@Just me, thanks for finding this. I hadn’t expected that they would make a special post out of it. I’d given up on them actually publishing the comment because it didn’t seem to make it out of their spam filter.
As I’ve mentioned in the past, I work with another dozen or so Canadian’s with dual US citizenship. All are long time residence and holders of Canadian citizenship. Several have Canadian birth places. Only one has taken the time to do anything about their situation with the IRS. Not including me. The others have put their heads down and hope that somehow they’ll ride out the storm. These are not wealthy people jumping ship on the US. They are long time residence of Canada married to Canadians, educated in Canada with their earnings in Canada. Like all of these folks, I’ve committed myself to making Canada a better place.
@itacaf,
That is my reading on all this. I think so many either don’t know or are not going to do anything at this point. It is a very sad commentary that good citizens with the accidental label of ‘US person’ by whatever means, people who contribute so much to Canada or any other country, are singled out and persecuted by the US.
*Alien residents in the USA from my country of origin don´t believe this is happening to them and I can tell they si far show no signs of complying to the demands of the IRS. Why? Because they don´t trust the IRS and they are not wealthy to be able to afford paying the stiff penalties they IRS is going to charge them for not knowing about these requirements, By the way they were not informed of them when they received their Green Card Welcome Package. So this became a trap.
