I Am Canada, Hear Me Roar, Mr. President — another letter to President Obama
from a Canadian…
We have no representation in the U.S. and no voice. Ironically, taxation without representation was the catalyst for the Boston Tea Party. We were children when we came to Canada. We are Canadians. Who will be our voice?
QUESTION:
Mr Wood, would you consider reprinting more of these letters as articles as you receive them?
Reply
Author, Robert W. Wood
Yes, I would indeed, thanks.

Do we really have so many media outlets covering our story somewhat objectively that we can be selective about who will do it?
Mr Wood may very well be entirely self-serving, but that doesn’t make him any less useful to us. I am pretty sure that the Boris Johnson story would not be as big as it is today if he hadn’t written about it in Forbes, after a couple of us told him about the NPR radio interview that all of the current controversy around Mr Johnson stems from.
I agree, bubblebustin. Robert Wood really helped jettison the Boris Johnson story to put it in front of many more. I, for one, am grateful for his help. He has certainly listened to what we have to say and, to my thinking, has shown he has learned a lot from our comments. He has kept ‘our story’ alive at Forbes and it has gone further than their “pages”. How many of his columns have dealt with this? Awareness is half the battle — and I welcome that from every media person who has helped that along.
PS: Name-calling will get us nowhere but backwards, in my mind.
As the author of this letter, I can tell you that it was sent to several newspapers in Ottawa. No one gave it the time of day! It almost seems as if the Canadian media is being muzzled ??? I am not sure what Mr. Wood’s motives might be, but just maybe as a tax lawyer he has NO love for the IRS ??? And whether we like it or not, some will need a tax lawyer. Such as the individual who has never taken citizenship, their bank is aware of the US-NESS and maybe they own businesses in Canada.
@JC
it is the same story in both places
I know nothing about Mr. Wood, except that he has been persistently getting our stories out there, for which I am grateful. Ad hominem attacks distract from getting the real message out.
Sorry, Mr. Wood, not Woods.
@ Ann #1 I thought it was you as well. Too many similarities to your story. Good to get your story published. What a shock for you to realize you had been published.
Many are not fans of Robert Wood and he could use his column for a good investigative journal piece. . However he does keep our plight in the news and comments seem to be increasing in our favour. The issue is getting press.
“Do you have any constructive suggestions?”
Thank you, Calgary, for the important reminder to all of us here that together we are trying to make a positive change in the world. We are trying to convince the United States to change some very bad laws and to convince the world’s governments not to make matters worse by honouring those very bad laws themselves. Any journalist who publishes articles relating to our cause, whether for or against, gives us a voice. We are a grassroots movement that depends on the media to get the word out. We do not do ourselves a service when we resort to name-calling and the use of potty language.
Whatever his motivation or his personal opinion may be, I applaud Robert Wood for devoting so many of his columns to our issue.
