FATCA isn’t even being enforced, and yet American Semites are already being reported as getting kicked out of American banks left and right. At the going rate, this is going to become one heck of a lot worse once reciprocity starts to require American banks to export the financial data of Semites based on their national origin, and it certainly won’t be limited to Israel. Unfortunately, American Semites won’t be able to protect themselves with banking secrecy this time.
Arab Americans have been increasingly targeted with account closures… “This is just not an isolated problem. We believe it is happening to hundreds if not thousands of Arab Americans,” Ayad said.
I called the Arab-American Civil Rights League (1-313-633-0890) to ask if they had heard anything about FATCA and the bank account issues it has been causing for Americans living abroad. Yet, sadly, they hadn’t heard anything about it and so tried my best to introduce the topic.
I am always amazed when you say FATCA and get blank stares back!
Well, today is the Persian New Year. What better way to celebrate than to screw some Americans with black hair.
Not surprised, as there’s nothing going for the Southeast Michigan area but a whole lot of stupid. I ought to know. I used to live in that area myself, and I really, really hated it. Thankfully, I was out of there in less than a year.
Too bad most of my family lives there, though.
As I understand it, the largest Arab American community is located between Dearborn MI and just north of Toledo OH (Perrysburg). There is a beautiful mosque right off I-75; sitting right in Ohio farmland. I first saw it driving late at night and it was simply stunning. Had no idea at the time of the large community there.
This is appalling. I tried to find out what the “Bank Security Act” of 2001 was. Do they mean the Patriot Act? Or is this another abomination of the BSA, 1970?
p.s. Perrysburg is just South of Toledo. Michigan is just North of Toledo.
The area BETWEEN Toledo and Detroit (45 miles) is Agricultural, industrial, or residential. That area is not known for being Muslim–only Dearborn itself is known for that. The Town next west to Dearborn is “Lily White” Livonia.
Other than the mosque, the Muslim population in Toledo was not so visible in Toledo. Jamie Farr is Lebanese, but not sure if he is a practicing Muslim or something else. Toledo has working class neighborhoods which are Hungarian (Tony Packos of Mash Fame), Polish, German. Lots of catholics and catholic schools. Detroit has the same background, with the addition of Belgians, Malta, Mexican, other areas.
The Toledo Mosque was built way Before 9/11. I don’t remember there being so much resistance to it other than its overwhelmingness, which is a trait of religious centers. There is also a large Jewish presence in the Toledo area, and there were not issues regarding Jewish/Muslim interaction.
Prior to 9-11, the Arabs in Dearborn were known for being quite ambitious, mostly shop owners. The prejudice versus Muslims was not the strongest of prejudices in Detroit.
The Detroit metro area has much larger problems to worry about. Dearborn became a much stronger city than Detroit itself.
In Scandinavia, a black haired person needs to change his name to “Andersson” in order to get someone to read his cv or to answer his Query for an apartment. This has however improved as Zlatan (soccer star) arrived and it has become cool in that generation.
When I mean ‘stupid’, I mean a whole lot of animosity towards others in the area over really dumb reasons like race or ethnicity, faith, etc…. fear…. Of course you also have Detroit itself, which thanks to blatant mis-management and corruption, practically wrote the book on ‘stupid’.
Racism is rampant on all sides, and with the way the white people there talk about Dearborn in this post 9/11 world, you’d think the (insert epithet here) were taking over America! Yeah. E Pluribus Unum my browneye!
And don’t even get me started on the high levels of crime.
The most surprising about this story is US banks engaging in discrimination. They’re not afraid of lawsuits, which is odd. In the land of lawsuits, I would not have expected this to happen.
Why would they be afraid of lawsuits? If they’re too big to fail, and are too big to prosecute, why would they need to worry about being sued?
This may lead to a class action lawsuit because of the high volume of complaints:
ACRL: a great organization. I wonder how they acquired funding. Why can’t we get an organization together to support ourselves powerfully?
