We accept free advertising like this from any concerned citizen who wants to try to make an impact. Thanks to the person who did this and sent me the graphics.

@Queenston, FATCA is a Jewish issue just as much as it is an aboriginal issue, a francophone issue, a Catholic issue, a retired person’s issue, a University professor’s issue. It belongs to Jewish people who will be hurt by it just as much as any other category of person.
@ Queenston
I agree. If our very just cause of challenging FATCA ever became hijacked by a small percentage of those who are affected by it, I would have to duck out of the fight. This is about ALL who are affected by CBT/FATCA/IGA and ALL who are being targeted because of a U.S. connection of some kind. Nobody needs to drag in other affiliations to “help”. They just need to stand with the group that we already are — people trying to redress an injustice. PERIOD.
There is enough FATCA/CBT harm for ALL.
I disagree. If even one special interest group complains hard enough and makes enough waves, such as aboriginals, francophones, retired persons or Jewish people, then it could create enough problems for the government that they relent. So it is in our interest to explain to all the different special interest groups why they should be as mad as hell at what is going on.
30-yr IRS vet once said that that the US wasn’t discriminating against Jews because it was even handed in the way it was destroying everyone. So it was ok for Obama to go after the money in Swiss banks that got away from Hitler. We need to challenge such a viewpoint.
@ Native Canadian
“With these information ads appearing in local places, should the Brock website have a place for people who just found out about Fatca?”
This has come up before … it has been attempted … everything just seems to get lost in the shuffle though. Maybe if the sidebar was labelled in big and bold print: FOR NEW ARRIVALS. It’s a good thought though.
I put together a page last year with updates – it’s in the sidebar List of Links by Subject – called “FATCA and Canada” with links to our threads, media articles, etc., with the thought it would be useful to newcomers. So, there’s that.
But if anyone can come up with a better package for Canadian newcomers or any newcomers – and I’m sure someone can — go for it!
@ pacifica777
The information is certainly all here. It’s just a matter of how do we get someone who is completely bewildered and in an OMG panic attack, directed immediately to what they need to learn first. I was lucky coming into Brock 2 years ago because I was able to go back and pick up the previous threads but now that would be impossible for a newbie. Maybe it’s just as simple as relabeling “FATCA and Canada” to “NEW ARRIVALS: Start Here” or something. BTW, it’s not a bad thing that Brock is so big now. It shows how badly needed it was. It’s just that I can easily get overwhelmed and I’ll bet there are people coming here who are like that too.
@all,
I put the links to the open letters published in the International Herald Tribune below merely as examples. The open letters just so happen to come from Jewish organizations, some of which use open letters to deliver their massages to the global audience.
My point has nothing to do with Jewishness, it is purely about getting our message out to the nations of the world:
“People living outside the United States who are identified as US Persons are being persecuted with CBT, Double Taxation, mind numbing Forms & Penalties, FBAR, FATCA, Exit Tax, Reed Amend, No Representation, No Public Goods or Services, etc. WE ARE BEING PERSECUTED AND NEED PROTECTION, NOT COMPLICITY AND COLLUSION!”
http://archive.adl.org/israel/israel_ad_041102.html
http://www4.dr-rath-foundation.org/open_letters/pdf-files/ol_2012-12-12.pdf
Perhaps a slightly better version for a message could be:
“WE ARE BEING PERSECUTED AND IN NEED OF PROTECTION, NOT COMPLICITY AND COLLUSION!”
On a related note, the 30-yr Vet Mopstick was dead wrong about the US was giving everyone the same treatment. US homelanders are not subjected to the same mistreatment as expats.
@EM
I don’t care how may special interest groups enter the fray as long as they have influence somehow. The more the merrier. I just happen to be Jewish (by race, Christian by faith) and know how extremely powerful the Jewish lobby is in Ottawa. Anyone with other ethnic affiliations should definitely use them to find an angle and get their respective groups to help smash this government and the banks. We need to get ALL Canadians so pissed off at Harper they won’t be able to sleep let alone live with themselves. This government needs to be undermined in any and all ways possible. We are in WAR and anyone is welcome to put their armor on and join. There are NO leaders in this movement and it must stay this way. This is not a traditional battle but more like this film Inglourious Basterds

@ ChearsBigEars
I am extremely aware of “how extremely powerful the Jewish lobby is in Ottawa” and that disturbs the hell out of me. I am not out to smash banks, government or anything else. I see a specific injustice and inequality and I simply want this problem addressed and resolved in order to prevent a lot of people being harmed. I don’t know if a charter challenge will be successful but it would be wrong (in my view) to not give it a try.
@Em “I am extremely aware of “how extremely powerful the Jewish lobby is in Ottawa” and that disturbs the hell out of me.’
I’m aware of how powerful Asian and south Asian communities in Canada are and that scares the hell out of me because they can contribute NOTHING to our cause. Tens of thousands of US Jews in Canada, No South Asians or Asians in Canada that are US persons as well, virtually none. That scares me.
