[We now have a NEW POST taking us up to February 1, 2015. This post will be retired from service.]
THE AUTUMN 2014 UPDATE
Dear Donors,
Together, we reached our goal of $100,000 to pay the November 1 legal bill 11 days ahead of schedule!
Thank you Canadian donors from coast to coast and our friends from around the world for your generosity, support and determination — and especially for not being afraid.
The name of our non-profit corporation is the “Alliance for the Defence of Canadian Sovereignty.”
We were very deliberate in including in our name the word “sovereignty”, which forms a cornerstone of our Claims against the Government of Canada.
Canada and dozens of other countries throughout the world gave into a bully because their “leaders” were afraid of harm caused by a trading “partner” — and they gave their sovereignties away.
Help us convince by example the Leaders and Governments of all countries worldwide that they should return their sovereignties back to their Peoples.
Please continue to support our lawsuit.

Chers donateurs,
» (Helen Keller)

I would also like to buy a large quantity of them to hand out to other Minority groups at risk of the same fate. Who is to say, Canada won’t trash other people’s rights for the right amount of money? After all, this IS about MONEY right?
We need to take out a classified ad in the “items for sale” section and post our “Canadians for sale” ad to show that for the right amount of money and threats, Canada will hand over personal information to ANY government so they can find them on Canadian soil, pursue them and prosecute them until their ransom is paid. Think we’re kidding?
@Native Canadian, your last comment created an idea.
Could the shirt say something to the effect “My government sold me out. Did they sell you out?”
Or on the back John Richardson’s quote, “The most feared question, Are you or have you ever been an American?”
We also need to show that, in the old days, Mr. Mike Allen, Mr. Gerald Keddy etc. Would be hanged in public for treason. gosh, we have so much to do!!
@NorthernShrike,
Thank you for contacting me with your very good suggestion, which we are following up on.
Stephen
@George.. how about “my government sold me out YOU may be next”
I like “second-class Canadian” best. There’s a bit of humour to it, which might leave people more comfortable to ask why (unless you are of a visible minority, then they still might find it humourous but won’t find it necessary to ask why).
How about incorporating a small American flag in the design?
I was thinking Half of a Canadian flag with the other half, US flag… hmmmmm
@Native Canadian;
Or…… “my government sold me out to the USA and YOU may be next”
Great idea about the T-Shirts Native Canadian.
I wondered about “I’ve been Conned” in big black letters and maybe a figure filled in with the Canadian flag and a US flag stamp on his chest.
and underneath: “Ask me how the Harper Government turned me into a second class citizen”
Being “Conned” has been used here at Brock and I think it makes a great tagline. Direct connection to Harper and a word everyone is wary of. Just thinking out loud. : )
Just my humble opinion. I think second-class citizen is overused to the point of having hacked knees. I, a Canadian (all my life, never been anything else), have been deemed to be an ALIEN in my own land by my own government who threw me under the C-31 omnibus. But that’s waaaaay too much for a T-shirt. 🙂
I do like “My government sold me out to the USA and YOU may be next.” That’s doable. It should prompt the questions, “How and why?” And then the FATCA informing can begin.
@ Deb
Oh I do like the Conned concept too. Puts the blame exactly where it belongs. Maybe another way to put it would be “I’ve been harpooned by Harper OR just Harperooned” (hopefully people think of harpoons and not macaroons). But “Conned” with a least a hint of the Cons logo in the “C” is great (not sure about copyrights there though).
Canada asks for the US IRS:
“Are you or have you ever been a US citizen?”
OR
“Is there any reason the US would consider you a US citizen?”
@Native Canadian,
You mention the name of Mr. Gerald Keddy.
I believe that he has made at least one statement in the House Committee deliberations that is inaccurate and which must be retracted and corrected. Readers might feel that there are other inaccurate statements that have been made.
I have spoken to the offices of the House Speaker and Committee Clerk, and it appears that we have no recourse when inaccurate statements are made in Committee. However, a suggestion was made that we could approach other MPs who could help us request that such statements be corrected.
See below my letter to Mr. Keddy in which I cc MPs who might be helpful. Others might wish to contact MPs as well:
Thanks for all these suggestions, letters, and hints. As someone who just renounced my US citizenship, I offer this letter to Stephen Harper, my MP.
I am one of those “accidental” Americans that you’ve been hearing about in the news. I came to Canada at the age of 15 and have spent my entire life here. I went to school here, took all of my higher education here, and have been gainfully employed and paid taxes in Canada since I was 17. I married a Canadian and my children are Canadian. When my father passed away a number of years ago, I took out Canadian citizenship, because, as my husband pointed out, I have been a Canadian for all intents and purposes for many years.
That’s why I am appalled that your government is allowing the US to invade the privacy and bank accounts of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who happened to have the misfortune of being born south of the border. Why is the Conservative government allowing the US to demand that Canadian residents and citizens declare US citizenship on their CANADIAN tax filings? Why is it allowing the US government to demand information about money in their CANADIAN bank accounts? Why is it enabling what is so obviously a cash grab from people like me who have never worked or lived or used any of the services in the US in my life. Does Canada allow the Chinese or Swedish governments to tax Canadians who are dual citizens? Does it allow the Argentinian government access to information about Canadian banking customers? Why, then, does it allow such an abuse of Canadians born in the US?
After spending thousands of dollars on accountants’ fees to file US tax returns for the past 5 years, I am set to renounce my US citizenship in hopes that I can clear this mess up so my children won’t have to deal with it when I die. I fear though, that for me, the damage has already been done: the US already has my financial information through my tax filings. However, for the sake of the hundreds of thousands of US citizens in similar situations, I urge you, as my MP and as the PM, to pass laws to prevent this outrageous invasion of Canadian citizens’ and residents’ privacy.
Okay, been re-thinking the big “C” in Conned. How about inside that “C” a red maple leaf going upside down into a black money pot marked with USA or a US flag or some stars and stripes. I have to stop now to get some gardening done (aka weed mining), although slogans and logo speculation do help to chase away my FATCA blues … a bit.
@ Fully Canadian
Excellent letter!
@everyone – the best way to fight back now, against our travesty of a government, is to dig down as much as mentally and fiscally possible and donate to the legal challenge.
Please speak to anyone and everyone you know personally or through friends, who may be affected, as well as Canadians not of US origin, who will support our just cause to preserve our Canadian sovereignty and urge them to donate.
The Cons have to see that we mean business! But we can’t do it without the funds to take them to court. Every amount counts! We have a month to get the first phase in process…Canada Day is rapidly approaching!
@FullyCanadian:
VERY good letter! Excellent and detailed. Let us know if you actually get a reply.
All our efforts to get the word out to Conservative mps have fallen on deaf ears with little to no response. IF we do get a response it is the Gerald Keddy variety. Uninformed and by rote. “Congress has spoken”
or ‘US has the right to tax their citizens’ with no other indication they know fully or understand the issue beyone that.
I doubt PM Harper has even read the IGA or FATCA for that matter.
That’s one good thing about winter, Em – NO WEEDS!
Couple of great letters there, Stephen and FullyCanadian.
I believe this adage applies to Mr Keddy:
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Thank you , Stephen, for sending your letter to Mr. Keddy requesting a retraction of his erroneous statement regarding the U.S. taxation of certain Canadian registered savings vehicles. It is, indeed, critical that Parliament know the facts of this matter.
With regard to Mr. Keddy (whose performance at the Finance Committee I found particularly offensive) I note the following quote posted earlier on this thread by Badger:
“The hon. member [Mr. Keddy here refers to Elizabeth May to whom he is responding] talked about Canadian citizens. Canadian citizens are not caught in this loop. Dual citizens will have to pay taxes in the U.S. or, properly speaking, for the hon. member’s benefit, they have to file tax returns.”
With this pronouncement Mr. Keddy confirms his understanding that dual citizens are not Canadians! Since birth in the United States automatically makes one a U.S. citizen what he is saying is that any Canadian citizen born in the United States is not really Canadian at all! And I pay this man with my tax dollars to help “lead” my country! What a travesty!
@MuzzledNoMore:
EXACTLY right. He is wrong on so many levels and arrogant too boot!
@Muzzled,
Could you (and others) please send a short email to Mr. Keddy asking him to retract, correct, and apologize in Parliament etc. for that statement as well? This must be done prior to discussion of the amendments in Parliament which will take place apparently tomorrow.
This is not an email of complaint, but an email specifically requesting a retraction and correction so that Parliament and the public will not be misled.
“Canadian citizens are not caught up in this loop” ???
Your email will only have a chance of having any slight impact if you cc MPs who are sympathetic. Perhaps an MP will ask in Parliament: “Mr. Speaker, did the Honourable Member mis-speak when he said in Committee ….. and …..and …and ….?” You might also cc the House Speaker and Clerk of the Committee on the email for emphasis.
