embee, and @calgary411, re wishes for the re-election of MP Rankin in Victoria;
I’ll never forget witnessing Murray Rankin attending and actively listening to the concerns of the Canadian citizens and residents in attendance in the audience during a large portion of the day he spent at the May 2, 2014 ACA-Sponsored Toronto Forum/Debate on Citizenship-Based Taxation vs. Residence-Based Taxation. I can attest to it as I was there, and saw and heard him at first hand invite people to speak with him about US CBT, FATCA, FBAR, etc.
I also feel I owe the Green Party via MP Elizabeth May a debt of gratitude for her steadfastness on FATCA – acquiring via FOI, and publishing the letter from Peter Hogg, posting the FATCA info page on the Green Party website, her able questioning of then Finance Minister Flaherty.
I don’t live in BC, and my riding is steadfastly Conservative, so likely my vote won’t tip anything over to unseat the Con incumbent – so my choice is probably easier to decide.
I would especially like to thank the Green Party and NDP for restoring my faith in the Canadian government after our (hopefully) outgoing prime minister gave it such a beating. That to me has made this effort extremely worthwhile. I won’t comment on the Liberals at this point, but they’re looking less and less like the party to lead this nation.
