Today, in the mail, I received two cards from ‘Joe’ a grateful Canadian. One was addressed to me and one addressed to Ginny c/o myself. Inside he writes:
Dear Ms. Hillis/Ms. Deegan
I read the recent article in the Toronto Star. I feel exactly the same way you do and I am so glad you are taking up this cause. I think many supporters may not want to comment online because of the Patriot Act, so please accept my thanks for your time and energy; it’s a large undertaking.
You are a true champion for Canadian Sovereignty!
Yours Truly
‘Joe’
Ginny and I thank ‘Joe’ and every other Canadian who supports us, but who may be afraid to comment online or send cards/letters. I hope that ‘Joe’ represents at least 10 more people who are like-minded.
I believe Joe does represent the silent ones. who believe Ginny and Gwen are heroes.
I am not silent. I love you guys!
Thanks Ginny and Gwen for stepping up to the plate. You are my heroines. I know we will win. Will keep sending my donations. Ann
I am grateful. I speak for my family and the families of my siblings. You and I are Canadian, and we need to remind our government of this and their obligations. Thank you so much.
I am grateful too! When Gwen met me, she heard my voice jump up and tell off a candidate at the “all candidates debate” in Toronto, who was not interested in hearing about Fatca . This was my first time meeting John Richardson. I could see in everyone’s eyes, we were all serious about justice for the innocent victims of the US government’s law. Thanks again Gwen and Ginny. I’ll be here to support you from start to finish….and you can bank (credit union) on that!!
Remember that post we had here some time ago: Gratitude as an antidote to the poison of FATCA and US citizenship-based taxation?
I’d like to add to the things that I had gratitude for:
My most recent is for Gwen and Ginnie, their bravery in speaking out for themselves and in doing so for other *US Persons* in Canada (and abroad), especially “Accidental Americans”. I can never thank you enough for putting yourselves on the line.
I also am thankful for all of the incredible work that I have seen behind the scenes to make this litigation a reality — from Tim’s suggestion of and then Blaze,Tiger and Somerfugal’s early contact in 2012 with constitutional lawyer, Joseph Arvay, to more recently the formation of Alliance for the Defence of Canadian Sovereignty and now commencement of the long awaited for litigation and Statement of Claim for two brave plaintiffs, Gwen and Ginny. I am grateful for being able to work with such committed persons on the ADCS-ADSC team, comprise of more than just the four whose names appear because “we’re OUT”. Stephen and John and Trish and Gwen — when do you sleep?
Another behind-the-scenes happening was the crafting of the Human Rights Complaint sent to the UN on August 7, 2014 — the ‘instigators’ and those who helped them craft such a comprehensive document. I have been trying to get confirmation on receipt of that document and will get up early tomorrow to make a phone call in that regard. Fingers crossed I make contact with the right people.
I’m appreciating some good media coverage of the Challenge and hope beyond hope that it will continue and more will learn of what the Conservative government did in the name of *US Persons in Canada* to protect the Canadian financial institutions. They could have said “No Way” but they chose not to – and here we are the victims of the implementation of the US FATCA IGA in Canada, combined with US citizenship-based taxation, digging deep into our pockets already lightened by the US tax compliance industry in Canada to scrape together even more to have our voice heard through litigation. Thank you Murray Rankin, Nathan Cullen, Mike Sullivan who supported me, as well as Elizabeth May, Scott Brison, Ted Hsu and others of the Opposition parties. What an education you gave us of the Parliamentary procedures of Canada and what a majority government in lockstep means. Thank you Joseph Arvay and team for representing us — we expect and look forward to seeing you find justice for us and in doing so prove the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and other Canadian law is for ALL Canadians.
As ever, I am grateful for this site that Petros maintains and Maple Sandbox.ca and for the commenters here who make it what it is for us and for the new *US Persons* who come to get information and support to make their journeys just a bit easier. Looking back, we’ve come so far — and we will find a way to raise the incredible amount of money needed to go further and fight the good fight. The government in power has spoken — that they don’t care for all of Canada’s people so it must be us who takes on this job. Thank you for your continued donations: http://www.adcs-adsc.ca/
As usual, too many words to say what I have to say – but they are all necessary and I have likely forgotten something and will have to add again to my gratitude.
I hope one day I will be grateful for the book that tells our whole story — with a just and happy ending.

It must be gratifying being shown this kind of appreciation, Gwen. You deserve a million times more!
Sorry off topic – but Rand Paul’s father, Dr Ron Paul, sums up the US’ problems with FATCA and other issues in a 4 min audio.
Thank u Mr Ron Paul. A very sensible analysis.
Ginny and Gwen;
Thank you so much. You have not only enabled the lawsuit to be filed, but you have also inspired many media articles including your stories, ADCS, and other “tainted” or “accidental” Americans.
BRAVA Ginny!
BRAVA Gwen!
@calgary411, you have said it so well, thank you.
Thank you to all who have brought this from theory to practical reality – each in their own way, at IBS, Maple Sandbox, ADCS, and in many other individual actions on this issue.
Gwen and Ginny, I send you heartfelt gratitude, support, well wishes, and admiration.
