This is a challenge aimed at the Government of Canada regarding the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Whatever happens in Canada regarding this challenge, hopefully, will then be able to be applied in other countries by the persons there. We in Canada cannot apply this challenge to other governments than our own.
Very well done — classy and to the point!
Very dignified. It shows the serious intent of this undertaking. I like it and in the spirit of this well designed logo I will refrain from using exclamation points … and a smiley face.
Wicked, GwEvil
Thanks for the positive response! and @Distressed American yes as calgary411 says, we as Canadians cannot challenge US laws, as they are made in the US. We can only challenge the law in Canada allowing FATCA to override our sovereign laws. That is not to say that we do not welcome any help from all quarters, as this is a global fight, Canada being ground zero for the beginning of the overthrow of FATCA around the world. We hope to encourage and inspire citizens of all countries to challenge the law within their own borders as well.
Elegant, serious, solid, and Canadian.
Bravo!
I want the t-shirt too.
With a crossed out FATCA or ‘Stop FATCA Now’ on the back?
It could start some conversations!
: )
@Badger
I Want a t shirt too, maybe we can get the iron decals and be able to put on a shirt that fits us .
@Distressed,
We had to fight this from our home in Canada, but it can have positive effects for those against FATCA elsewhere. The principles are the same.
Defeating the FATCA IGA in Canada may assist or inspire other countries to take a sober second look at the legality/constitutionality of FATCA in their realm – for example, I don’t think that troubles are over for FATCA in the EU, despite IGAs. I hope that our Challenge will help to raise questions elsewhere in countries who have concerns about master nationality, discrimination on the basis of national origin/parentage/birthplace, and about data protection, data integrity, search and seizure, innocence before guilt, CBT as the ab/norm, the lack of US equivalent reciprocity http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2013/02/02/fatca-intergovernmental-agreement-iga-exposed-as-bad-deal-for-partner-countries-by-james-jatras/ (and still an open question whether possibly it was not even legal for the US Treasury and IRS to negotiate and agree to the IGAs – which Congress did not contemplate in FATCA http://www.lexisnexis.com/legalnewsroom/tax-law/b/fatcacentral/archive/2013/03/05/irs-brushes-aside-the-constitution-to-make-way-for-fatca.aspx – that issue and others (like the lawsuit by the Florida and Texas bankers) has still has not been confronted inside the US.
Good idea NorthernStar!
@DistressedAmerican,
Please don’t look at it that way. It is only natural that the fight has picked up the most steam in Canada, where the most ‘US persons’ live; it has been this way since the first few people got together and decided to create the Isaac Brock website a few years ago, and has progressed to the point we are at now. A win for Canadians with clinging US nationality, is a win for ALL persons negatively effected by FATCA.
Love the logo! It is very simple and says a lot. I know we are going to put a stop to this unfair taxation scheme. It’s great to have such a wonderful intelligent group to back the citizens of Canada. Little by little word is getting out. One day it will go viral. Great work everyone!
It is perfectly understandable that the challenge in Canada focuses on the issue in Canada. The challenge will go through Canadian courts after all. However, in my opinion, this is still of HUGE significance to the global fight against FATCA (and CBT) on behalf of all affected (er, that would be everyone…not just USP).
If this battle is won in Canada, it would be quite likely to set up a domino effect in other jurisdictions. Right now, there is only a critical mass of support in Canada (the 1 million + USP).
Non Canadian USP should not be put off contributing for these reasons. May I suggest that somewhere on the web pages, when they are available, or in the constitution (if there is one), this is explained so that persons outside Canada feel that it is worthwhile to contribute.
oops – just saw the separate thread on this very topic – you are one step ahead of me !
@Osgood,
We are trying to obtain quotes for our ADCS/ADSC website from people living outside Canada who are affected by FATCA. See:
I posted earlier and somehow it got deleted. Thanks for all the hard work on the logo and setting everything up. This is something to be proud of and definitely will be noticed by the entire world. Seeing this brings a smile to my face… thank you !
Thank you for the very good suggestion @osgood;

Great logo! And I love the T-shirt idea. What a great idea for a fundraiser! Personally, I’d also like buttons with my favourite slogan “CBT Ends With Me”.
@GwEvil – I’ve put this LOGO on a couple Kijiji ads (in Hamilton, Oakville & St. Catherines) drawing attention to FATCA arriving on Canada Day & listing a couple IBS website addresses for further info. Is it ok that I used the LOGO or should I take those off these ads?
@LM
I appreciate your intention however could you please replace the logo with another image. I have tons of no FATCA type graphics which I could send you.
Thanks for your kind efforts.
I would love to find a cartoonist who can draw a picture. The picture would show a monster”Harper” with a huge copy of the Charter, breaking it over the heads of Canadians saying “it’s over”
Cool. Thanks GwEvil.
GwEvil,
Very professional looking logo.
Thank you.
I guess other countries are out…
Great logo, simply elegant.

@NativeCanadian
Would that be a cartoon of Harper dreaming that?
