The official link for Keith Redmond on Fox Radio is here: http://radio.foxnews.com/2015/01/26/american-expat-keith-redmond-on-why-some-americans-abroad-renounce-us-citizenship/
Please stop using the other link that has a pirated recording of the interview. It is bugging the hell out of Fox.
For those who don’t know Keith, he lives in France and is the moderator and creator of the American Expatriates group on Facebook.
I have no comments on the interview. I will listen to it later.
an exceptionally good interview!
With the short amount of time Keith Redmond was allowed, I thought he did an excellent job of getting the main points of FATCA across to the listeners. I hope the “Homelanders” will have a better understanding of just what the expats are up against.
While there isn’t much here that Brockers don’t already know, Keith was very articulate and knew how to explain the situation for Americans ignorant on this issue. Keith mentioned our lawsuit in Canada (although he didn’t give any specifics) and the lawsuit against the US by the Republicans Overseas.
Keith explained one common misperception: that overseas Americans who renounce citizenship are trying to avoid paying taxes. Often they don’t owe any taxes but have to pay a specialist $1000 to $2000 to report this to the IRS. But now that FATCA has taken hold, banks have been closing accounts of US-affliliated clients. Unless these clients renounce US citizenship, they’re denied banking services or they can’t have a normal retirement account. Keith explained how this has made them 2nd class citizens, like wearing a scarlet letter “A” on their foreheads.
…and Keith Redmond did a great job of having something new in front of more listeners than those at Brock!!
Thanks for posting, Petros!
There is a link at the Fox link to Keith Redmond’s CNBC commentary as well.
AND, those who *do Facebook* can comment. A couple good comments there already.
Thanks for the new link. I didn’t know I was “bugging the hell out of Fox” but I really don’t mind much that I did. Nevertheless I listened to the interview again today and again I was impressed by Keith Redmond’s outstanding presentation.
Keith Redmond — Brock Star in Europe!
Yes Keith did extremely well articulating the plights of Americans abroad. He actually provided the link to that “pirated” recording on his Facebook but I am sure it will go away. That Facebook group is very interesting to follow. And I did gain an ounce of respect for Fox News from this.
Yes, nice job, Keith.
Excellent interview. The Show’s host John Gibson appeared to sit in a kind of “shock” if you will, after learning of the destruction of people’s lives who were born in the USA and left to live in another country. The reaction of John’s says it all. Thank you Keith Redmond for so clearly explaining the “reality” of Obama’s law.
He says that the essence of FATCA was “to catch Americans living in the United States hiding money offshore.” Let’s finally put that canard to rest. The purpose of FATCA was to catch offshore tax cheats (he means you!). The man who signed into law, Barack Obama said it.
“FATCA is so loosely written that it has cast this web that it has entrapped Americans living overseas”. Please, the law intended to do that and the IGAs intend to do this. This is part of the plan from the beginning to steal the wealth of Americans living overseas. Folks, Keith is well spoken, but he has bought the lies about FATCA on this point:
FATCA: the master plan
The idea that Democrats Abroad was working against FATCA is a little hard to take. DA exists only to promote the Democrat party to Americans abroad, not to promote Americans abroad to Democrats in power.
I will say that I am very impressed with Keith’s ability to say so much in such a short space of time and how he passionately made his point. Overall, I give him an A–with my disagreements noted in the last three comments.
Only problem I have with the interview, other than the mention of Dems Abroad (whom I consider complicit and culpable), is not specifically talking about accidental Americans and Americans who may have lived abroad for most of their life (although the Boris Johnson example helps). However it is excellent overall.
Keith did a great job, but I think he is far too polite to the Democrats. FATCA is their baby, and they still continue to embrace CBT.
They have yet to offer anything other than a small band-aid called “same country exemption,” which creates another form to fill-in but artfully dodges the root cause of the problem — CBT.
I tried to post the following at http://radio.foxnews.com/2013/08/25/canadian-born-ted-cruz-im-only-american/ and then found that sonce I dont do Facebook, my comment could not be submitted. Please anyone else here who does Facebook … I would appreciate the hlp in getting the comment posted … no need for attribution.

Cruz was born Canadian … and that will never change. He will always have a right to Canadian Citizenship .. with zero complications and without the imposition of taxation from other nations who tax based on RESIDENCY.
Dare I say that MANY (if not indeed MOST?) Americans have citizenship rights in other countries …. whether Canada, Mexico, Poland, Jamaica, France, Germany or elsewhere due to their places of birth OR the citizenship / birthplaces of their parents or grandparents OR their residence around the world for extended periods. That is a fact of life and is NORMAL. That is what gave rise to the USA in the first place. The problem is vice versa … the only two countries that behave badly and MAKE this sort of thing into a problem are the US and Eritrea.
Of course in some British Commonwealth countries like Jamaica for example, the only people who can legally SIT IN THE HOUSE OF PARLIAMENT are CITIZENS of a Commonwealth country …. therefore excluding people like US Duals and Venezuelan Duals but including people like Antigua and Barbuda Duals, Australian Duals and so on through the alphabetic list of 53 Commonwealth nations to Zambian Duals. It is fully time now for the US (and Eritrea) to get with the program and harmonize their antique and oppressive law (Citizenship Based Taxation) with the rest of the world. Then of course there would be removed the principle smoke screen for the insane US law that is FATCA.
I said it on the Media thread and I’ll say it again here, Keith Redmond, you are a star! If you’re reading here, THANK YOU! And thanks to John Gibson as well who, for the most part, sat back (probably in stunned silence, as NativeCanadian said) and let Keith talk. Fabulous! Considering how many people probably listen to FOX News I think this interview was a major coup for our cause.

Good for you! Though I hadn’t listened to John Gibson before, I too was impressed he let Keith talk, and didn’t constantly interrupt. I also was impressed with Keith for sticking to the problems of the American people who moved abroad — rather than spending his limited time blaming Democrats or Obama. He explained how FATCA was a rider tacked onto the HIRE ACT bill that Congress passed which was intended to catch Americans hiding money overseas. That is, after all, the reason for FATCA Congress wants Americans to believe (and many in Congress believe themselves), although, yes Petros, we Brockers know there is an ulterior motive (and honestly, Keith didn’t have a long enough interview to get into that). Keith’s point was to explain how a new law–FATCA–came into existence and was implemented through IGAs which in turn, result in all sorts of problems for US-dual citizens living all over the world, e.g. the US military vet married to a German who couldn’t keep a mortgage with a bank until/unless he renounced US citizenship. This has prompted lawsuits by the Canadians and the Republicans Overseas.
I too hope this interview gets a lot of notice!
@Petros exactly FATCA may have been sold to the public one way (which I don’t think it was) but its intent has been clear from day one, extract wealth from people who have no voice.
The other thing that drives me a bit nuts is a lot of people say it’s not about taxes, well, FATCA is about taxes it’s the (FOREIGN ACCOUNT TAX COMPLIANCE ACT), its having a foreign account that will bring you into tax compliance, and just wait, you haven’t seen anything yet, taxes come next to all those who become compliant.
FATCA has never been about taxes – it’s all about the penalties that they can levy with regards to the non-filers. That’s what it is all about – and that’s all it ever will be. It’s a cash-cow for the Democrats because all they’re interested in is how many people they can ding for penalties.
