If those were the questions purpleflower was asked, then she should send a letter of compliant to the State department. The Embassy has no right to ask those questions. Perhaps she had a novice officer who ought to be corrected .
Renewal of UK passport.

Technicality, but if it’s not London, it’s a US consulate, not an embassy.
@RH
Embassy or Consulate the directives are the same.
@Heidi when I’ve previously renewed my uk passport I’ve always given my us passport when it asks about other passports held.
I’m wandering do I deal with the fact that I’m no longer dual when I renew my passport or do I report it as a change when I receive my cln?
As I wrote earlier, I renounced last year, and I renewed my UK passport just a few weeks ago. Nothing in the on line form asked about other citizenships, current or previous, so there was nothing to declare, so to speak. I sent off my old UK passport and received the new one a few weeks later.
@rh yes my query was re my renewal of my non us passport, as my renewal application has previously asked about other passports etc.
@birdperson thanks for that would info – when you previously renewed your uk passport before you renounced did you send in your us passport? thanks for your help.
@Heidi
Yes, minor terminology point for the sheer joy of pedantry. Even if you go to an embassy it’s consular services.
@purpleflower–no, I never sent in my US passport when renewing my UK. I don’t even think I sent it off when I applied for my first UK passport.
@BP
Certainly it wasn’t the case that the UK asked British citizens to send in their other passports for perusal when renewing their UK passport and it wasn’t there when I renewed 8 yrs ago, but something changed around 2014 (as noted in the link) in the ever growing quest for data gathering. I am surprised that you did not see the question as it was there when my spouse renewed this year.
At purpleflower flower, I wouldn’t worry about informing the UK about the loss of US citizenship, if they want to query it , they will ask. I think they already have more than they can handle with the registration of settled status of millions of EU citizens !
The business of the British government requiring all foreign passports before issuing a UK passport is rather shocking.
I would assume that any self-respecting UK citizen would respond to this absurd request by failing to disclose any non-UK citizenship they may or may not happen to hold.
@RH
Agreed, and that is what people I know in that situation have done. In fact the argument is that it is illegal to let them out of your possession as they are the property of the issuing country and not the holder.
@Heidi yes I renewed a few years ago and seen the question re non uk passports. thanks for your help.
*non uk passports that meant to say
Amsterdam renunciations? Has anyone heard anything or gotten an appointment from the embassy in the Netherlands? I submitted my application in late March. I followed up with them twice. A month later they said to just be patient. 3 months later I did the same and did not receive a reply. I understand that they have a staffing shortage, but it’s quite a long time…
@DJ,
I haven’t heard anything lately about Amsterdam. But two suggestions come to mind:
1. Try another embassy or consulate.
2. Since you’ve followed up twice and received no reply at all to your second follow-up, contact Dept of State’s American Citizens Services department, Europe Division, at DoS HQ in Washington. These Division offices have a good track record in expediting matters when consulates/embassies have not replied to repeated e-mails or otherwise dropped the ball. The Europe Division Chief is Rob Doughten at 202-485-6239. Sorry, we don’t have an e-mail address, the Dept of State’s directory only gives phone and snail-mail.
The State Dept directory is at this link and the American Citizens Services Division Offices are listed on page OD-18.
DJ We had the same problem in Vancouver.

Send a copy by e mail attachment to the Amsterdam Embassy contact address. You should hear back promptly. We were phoned the same day as the email arrived in Vancouver. (Our initial delay was caused by an e mail SNAFU. We had briefly considered Iceland and Sweden as alternatives during the delay period!)
DJ. Just curious. How did you ask for an appointment? I looked at the Netherlands procedure. It appears to be straightforward. Fill in the forms and send them as an e mail attachment to amsterdamusc@state.gov.
@DJ
If you are having problems getting an appointment at the Amsterdam Embassy, I suggest you try Luxembourg . It’s little known that there is an Embassy there and you can park for free right outside! Although a few years ago, a colleague of mine got an appointment there within two weeks. He said they were quick and efficient. It’s worth an email.
@Portland
Exactly as such. I uploaded all of the documents. They sent me the email where they talk about understanding my choice and the appointment process there. Afterwards I followed up with them a month later, as I mentioned in my previous post, and they told me to be patient.
I will be looking into the other options suggested here.
I have been asked to fill in form 4079 prior to my renunciation appt.
From what I see of the questions I am ineligible to sign it as I cannot answer no to ‘each of the questions above’ as it says at the end of the form. Whilst not specifying which questions they mean. All of the questions on the whole form? and also not eligible to sign the second part ‘statement of voluntary relinquishment’. as I am renouncing not voluntarily relinquishing and have not committed any act with the intention to relinquish.
I see in any case I am asked to sign it in front of a consular officer. So is it the case that I send it in unsigned – and then it is used for information purposes only ? I see another comment on here saying it is destroyed at the appt.- despite saying it will be used as part of the permanent record in my case.
Can anyone offer some insight on this?
So, have just read through the whole thread, and it seems the form is for information purposes only. I wish they had mentioned this, as it will take me some time to get the info to fill out the form correctly.
You leave part 1 unsigned because you answer yes to one or more of the relinquishing actions.
You will sign part 2 at the consulate before a vice consul to claim a prior Relinquishment.
