Even this may prove unhelpful to the US since Carl Levin is hell bent on destroying the US economy.
Flaherty hikes border shopping limits
Clear your credit card and prepare your shopping bags – you’ll soon be able to spend more while on short cross-border trips.
The federal government is increasing the amount travelling Canadians can dispense on goods without having to pay duties and taxes on them upon their return.
Oh great… This will crowd up the Bellis Fair Mall in Bellingham when I visit my mother in May. Lots more Canadian license plates taking the parking spaces and buying up those US dollarette’ denominated goods! Great for the local economy.
Flaherty does something else smart. Gets rid of the penny. I am thinking this guy would never survive in US politics! π

@JustMe
And we just got polymer bank notes like in NZ and Australia.
@JustMe: Flaherty’s too good for the U.S. In fact, this Conservative Canadian politician would be way too far to the left for even the Democrats.
I heard that. I kinda have a love hate relationship with them when it comes to folding them, and having them slip out of a pocket.
Getting rid of the penny makes too much sense, so it would be . anti-American to do something like that in the US. They can’t even deal with a dollar coin!

Dollar coins are done

@Just Me: Canadians love our loonies ($1 coins) and our toonies. ($2 coins). The loonie (named because it has a loon on the back) has been around for over 20 years and the toonie has been around for about 15. I’ve saved over $5000 in loonies and toonies in 15 years. Don’t tell the IRS. They’ll want a share.
I like the 1 and 2 dollar coins in NZ and Australia too, although Australia has the size backwards. The $2 is smaller then the $1. Just don’t understand why Americans don’t accept them.
