People Aren't Listening – Remember this Poll?

I was looking at usxcanada’s site and came across this:

In more than 4 out of 5 of 3233 responses (as of 14 Jan 2012) to a Globe and Mail online poll, individual U.S. citizens in Canada indicate either uncertainty or an intention to do nothing in the belief that they can remain undiscovered by U.S. authorities.  —  G&M Poll

  • I applied for the limited-time amnesty                                         9%    /279 votes
  • I am still working out a plan with a financial professional      10%  /329 votes
  • I am not sure what my options are                                              26%   /827 votes
  • Nothing, how will they find me?                                                  56%  /1798 votes

It is hard to believe this is as of last Saturday. There doesn’t seem to be an easy way to get this message across. I shudder to think that the worst is yet to come. Any thoughts about this?

How to "get back" at the IRS

I will never forget reading in late 2010 about the situation of the Canadian-Americans and many Americans living in Europe: to become compliant with the IRS and US Gov, they had to hand over large portions of their life savings to America, a country that provided them with zero benefits living in their host countries. I thought this “criminal” on the part of the IRS to sneak-in with such a thing. This has contributed to at least 60% of my decision to renounce because I want nothing to do with countries that engage in such under-handed behavior.

Why does citizenship really matter (other than creating a mechanism to be taxed)

Came across the following article today:

Thomas Mulcair defends dual citizenship: Quebec MP and NDP leadership hopeful holds Canadian and French citizenship

Former Canadian Prime Minister John Turner is  dual citizen. So too are Canadian politicians: Stephane Dion, Thomas Mulclair, David Alward, and (according to the Government of Canada site) Green Party Leader and MP Elizabeth May was born in the U.S. Why does citizenship matter in the first place? If so, why would anybody remain a citizen of a country that treats its citizens as property to be taxed. Can anybody afford the cost of U.S. citizenship?
