Admins — I’ve tried twice to post my letter to my MP. It must have gone to spam.
~ 7am AEST retweet will be requested.
@ Karen,
Found it and unspammed it. It shows up now, the last comment on the page before this one.
@ Pacifica – thanks
@ Karen– wow! Absolutely fantastic letter. Yet the more I see (& read) letters like these, the more I think we’re arguing over obvious over-reaches that aren’t even the point.
The point: “USA says, WE are making a LAW in OUR economically-ruined country which says, WE are the BOSS of YOU!”– and you better jump & toss ALL of your citizens & laws under the USA extortion bus, let US take YOUR monies, or else– sanctions!
It’s “LAWfare” as Assange put it.
@ Karen, You’re welcome. I just got a chance to read it now — it’s great! — saw the format had got messed up in the posting, so got that fixed now. Super letter!
Karen. So clear! So well written. Is there a chance to have it published as an op-Ed in a national paper. Or are national papers obsolete in Australia as they seem to be every where else?
@ Karen
Brilliant letter. I hope after your MP gives it a careful reading you will get a hearing with him/her. As our Duke says, this should be published to bring awareness to your fellow Australians. Can’t imagine they really want to see hard-earned Australian dollars converted to US dollars and sent streaming across the Pacific to bolster the American economy.
@Pacifica, thanks for fixing the formatting. Cut and paste from Word to HTML is a pain, and I never get it right the first time.
@Jane, yes, the real problem is that when the US says “jump”, the rest of the world says “how high?” But most governments don’t see it that way. If they did, we wouldn’t be in this mess. So, we need to point out the really obvious assaults on sovereignty and human rights to convince our governments that they are being bullied by the US.
@Duke of Devon – I’ll think about it. There are a couple of appropriate outlets, but I’m not sure I’m ready to sign my real name to a letter to the editor.
Thanks for the positive comments. We sent the letter about a week ago, and have an appointment scheduled with our MP for the end of this month. We have met with him before, and he is generally sympathetic. We aren’t his only constituents with this issue.

@ JC (or any other Tweetie)
Could you please correct the Democrats Abroad tweet at #fatca (Feb 21) which states that Bernie Sanders supports “Safe Country Safe Harbor” (yes that’s how they wrote it). It’s true he supports the Same Country Exemption proposal but he has also stated he would seriously consider replacing CBT with RBT which is far more significant.

@Karen Twitter bootcamp. “.” Was a good one: http://sproutsocial.com/insights/how-to-make-sure-everyone-sees-your-tweets/ I learned that today. I’ll consider from now on.
How about you making your own memes? I use Gimp – free software. I am a bit of a hacker yet may share some shortcuts.
@Embee In regards to DA only saying that Sanders supports SCE, while he said at the #GlobalTownHall “shift” to “Residence Based Taxation” [said that twice]. IMO, a ploy by establishment Democrats not to make their candidate Clinton look worse for expats than Sanders.
@ JC
I agree. Sanders’ position is better/stronger/fairer than Clinton’s on the expat tax problem but DA does not want to let him shine too bright and thereby cast a shadow on their party favourite. Wish DA would focus on people instead of party but their purpose is to elect Dems and not much more.
@Karen, everyone
Andrew Hastie Liberal MP for Canning WA wife was born in the USA and have a son who would probably be a US citizen.

@Karen Excellent Letter! Meeting with MP as well. Very impressive.
My Federal rep still asking for meeting
I apologise for the delay in following up our previous correspondence on this. Last year I forwarded your message below to the Treasurer and requested a formal response addressing your concerns and suggestions.
I just followed up with his office about getting a response back. They have a bit of a backlog (I’m sure you’ll appreciate the Treasurer gets an enormous amount of correspondence) but they’ve assured me they’ll be pushing your case to the top of the pile.
I’ll be sure to pass on the Treasurer’s response to you as soon as I’ve received it. In the meantime please feel free to keep me updated on how the campaign’s going. Many thanks for your advocacy on this
