This session comes with the “No one But Someone Who Is Going Through This Can Really Understand” element. John Richardson, like us who need information and SUPPORT, is a US Person in Canada.
A lot of grass-roots volunteerism by generous persons committed to this goes into these sessions. We don’t offer polish; we do offer information and support to help you come to the right decision for you and your family.
(John will be leaving for the airport right after the session as he will present at the Edmonton Information Session, Sunday, April 20, 2014, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)
I hope to meet MANY Calgary and Southern Alberta persons on April 19th — this is your Alberta opportunity to attend ours in the series of Canadian and European information sessions.
Invite this MP Rempel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelle_Rempel , who is busy tweeting the disingenuous nonsense that the Conservatives did those affected in Canada a kind and thoughtful favour with the FATCA IGA:

FATCA is US legislation. Our gov’t negotiated significant exemptions/relief for those affected in Canada. Provisions included in C31.

Certain provisions for the FATCA relief / exemption agreet that our govt negotiated are seen in C31. Without this, FATCA imposed as is Jul 1

For more (accurate) info re: the agreement we reached with the US re their imposition of FATCA, see http://www.fin.gc.ca/n14/14-018-eng.asp … #C31
Michelle Rempel @MichelleRempel 25m
C31 provides exemptions for reporting on RRSPs, RRIPs, RDSPs, TFSAs, and others. #fatca
Michelle Rempel @MichelleRempel 28m
(2/) asked an #NDP member re: why their non-support for the exemptions and relief from FATCA contained in C31. No response.
Michelle Rempel @MichelleRempel 29m
C31 contains provisions for agreet. re FATCA. Given that FATCA would be unilaterally imposed on CDA on July 1, 2014 (1/)..
Rempel – another MP who won’t take the principled road and Stand on Guard for Canada and Canadians that she was sworn to serve and protect.
She’s invited (Michelle Rempel is my MP). GwEvil has sent out invitations to all Calgary (all Conservatives) and Edmonton MPs. I also sent a separate invitation and other info to Diane Ablonczy and Michelle Rempel.
They will have to better explain to me “exemptions for reporting” on Canadian registered accounts — and just how that affects US Persons in Canada. Really, are we missing something here? I can’t understand why they can’t see that the only protection is for the banks, none for the individuals — unless they are encouraging what is known as ‘tax evasion’. Seems to me???
They probably don’t understand the difference between an exemption from reporting under FATCA. as apposed to non exemption from reporting on a 1040.
Thanks, Duke. Perhaps one big bag of nails, dumber than.

It was a busy afternoon at Calgary Kensington Canadian Legion — successful in the number of people who turned out and the information they went away with and now have to digest in making decisions for themselves and their families about their possible US citizenship. John Richardson’s main message was: first, determine that you ARE a US citizen and work from that point. Don’t rush it; don’t just react; take a whole lot into consideration, when events happened, etc., before determining your decisions regarding US citizenship-based taxation issues.
Approximately 70 – 80 people attended on a beautiful Easter weekend Saturday — sunshine for Calgary after a Good Friday of all day snow. Thanks to all who came out! And, thanks to John Richardson for coming to Calgary for today’s session — at least 3-1/2 hours of non-stop information, then one-on-one questions at the end. I hope you made your plane, John!! Best for tomorrow’s early morning Edmonton session — with the help of GwEvil.
@calgary411
So glad it all went well!
I just wanted to extend a big thank you to @calgary411 and John Richardson for a great presentation in Calgary on Saturday. Although I have researched this thing to death and had essentially already made my decision about what to do, John said a few things that really confirmed to me that I am on the right track and this gave me a boost of much-needed confidence. My spouse and I drove 2 hours to attend and it was well worth the trip. Thanks again!
