The senate hearing isn’t archived. Maybe they think the Senate is obsolete.
FWIW I tried yesterday to view the hearing on parlvu and I couldn’t get anything to download, I finally did manage to get “live” (???after the meeting was over supposedly?) and all I got was Joe Oliver stumbling over his notes which he couldn’t even read convincingly, about something other than FATCA. The man is an embarrassment to his country never mind his party. Flaherty was a couple of light-years ahead of Oliver in terms of intelligence, being well-briefed, and remembering his briefing notes. Same impression the day before at the House committee hearing. If I were a Finance Canada official I’d be terrified of letting Oliver loose in public on any issue unless I had a live feed into his ear to correct him or prompt him as he stumbled along. That Harper picked someone like this as his replacement for Flaherty speaks volumes about Harper’s judgment — or lack thereof. For Harper to question Trudeau’s judgment (and no, I’m NOT a fan of JT), in this context and light, is ludicrous.
… my point being that WhiteKat and others aren’t the only tech-literature folks who had trouble getting into the feed, never mind finding a file to download once I asked for it on the pop-up menu. The House of Commons Finance Committee files were MUCH more accessible and easier to get at. Typical of the Senate, I guess …
Good to know I’m not the only one who can’t get at NFFN Meeting No. 40. The schedule indicates ParlVu taped it but no can do a download no how now. As I said, ParlVu is a bit flakey. CBA rep Darren Hannah — what a slick, steely-eyed, conscienceless, apologist for the bankstering industry.

Chickens coming home to roost indeed. Miami is notorious for having taken in drug money, so Colombia’s action will put the U.S. in a very awkward situation. Good on Colombia! If the U.S. doesn’t help Colombia, I don’t see how the rest of the world will take the U.S. seriously. Mexico, seems to be mainly interested in FATCA because it wants help tracing the finances of the drug cartels, so I am sure it is paying attention.
I bet the drug cartel in Mexico banks in the US anyway. The best way to hide something is hide it out in the open. I read too many crime novels. Are we on the skids with Master Card and Visa? Seems this entire crazy scheme is economic warfare to say the least. Why the heck they want to kill off their own citizens financially is incomprehensible.
@Ann: The way the US used to punish its citizens for becoming citizens of other countries was to strip them of their US citizenship. Now, the way they punish us is to try to force citizenship on us (including retroactively).
CBT, FBAR, FATCA, OVDI, etc., etc. are also intended as punishment for any American having the audacity to fall in love with a “foreigner”, working or retiring in another country or simply choosing another lifestyle.
None of this is about taxes, money or finances. It’s about power and control. End of story.
Is the Privacy Commissioner about to break her silence on FATCA. She hasn’t spoken since the IGA was announced and her office has not responded to any of my e-mails.
On Tuesday, Chantal Bernier is scheduled to speak before the Senate on FATCA. I am not available then, but it should be fascinating for anyone who can check it out. Please let is know what she says.
I have no idea. She is new. However, at one point a Privacy Commissioner said on CBC Radio she would go to Federal Court if the Privacy Act or PIPEDA was violated.
It may have been Ontario Morning or on the news but i am not able to find it. Unfortunately, the Implementation Act overrides all other laws, including privacy, so I don’t know exactly what she will do.
I wish George was in Canada.
As for me, I’m FATCAed out. I’m done for the day.

This is where it should be accessible http://senparlvu.parl.gc.ca/Guide.aspx?viewmode=4&categoryid=-1&eventid=9451&Language=E. Neither can I access it, Blaze.
