From Tim:
I think it will be the Senate National Finance Committee instead. Luckily that committee doesnβt look it is moving as fast on Bill C-31 as the Banking Committee so we have some more time. Additionally the chairman of the National Finance Committee is NOT a Conservative so that might be to our advantage.
********You may send your submission in either Official Language to the Clerk of the Committee.
Mine’s almost set to go. I’ll e-mail it to Barbara Reynold’s address with a cc to the “banc” address and put my submission in both the body of the e-mail AND in a pdf attachment. That should cover all the bases. I am mentioning our Charter Challenge which I wasn’t able to do in my Fin. Can. submission and again including the hardships of FATCA on retirees and those nearing retirement. Of course everyone’s financial PRIVACY is PARAMOUNT. I’m sure the good Senators have read all 359 pages of Bill C-31 so my 4 pages should be doable for them.
Em
Hold up on sending anything. It looks like this committee is NOT dealing with the FATCA relevant parts of the bill.
Sorry it looks like this is wrong committee(Thanks Allison). Awaiting further confirmation as to what is the “right” committee.
Tim
Okay … am holding.
Sorry folks. My screwup but I think this committee is not the right place to send it. I got the part of the Bill that deals with FATCA mixed up between Part 3 and Part 5. I probably won’t find out for sure where to send this until tomorrow.

@ Tim
Amazing that a committee about banking is not considering the FATCA portion of C-31 since FATCA is all about new rules for banking. We’ll stay tuned.
Oh goody, another chance to be ignored.
@ bubblebustin
Yes, but a whole new set of ears to turn away from our voices. How can you resist? π
I don’t suppose we should ever give up, should we Em.
I’m very glad the subject of writing to the Senate (Canadian) has come up. I have had letters to “my” senators ready to go for some time. Voting C-31 down would give that body a chance to redeem itself and do something constructive for the country. (And dare I suggest it would warrant some headlines?!!)
Writing to a Senate Committee specially designated to study the issue is another good opportunity. I look forward to hearing about the correct place to direct such a letter. Yes, the Senate may turn it’s back on us as well but we can’t give up.
To Bubblebustin:
I don’t remember for sure but I think it was you who posted that marvelous quote of Winston Churchill: “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never – in nothing, great or small, large or petty, – never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.” I have the whole quote on a “post it” stuck on my computer. I’ve read it every day since you shared it with us some months ago. Thank you!
It’s also good to know that the Senate vote on the Omnibus bill is obviously not going to occur for some weeks yet. We have time to arm our pens yet again.
Thank you so much for the reminder, Muzzlednomore π
@ MuzzledNoMore thank you for the churchill quote reference.
i was feeling down this morning in part because of this FATCA drama that has entered our lives in addition to other bad news i have been dealing with over the last week or so.
i decided to google churchill quotes for some inspiration and found this gem
You can always count on Americans to do the right thing – after they’ve tried everything else.
Winston Churchill
seems very apropriate for here….in additon his quotes gave me some motivation to soldier on with my other issues
thank you

Thank you, Ann and Tim.
My submission has just been sent by email.
Thank you for the address, Ann.
And mettleman, I’m glad the Churchill reference was timely for you. Again, thanks go to bubblebustin for sharing that with us originally.
Thanks for the new e-mail address, Ann. The extra time gave me a chance to increase the length of my submission. I’m sending it today before it gets any longer.
HELP! The senate committee is meeting right now and IF there is a live podcast I can’t get it to play. Any suggestions? I’ve tried 3 different browsers. There’s less than 100 minutes of meeting left to go.

I can’t seem to get it to work either. Don’t worry it will be archived.
Thanks Tim. In the help section it says they use “Windows Media Player” and we have a Mac which should handle that but maybe we need to update something. I’ll get my savvy of such things husband to investigate.
I have Windows Media Player and it isn’t working for me either right now
Am watching it now on Windows Media Player (Eng. Video – 500kps). They are talking about unrelated Income Tax Act amendments. is anyone else listening? If so, have they dealt with Part V of Bill C31 yet? For those who haven’t yet tuned in – this is a hearing with one of the Dept of Finance guys answering technical questions of the Senators.
They are JUST STARTING NOW (for 15 mins) and will start again tomorrow at 1:45pm. Tune in if you can. Part V
Got it Ann, thank you. I hadn’t tried the 500kps selection. Only 15 minutes left unfortunately. However this is luckily the Part V coming up which is the FATCA part. I e-mailed the clerk, Jodi Turner, to ask about a transcript of the meeting.
Ok
I think we’ve flooded it! I’m frozen out.
