Renunciation and Relinquishment: What are the differences? Is there a difference?
Cross-posted from Maple Sandbox
We often use separate terms for “renunciation” and “relinquishment” since there are some notable differences between renunciation and the other methods of terminating one’s US citizenship. However, renunciation is actually one of the 7 methods of relinquishment, as set out in Immigration and Nationality Act, s. 349(a). This post explains some of the similarities and differences.

Consulate Visit Reports, Organised by Location
People have posted and commented on their consulate visit experiences. This is very useful information, but has been difficult to access as it appears on various threads. So, I have assembled them into a Directory of Consulate Reports, organised by location. I expect to add more reviews over the next day or two as I continue to search past postings, and of course we’ll add new reviews as they arrive.
Keep ’em coming! You can write your consulate visit story on this thread or any other thread (we’ll keep an eye out for them) and we’ll transfer them to the Directory. Thanks to everybody for sharing your experiences! Continue reading
Ontario Legislature Proclaims October 13th General Isaac Brock Day
The Ontario Legislature this week passed a bill proclaiming October 13th as General Isaac Brock Day. The bill was sponsored by Steve Clark (Conservative), co-sponsored by Kim Craitor (Liberal) and Cindy Forster (NDP). Mr. Clark, former mayor of Brockville, represents the riding of Leeds-Grenville in the Ontario Legislature. Speaking of the successful defence against US invasion of our country, Mr. Clark points out that, “The Battle of Queenston Heights was really a pivotal battle because Canadian troops were outnumbered but Brock was able to lead them effectively.”
Further information is on the Ontario Legislature’s website at: http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/bills/bills_detail.do?locale=en&Intranet=&BillID=2578
