Poor Dr. Nathan appears to have no idea. He should renounce ASAP and tellthe IRS to fuck off.
I wrote to him about our situation.
We’ll see.
Maybe ask those pollies why they signed this unilateral “agreement” with the USA ??? Why did they all yield and say “sure” for the USA? Is Australia a real country, OR a polly anna, wimp for the USA? A lap dog who yes, yes, yes, Mr Yes Man?
That’s the sour reality in all those “sovereign” “countries”–they ALL signed up and sold YOU out.
Sophie v’in Veld is/was SPOT ON.
It is certainly the time for any and all “sovereign” countries–IF they have a shred of respect, integrity, and decency to tell the USA to F-CK OFF. Tell the IRS to F-CK OFF. Who will stand up and do this? Which country/countries?? WHO?
Linda Denakamp,
Who will stand up? Maybe France … https://www.politico.eu/article/accidental-americans-emmanuel-macron-backs/

We are crowd-sourcing a list of US tax preparers who are willing to take the position that (at least some) superannuation is equivalent to Social Security (and exempt from US tax under article 18(2) of the treaty). I got this notice from “Gerry” in my email but when I click any of the links, I’m not taken to his post. What’s going on?
“Hello
I’ve tried to post this before but have not been successful. Hopefully this works.
I was an accidental American. I renounced my US citizenship about 2014 and now just have my Australian.
I was born in Australia to a US parent.
I never had a SSN. I never filed a US tax return.
I am now mid 40’s.
I am well off financially, income and wealth.
I have a family.
i live in terror and fear from the IRS.
I filed a 8854 form but did not file tax returns.
I would have if i could but my financial affairs were just way to complicated.
I never plan to go to the US.
I have some US shares.
I am Australian.
I dont know what i would do if they came after me.
I am a covered expatriate (i think the term is).
I would like help with understanding:
– how often does the IRS come after people like me? has anyone on here been contacted/chased/audited/etc?
– if they do – what is their authority to impose fines and costs and orders?
– will the Aus govt enforce it?
Any insights or real experiences would be immensely appreciated.
Thank you!!”
@ Jane,
Gerry’s comment is on FATCA and Australia – Part 2 of 2. Commenting should have been closed on this lengthy thread when Part 2 opened, so, shortly after Gerry’s comment was posted yesterday, it was moved to Part 2.
