Thought we needed another catchy headline that would be automatically tweeted LOL
This from Center of Freedom and Prosperity by Andrew Quinlan
As the rest of the world is forced to deal with imperialist US tax policy, Americans and the US economy are continuing to suffer the consequences. We’ve already written about how FATCA is causing Americans being dropped from banks in Switzerland, Taiwanese banks reducing their American holdings, and even how some are fighting back. Now we’ve received reports that Thai banks are limiting services to US persons, which the news has confirmed:
*From today’s news:
Is it only the rich who are renouncing in Taiwan?
Thanks SwissPinoy…
I have visited the local newspaper here also, and sent emails to the others, about what great things are going to happen to their Citizens who are Children of US parents. Zero response.
Europé is mostly interested in pregnant princesses.
FATCA is a law only a communist could dream up.
Matt Damon: On Americans Abroad
Jason Bourne has no clue about the nightmare Americans abroad are up against. He needs to be educated.
Here is an interesting post in a Taiwanese forum:
Renunciation of US Citizenship

@John Brown
Thanks for the Matt Damon clip, John. Another Hollywood Kool-Aid drinker is confident that he’s got it all figured out. What a maroon. Here’s the comment I just left on the YouTube page:
Matt Damon clearly has absolutely no clue about what is happening to Americans overseas and how they are being turned into financial pariahs by the immoral citizenship-based taxation policies of their very own government. FATCA (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act) is a gigantic, slow-moving train wreck that will result in only American soldiers and diplomatic personnel ever being able to survive life overseas. Damon’s NGO buddies will be fish fertilizer when the IRS gets through with them.
The Matt Damon clip made me almost physically sick.
Boy is that guy a DUFUS MAXIMUS.
I remember one of his Bourne films gave a false impression of how so-called “numbered Swiss accounts” supposedly worked. I have never seen or heard of such an account, let alone the way he supposedly tried to access one. This sort of crap in films is just as misleading to the American people as Rambo and Schwartzie films were (one sees the hero with an M-16 and what looks like a 30-round clip, hundreds of rounds are fired and you never see the hero change the clip). Stupid depictions of life abroad are just as dangerous for us as stupid inaccurate action films that glorify violence and cause massacres like the one in Arizona, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech or otherwise. When will the media and Hollywood present a serious and accurate depiction of how things really are?
Deckard,
That was a good idea to put the comment below the Matt Damon youtube clip. Every article or youtube clip out there romanticizing America’s ex-pats deserves an explanation about what it is really like for Americans trying to earn a living abroad.
*Jefferson D Tomas asks
Serious depictions are out there, but they are rare and you have to look for them. For instance, see the movie “Why We Fight”, by Eugene Jarecki, and the documentary and book “The Untold History of the United States”, by Oliver Stone and Peter Kuznick.
The problem is that, like Matt Damon, most US homelanders want to believe the myth that US media generally portray:
That the US has been given by God, or has managed to create by the exceptional genius of its people, the greatest civilization ever and is unselfishly trying to pass that gift on to the rest of the world.
It makes them feel so good and virtuous. So don’t expect the US mass media to stop supporting that myth any time soon.
So let me get this straight. According to his self-appointed holiness, Matt Damon, the only reason Americans go “abroad” is to essentially be missionaries spreading the Declaration of Independence while we are doing “good works”.
Living our lives is not okay? Marrying, rooting, raising kids? Studying, working (unless it is for the UN or the USG)?
In end we must spread the good word of democracy, USA style, and then come back to the mothership?
Damon is moron. I am a person not walking advertisement for the American way.
@a I have a great interest in American history and in the contribution that the US has made to the cause of democracy. But the US does not have all of the answers, it never did, and is corrupt now.
