Check it out – Canada has determined that many US nationals are going to try and attempt to move illegally to Canada after the US election. One Canadian police officer joked that there weren’t enough places for 47% of the US in Canada, but has Canada also possibly considered this decision based on financial consequences of allowing so many bound by citizenship-based taxation to migrate? Closing the flood gates before the FATCA deadline perhaps?

*punktlich11, the following is misleading:
Jews were actually chased out of Europe by Christians, not by Muslims. Christians were chased out of Palestine mostly by Jews and Christian Guilt Complex members, not so much by Muslims. Muslims were chased out of Israel by Jews, not by Muslims. Jewish terrorist activities in Egypt, Iraq and other places helped to pressure Jews to migrate to Israel, as desired by Zionism. Iran happens to be one of the last places where Zionists have not yet succeeded in causing Jews to move to Israel, but it currently seems to be the main target of Zionist activism.
Each and every one of the governments is in the OECD discussing which laws (discrimination and personal privacy rights) need to be changed in order to implement FATCA. While one group of people are hiding in their parliaments and voting through their domestic law revisions, another group are at the International Law forums based in Wash DC, in order to map out new International Laws which can wipe out personal protections.
The best way to not only protect yourself but also to profit off of this, is to withdraw all of your savings and invest it in mattress companies. Because everyone including yourself needs a bigger mattress to stuff their life savings into.
*@SwissPinoy:
I did not comment on Europe. I am thinking of the demographic changes in the Middle East, not especially of Jews (whom you seem to have in your sights), although it is clear that they have left all of the Middle East except Israel and Iran. That particular Jews have illegally occupied parts of the West Bank is not germane; my supposition is that they will be made to leave in the fullness of time.
I had to be amused when Helen Thomas, whom I adored, came a cropper by suggesting that Iraqi and Egyptian (etc.) Jews in Israel should “go back home to Poland”. Tragic movements of entire peoples without regard to their rights or the rights of those they displace have been a fact of history, and a tragedy well documented after the Second World War. Smyrna, Constantinople: two great cities of Greek learning, gone. 1½ million Armenians murdered.
My immediate source for the data on the departure of Christians (a subject of more concern to me) from the Middle East, including Palestine, is Robert Fisk, no friend either to Israel or the United States but probably the best war reporter of our age. I don’t have recent cites on my hard drive but it’s not a new phenomenon. See: Robert Fisk, “Exodus: Christians of the Arab world flee their Biblical
homeland”, Independent (London), 24
Sept. 1997, p. 11; Christianity Today, Oct. 1994.
But this is outside the scope of this forum and I won’t belabour the issues further here. As a student of tax and personal status Ottoman law is fascinating. But the West had consular courts and their own laws followed them: wouldn’t it be nice if US expats still had such rights and powers!
*punktlich11, I don’t have anyone “in my sights” other than the US government (at least for now). I’ve just been reading thousands of articles on the middle east since 2001 since I wanted to understand 9/11. As far as I’m concerned, Christians, Jews and Muslims are innocent and guilty, being human beings of equal ability. The key word stated by Robert Fisk is: “But things are changing”. This could be seen similar to the situation with US citizens abroad. Things are changing and there will be fewer Americans living abroad. One could blame banks due to the most visible problem, but a deeper look into the matter shows a different picture.
