@Bubblebustin – has anyone advocated division and intolerance, or discrimination and bigotry? I haven’t seen any comments to that effect.
A couple of Canadian posters have mentioned that they sometimes feel the Canadian perspective gets lost, and wish there was a place just for Canadians. Personally, as I’ve said, I can understand that wish and to me it doesn’t seem at all unreasonable, provided it’s clearly stated. Petros, however, has reiterated the mission as stated in the banner, and no.one has disagreed.
I never thought of Isaac Brock the individual as particularly Canadian. To me, he represented someone willing to stand up to the US. Had a similar blog arose in India, it might have been called the Mahatma Gandhi Society.
PS, not that Gandhi stood up to the US (I know history), but to another nation’s rule.
@Walt – that’s a good point about Europe and Switzerland. Hadn’t thought of that but I think you may well be right.
@Iota, thanks for getting it. It’s very frustrating while trying to get your specific group’s perspective heard, to be dismissed with accusations of discrimination, bigotry, divisiveness, intolerance, not seeing the big picture, etc. And on that note, I am also out of here. Hopefully for good this time.
Cheerio BlackKat. Hope you find (or create?) a place that suits, and good luck continuing to stick it to the USG at every opportunity. 🙂
The fact that some staunchly oppose and undermine any efforts on the Brock site to promote the legal effort to return to a tax system based on residency. That’s clearly an effort to sideline participants who identify with being American, like me, for whom the real solution is a return to RBT.
I think it’s worth pointing out that many of us are dual American-Canadian citizens with families in the U.S.A. This election is important because there are so many things at stake, even if they don’t change FATCA. For one thing, when Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, her handling of the Middle East and Libya led to the refugee crisis and our country of Canada accepting thousands of Syrian refugees. Don’t you see that what happens in Washington D.C. affects us, too?
It is worth pointing out that the majority of Americans are unhappy with politicians and the political elite, which set the stage for outsiders like Donald Trump to attract voters. They are very concerned about the direction of the country.
As for media sources, I trust Julian Assange to be a person of integrity and to be a credible spokesman for wikileaks on any interview. I find a stark difference when watching Assange talk with an American reporter and when he’s with a European reporter. The American press puts Assange on the defensive as if he somehow not to be trusted even though he has a 100% track record of publishing truthful documents; instead they expect the public to continue to believe the candidate who so few people trust!
Remember, millions of of Democrats didn’t trust Hillary Clinton and tried to vote Bernie Sanders! Lots of these were Millennials. Yet the Democrat party has just sent them a message their votes don’t matter; their candidate is not chosen by a “democracy” but chosen by the Elite.
In contrast, Green Party Jill Stein, Libertarian Gary Johnson, and Republican Donald Trump are all legitimate candidates. Had the Democrat party allowed every Bernie Sanders voter to have a voice like they should have had, I wouldn’t be writing this post.
@Bubblebustin – I haven’t been aware of efforts to undermine the legal action against CBT. I think it would be great if America would switch to RBT although to be honest I’m not optimistic, and I think that if it ever happens it will be for tax policy reasons, not because of a court case.
I agree that there’s little sympathy and considerable hostility towards the idea of identifying as American. I haven’t noticed anyone trying to sideline anyone, or undermine the court case, just to get at Americans. Why don’t you challenge them directly?
I know that some oppose Same Country Exception, either because it wouldn’t help their particular case or because they’re afraid it would lessen the [nonexistent, in my view] chance of FATCA being repealed. There’s bound to be different opinions.
Getting back to the original topic of the post … my opinion is YES.
Comic store owner fined nearly $5000 by Feds. Federal bureaucrat had this to say:
“”Not knowing the law is common, but ignorance is not acceptable,” Aranda said. “It’s important that (Weddleton) came into compliance.””
Hillary’s ignorance is not acceptable. But she doesn’t have to pay a fine or face a jury. Instead, she is the democrat nominee for president.
To argue that an American CBT lawsuit is not a Canadian fight does not imply one is staunchly opposed to such a lawsuit nor does it equate to undermining such a lawsuit. Yeah I know I said I was out of here…..
@Jan:
Very well said!!
The corruption within the Obama administration is so great as to astound even the most minimally informed.
Americans are outraged and it is why they flock to Donald J. Trump rallies in masses and numbers , though coverage of is suppressed by media, continues to grow and grow.
Julian Assange is not a criminal but has been treated like one for six years BECAUSE he reveals the criminality of the US government.
Donald Trump is vilified in every way on every television in every country on the planet BECAUSE he not only reveals the criminality in greater degree than anyone else, he proposes legitimate policies to right the wrongs and bring the country back to their Constitutional roots in all ways. Including the Supreme Court.
There is not one person who reads his platform and policies ( which have been incorporated into the Republican Party Platform) who can deny he is a truthful, viable, honest candidate for president.
He is popular because he is Right. Strong. Determined. Loves America and her ideal way of life that has been nearly completely destroyed by Obama , Clinton and the Muslim Brotherhood which has been installed in every facet of the government.
Many millions of Americans see this election as their last best hope to have even the smallest chance of restoring the country and kicking out the corruption and criminality that Obama and Clinton represent. Every day , new revelations only confirm the truth of this and the truth of how hard the Globalists are fighting against any return of the country to the rule of the people.
Mr. Trump today addressed Pastors in Orlando. He asked for their prayers and vowed that their voices will be returned to them if he becomes president. ( they have been silenced by threats of revoking their tax exempt status if they speak their minds about politics or anything else. Enabled by the Johnson amendment it has silenced religious leaders and congregations across the nation from speaking about the decline of the society and culture to the obvious detriment of American Christian Judean culture upon which the nation was founded. )
Having followed the candidacy of Donald Trump from the beginning , through the primaries and the convention, we have great difficulty with the kind of moronic uninformed nonsense we see all around the Net and in all media about both the man himself and his candidacy. His platform and policies alone refute the majority of criticism.
But watching people repeating the propaganda promulgated everywhere against the man himself is infuriating.
Most people it seems like to think of themselves as ‘with it’ and repeat what they see and hear without doing any research on their own to actually know what is really going on.
And what is really going on is this:
Mr. Trump is the one and only man who scares the HELL out of the globalists who have nearly achieved their final play for world domination: The demise of the United States , her Christian culture and her foundation of the Constitution. They have said so many times that what is needed for their final victory is the elimination of the United States as she was founded.
( It is one of the major reasons why FATCA was implemented by Obama. Destructive, intrusive, engendering hate, fear and loathing of the US from around the world not to mention the stifling of over 9 million voices against what they are doing to the United States. )
The lawsuit here is of paramount importance to many millions of Americans and Canadians as well as many citizens around the world. The lawsuit in the US is also of great importance.
The platform Donald Trump has implemented for the Republican party recognizes the need to repeal FATCA and generate Residency Based Taxation.
It is important for all citizens of the world who cherish individual freedom to support Donald Trump in his drive for the presidency.
For without his success and rise to the Presidency all individual freedom will end both in the United States and around the world.
And Sharia Law WILL be implemented in the West.
Trump is a quintessential Homelander. If he becomes an advocate for those affected by the USA international tax invasion I will be pleasantly surprised.
Donald Trump is an American and strong advocate for America. And Americans all around the world. A major distinction.
We believe the implementation of repeal of FATCA and the residency rule in the platform is proof of that along with his complete understanding of the global view regarding both American companies overseas and American individuals.
Hillary Clinton certainly will do nothing on that front and will, by contrast fight every effort to repeal it and has shown in so many ways her complete disregard for both human life and American life.
I lack any evidence that Trump is an advocate for Americans around the world.
I am afraid that my cynicism does not allow me to see Trump as saviour. What I see is a narcissist. The Republican platform is admittedly superior to the Democrat’s, and that is a plus. But Trump is a deeply flawed candidate. Hillary and Trump are together the two worst candidates I’ve seen in my lifetime. The Homelanders deserve them, but the rest of us don’t.
@Petros:
It is not going to matter. Not at this stage.
There is not one Republican candidate who could or would do what Americans all around the world caught up in FATCA need doing.
Every single one of them with the exception of Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee are bought by Goldman Sachs, Citibank and George Soros.
And they now campaign for Trump.
Trump funds his own campaign AND raises money for the RNC.
It is extremely important that the Americans get this one right.
For all of us around the world not just the Americans abroad in every country on the planet.
We just do not have the luxury or capacity to call on a perfect person to represent our needs politically.
Interesting that the one person who has shown up does not pretend to be perfect but loves his country and is prepared to put his own money where his mouth is.
The last ‘perfect person’ who showed up on this planet was vilified and crucified !
The Obama administration blocked the FBI from investigating the Clinton Foundation, today in the Washington Times:
‘And anyway, as far as I can see, this FATCA thing is not really a solidarity situation. “US Persons everywhere” (let alone “US Persons who don’t want to be US Persons”) is certainly not a category I myself identify with or wish to be a part of, on the contrary I’ve gone to a lot of trouble and spent what for me is a lot of money to get rid of it.’
And what did they do to people to whom they’d told decades earlier that those people had got rid of it? “Former US persons everywhere” maybe had better be afraid.
Though of course in this election, pathological lying thieving criminal vs. pathological lying thieving lunatic (vs. third parties in a country where the last time a third party won an election was 1860) US citizens living in the US maybe had better be afraid too.
“The idea that Brock should avail itself to only specific types of US persons and their opinions is absurd. The US government certainly doesn’t make any distinctions between groups of US persons abroad, why should we?”
The US government certainly does make a distinction. Denise Rich got a pardon. Do you think we will? If all Brockers join together will we be able to make a big enough campaign contribution and get a bulk deal?

“Nobody can even come up with an explanation of how a win in the Charter trial would help those Canadians who are subject to FATCA reporting. I’d say that’s a rather worrying situation.”
A win in the Canadian Charter trial should mean that Canadian banks would not be allowed to search out
“US Persons” (ex. on the basis of US birthplace) among Canadian citizen/resident account holders. The banks would not be allowed to ask questions about US citizenship, country of birth etc. This would definitely help many Canadians (who live in Canada) who are potentially subject to FATCA reporting.
We would escape it. Our Charter rights would be upheld.
“A win in the Canadian Charter trial should mean that Canadian banks would not be allowed to search out
“US Persons” (ex. on the basis of US birthplace) among Canadian citizen/resident account holders. The banks would not be allowed to ask questions about US citizenship, country of birth etc. ”
If the Canadian IGA were to be struck down as a result of a win in the Charter trial, Canada would revert to being a country with no IGA in force, meaning that FIs in Canada would be subject to the naked FATCA regulations:
Under FATCA, to avoid being withheld upon, foreign financial institutions (FFIs) may register with the IRS and agree to report to the IRS certain information about their U.S. accounts, including accounts of certain foreign entities with substantial U.S. owners
FFIs that enter into an agreement with the IRS to report on their account holders may be required to withhold 30% on certain payments to foreign payees if such payees do not comply with FATCA
[..]
Unless otherwise exempt, FFIs that do not both register and agree to report face a 30% withholding tax on certain U.S.-source payments made to them.
Privacy laws would probably mean that the banks would be unable to enter into an agreement with the IRS to send the data direct to the IRS, and therefore the 30% withholding would apply. That would have a heavy impact on the Canadian economy.
Thus, all Canadians would end up paying the price, not just Canadians suffering from USness. That’s equality, I guess.
However, I daresay the case won’t succeed, or if it were to be successful, the Canadian government would appeal and win.
@Norman Diamond – “And what did they do to people to whom they’d told decades earlier that those people had got rid of it? “Former US persons everywhere” maybe had better be afraid.”
It’s pointless to try to frighten people by repeatedly attributing to the IRS powers they don’t possess. I’m sorry you’ve been treated so badly by them, and I’m sorry those who relinquished were subsequently treated as if the relinquishment had never occurred. It’s wrong, and unjust, but it doesn’t mean that all people should live their lives in unnecessary fear of the IRS bogeyman.
Renunciations can’t be revoked, and the IRS can’t turn up on the doorstep of a person living in another country and prise their CLN out of their hands at gunpoint. Have no fear, renunciants. Celebrate your escape, thumb your noses at the IRS and get on with your lives. 🙂
