We got an anonymous tip in our ADCS-ADSC.ca email letting us know that we have made it to the big time.
Go to the Wikipedia page about FATCA and scroll down to “Opposition” – we are listed just under the entry about James Bopp, superlawyer.
There is a link to our website there. Thank you anonymous tipper and thank you anonymous editor in Wikipedia who added us.
The Isaac Brock Society and Maple Sandbox are also listed π
Awesome , Awesome, Awesome….
Thank you GwEvil for posting this and thank you Wiki anonymous poster and editor.
It is interesting what the wiki article writes on costs:
“…FATCA is expected to raise revenues of approximately US$800 million per year for the U.S. Treasury…”
That’s an interesting “cost”.
Editing pre-existing Wikipedia articles is, unfortunately, typically a waste of time, unless you know how to avoid setting off insiders’ alarm bells. The faction who patrol that particular FATCA article (people who blather on about &ldquo:rich scumbags who don’t want to support their country”) will just remove it.
OTOH if you can get something to stick, you’ll find a surprising number of lazy journalists copying your words …
The Republican resolution to repeal FATCA is referenced by Wikipedia within the FATCA article: https://www.abolishfatca.com/live/RNC_FATCA_Resolution.pdf
The way the resolution is written it very much appears that The Republicans are in tune with issues on this website and impacts of FATCA on USP abroad – with multiple mentions of issues. Should we adopt: ” “Nous sommes tous Republicans”
Democrats Abroad are quite focused on FATCA, yet their party in America has not caught on yet.
Closer to U.S. November “midterm” elections we might request stateside friends who are Republican to please vote, and friends who are democrats to vote Republican even if they have never done so in their lives. If the Republicans take the Senate and hold the House then they could pass a repeal of FATCA putting a spotlight on Obama if he tries to veto the measure. If at that point everything else fails one might hope for a benevolent Republican to get elected President in 2016 for change in 2017. The legal challenge link under James Bopp in the article lays this out.
It seems like no immediate changes so that is why firing up the ADCS challenge is important and imperative. It will send a clear message to Obama.
Back to the Republican resolution. While it states: “The Republican National Committee urges the IRS to cease causing the negative impact on United States and its Citizens overseas.” It falls short of renouncing CBT. However, as one may argue negative impact of CBT to US citizens overseas, then this could be a wedge to help end or modify CBT. It would be interesting to see detail of any repeal legislation.
Calgary411’s son got a mention in the “Controversy” section which looks to be pretty comprehensive:
That’s fantastic. FATCA opposition listed on a mainstream website. It’s almost certain the opposition section will have additional entries made soon.
Very good! Thanks to the powers that be.
Now if we could only get ADCS to stand for it rather than the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study in a Google search!
That is wonderful to see. Everywhere I go and whenever I’m asked for more info about the FATCA stuff I say “You HAVE to check out Brock.” π
@ Victoria: Ditto from me!
Nice. Seems to come from Bellevue, Washington, i.e. state-side.
Now we need each of IBS, Maple Sandbox and ADCS to have their own individual extensive entry?
Perhaps the author of this article in Forbes read Wikipedia? No mention of the Canadian opposition though: http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2014/07/17/fatca-remains-vulnerable-despite-implementation/
FATCA:
“a self-destructive policy”
“For all the acrimony and international financial upheaval it has caused, FATCA is a poor excuse for a solution to tax evasion.”
“IGA partners will have sold out their sovereignty for nothing in return”
“FATCA is under heavy political seige”
“FATCA’s international confusion and hostility”
