Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor, it must be demanded by the oppressed
~ Martin Luther King Jr.
Please help. Donate to the Canadian Charter Challenge Fund.
February 5, 2014 was the day we thought we would never see. It was the day the Canadian government announced it had caved to a foreign nation’s demands to invade our honest, law abiding lives as Canadian citizens and residents to seize our private and legal financial records. It was the day we learned the Canadian government considers us second class Canadians with limited rights under Canadian laws and Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Today is the day we begin our drive to fight back. February 28, 2014 is the day we launch our Canadian Charter Challenge Fund to raise money for a legal opinion from prominent constitutional lawyer, Joseph Arvay.
We must demand freedom. We must demand our government uphold our rights. We must demand the government place its citizens and residents over the demands of a foreign power.
We must demand our government place our rights over those of the bully oppressor. We must band together to fight for our cherished Canadian rights and freedoms. We must do it now.
Remember, the War of 1812 was not over until 1815. We should likewise expect our battle to be long, messy and expensive.

GwEvil, thank you for making this happen.
This has been a work of epic proportions for all concerned up to this moment. Now, come all Freedom Fighters, and join in the battle!
Well done to all who have worked so hard to set this up! The FAQ is clear and well thought out.
We Europeans will have the honor to be among the first to contribute.
Thank you! I just made a donation.
The website looks great (crisp and clean and easy to negotiate). Good work GwEvil. I’ll be mailing a cheque tomorrow, if we’re not snowbound again. Thank you to everyone who got this all together in less than a month from that dreadful day — Blaze, Dr. Kish, GwEvil, IRSCompliantForever, Tricia … who am I missing? I really feel we will make the March 21st deadline to raise the $18,500 needed for the opinion. I’ve decided to increase my donation to an even 3% ($555).
Fantastic teamwork. Although I am thousands of miles away currently I will be making my donation today. I am also ready to roll up my sleeves and work on any other tasks that arise out of this venture.
Thank you all who designed and now maintain this important work. My pledge (for this first phase) is completed.
I hope we soon go into the second phase of the actual Charter Challenge, when the hard drive for contributions go ahead to determine so-called US Persons will be protected by the same rights as any other in this country under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. That determination will be an example for other countries to stand up for and protect all of their people.
congradulations!!
but 2 remarks:
1. “American Bullies” i think is a little too imflamatory and generalizes all americans citizens – I think we need to add IRS to this phrase like “IRS Bullies” or even “American IRS Thugs” is more appropriate
2. what on earth is this horrendous Web site domain address: http://site345738.webydo.com/
i checked the following website domain addresses and they are all AVAILABLE:
stopfatca.com
savetheworldfromfatca.com
Libertyfromfatca
destroyfacta.com
libertyforcanada.com
protectcanadians.com
a web address helps in SEO (web site promotion) and is good for PR purposes
@ Lord Jim-yessir I am firing up the Paypal as I write! “Sterling work” ,
Brockers. do please let the Europeans know how we can help more……. perhaps some hints at this Sunday’s meeting in Euston????

I see Gwen is part, when I saw the person peering through the shades. This is great! Very unexpected organization but appropriate for Canada to defend for the war of 2014. Also a better website address is needed as noted by @billy.
Billy, America is known for its thugery, worldwide and at home, in the upper echelons of the corrupt financial world and in the streets where the knockout game is the order of the day. Sorry you are so pro American. America is a disease, a violent cancer that is corrupting the whole planet. They have declared war on us so we have no choice but to go to war with them as they have declared themselves our enemy. So act like it and don’t worry about inflaming people. We need attention and publicity in ANY way we can get it in order to get the controversy raging.
You should denounce them at every opportunity you have. I don’t care that there are good people down there if Canada doesn’t care if good Canadians lose their rights. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander they say. Political correctness will get us nowhere. Face it, we are in a war with the US and the civilized world depends on us to not be wimps and worry about what others think. Nobody here in their right mind wants to be identified as an American anymore. I didn’t know we are in a popularity contest. We are huge in numbers and more and more united everyday. If we can get the word out to over 4 million people in Canada to go on strike, stop consuming all but what is necessary maybe we can put so much pressure on Flaherty’s economy that we can force them to cancel this agreement and push the Obamanites, Levins and others back under the slimy rock they came from.
Either we have rights or we don’t and I don’t care who sympathizes with us or doesn’t. Political correctness is evil and a distraction in the face of tyranny
I just donated. Will there be any daily reporting, on the website or here at IBS, to show progress towards the fundraising goal??
Cheers big ears, Billy was trying to put a positive spin on things, the best is that a better website name is needed. Also Americans are totally jaded by anything Anti American. I have been traveling in Europe the last week and you would not believe the reactions of Americans in Europe against FATCA. It is against their country, not us. Americans overseas who live in the states are the rudest people.
I tossed my blue thing last sept but stuff like this keep on coming up. Can I never lose my nationality? http://www.ricksteves.com/press-room/ugly-american-sentiment-abroad
@billy, Well, if America doesn’t want to be characterized as bullies, they should elect a new kind of government. But that isn’t going to happen, so we end up painting the country with the same brush as its bad government, which isn’t exactly unfair, since over 50% of the people voted for the current President who then appointed the current Treasury Secretary, the current IRS commissioner (IRS being the political enforcement wing of the POTUS’s party), and the current Attorney General. Bully seems perfectly appropriate. May not play well with an American audience, to be sure. But most of us, including the author of this post, aren’t Americans in any case (GwEvil is just caught in the born in the USA category, which the USA bullies thinks leads to permanent slavery to the IRS).
If we cared what Americans think about such things, we would have changed the name of this website, since Isaac Brock is inflammatory. See my debate with James Fallows (of The Atlantic): http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2012/01/02/my-correspondence-with-james-fallows/
@Billy
@All those who worked so hard to make this happen
Really, fantastic job. Two comments that arise from @Billy
1. I disagree VERY strongly that there should be a reference to the IRS. They may or may not be bullies, but the problem here is the U.S. Congress!!! They made the law. The second problem is the willingness of Canada to agree to this. It’s important to keep this focused on the people responsible.
2. Agree with @Billy’s comments on the domain name.
Done.
Huffington has an article on how well USA is doing minimizing debt. A big contributing factor is tax collection.
Thank you GwEvil and crew.
Comments follow:
1. As said by others, a more memorable web site name would be helpful.
2. The blue box is a little cramped (at least in my copy of Firefox) and trims the edge of the letters of the bottom line of text and so does not let the word outrage stand clearly.
3. The statement “Yet, that is exactly what is happening to up to one million Canadians born in the United States.” is too limiting to just those who were born south of the border. In truth FATCA affects a far broader group including Canadian born descendents of Americans, Canadian born spouses of Americans, Green Card holders (whether or not they are residing in Canada again), Canadian born Snowbirds, Businesspeople, Shoppers who cumulatively spend (touch American soil) more than x (is it 60?) days per year south of the border, Canadians who own real estate, have telephones have addresses (even c/o addresses) and other indicia south of the border that the IRS will use to DEEM them to be US Persons. ALL Canadians are at risk due to FATCA and need to get stirred up … limiting the attention getting to just those BORN south of the Border addresses a large group but is cramping in its narrowness. Similarly, the accounts of Charities, Businesses or other Joint accounts on which any one of the signatories is a deemed US Person will require that account too to be reported to the IRS and Treasury department as if the account belonged solely to the said US Person. The site needs to be punchy … but somehow encompass the vast breadth of this horror that is FATCA and how it will affect ALL Canadians.
4. As an editorial comment, I suggest reversing the sequence of the following – “These Canadians need help in standing up to the Canadian government. Most of those affected are Canadians of moderate means.” which can be restated as “Most of those affected are Canadians of moderate financial means. These Canadians need help in standing up to the Canadian government.”
5. “US Treasury claims we and the nightmare they have foisted on our honest, law-abiding Canadian lives are a myth” I suggest that this be restated to “US Treasury claims that we (and the nightmare they have foisted on our honest, law-abiding Canadian lives) are a myth.”
6. In my Firefox, the last line of the FAQ is slightly cut off at the feet …. may need a little HTML adjustment there.
7. Need information on the bank account to enable electronic wire transfers from around the world including the name and address of the bank, the SWIFT code, the account number and the full name on the account and any other information that your bank may advise is necessary for them to receive wire transfers from outside Canada.
I hope that I have not been a bore in the foregoing. Just trying to help.
A final comment. I think that he web site should mention that should the Opinion be favorable then an additional appeal will be launched to raise money for the Constitutional challenge.
Everyone,
Thanks for the good thoughts.
Our hours have been a little strange lately and I believe that GwEvil, who knows about domains, will be sleeping for awhile more. We will try to change the domain name and attend to the other questions.
We can see the donations coming in (!) and will respond as quickly as we can to the emailed questions about payment.
It’s a good start. We have three weeks to do this.
Thanks IRSCompliant, Blaze, GWevil, and Trish for your combined efforts organizing CCF! I made my intial donation, and will also contribute to the charter challenge once it is a go.
Wow! More donations coming in.
YAY!
