@schubert, re; “[Canadian Bankers Association.] I can hardly wait for their PR spin doctors to try to weasel and squirm out of that again … love it!”
I noted that on Here and Now Marion Wrobel is beginning to add little bits of extra spin, but his biggest sin is the sin of omission. Lying by omission in this instance is just as much a deliberate and unforgiveable sin as outright lies.
We need to counter the CBA.
And where is the voice of the Credit Union movement in Canada as another voice?

One company banks will never invest in — a mattress company.
Kudos Gwen. I just called in to the show requesting an interview asap. Thanks, Mike.
Now, coverage on TV….
and this has a picture of someone browsing Isaac Brock. Maybe this needs its own post. So, FATCA hits all the media sources. Print, Radio, and TV. The 13th is turning out to be a good day…
Did you see it on that podcast somewhere? I couldn’t then I found out it was broadcast locally in Toronto. Gwen said she’d make a separate post of it soon. All the converge is getting confusing (not complaining!)
The CBC podcast with the interview of our Brockstar from Calgary starts at the 17:09 minute mark.
Great interview, “Gwen”. Thanks a lot! This insanity must stop!
NO TO FATCA!
It sounds like the Canadian government is simply saying that they can’t change an “American” law, so we’ll just throw them under the bus and save our banks. Hate to say it that way, but it sure seems to be that way if we read the writing on the wall. This needs a huge protest if we are to even begin to change their minds. The recent news reports are a helping hand, but this really needs a stronger message. I run into people every day, and I am not exaggerating in the least, that simply do not believe this can even happen. Most think it is not “their” problem. It was reported that Canadian interest rates will rise in the near future, why? Well to pay for fatca of course. Do they think we are that stupid? The US will have to take any of my income to pay their taxes from my cold dead hands!
The CBC Toronto TV interview with Gwen and Carol @ 14:50
New record number of hits today. Thanks everyone. Over 7300–maybe we will reach 8000 today.
Kudos and thank you to Gwen and Carol. I listened to the radio interviews as well as CBC news at 6. Great interviews.
Thanks so much, Carol and Gwen for the great interviews, for coming forward to shed much needed light on this!
Does anyone know of a link to CBC’s Here and Now (Toronto)’s Marion Wrobel, CBA, interview, specifically where one is able to post comments?
Marion Wrobel was interviewed by Gill Deacon on Here and Now this morning. Not sure if that interview was montaged into the New at Six broadcast — as Just Me said, “All the coverage is getting confusing (not complaining!).”
Reference the spike in hits, its presumably due to Isaac Brock Society and Maple Sandbox being specifically mentioned in the recent interviews and also the article about 3,100 plus renunciations which included a weblink to the IBS Consulate Report Directory.
With regards to this, perhaps its worth keeping in mind that Isaac Brock and Maple Sandbox should be mentioned by name in as many interviews and comments as possible.
Both sites, particularly this one, are full of real time substance on the main issues impacting long term American expats ie. CBT, FATCA, FuBAR, Reed Amendment, Expatriot Act, Renunciation/Relinquishment of US slavemanship etc, etc.
We need to keep the momentum going. Now is the time to hit the gas!
Thank you so much to all who have written so many great articles and given so many wonderful interviews over the past couple of years!
Thanks, Bubblebustin`, It leads me back to the page I was on with no place for comments, so perhaps that show just doesn`t take comments.

Super! Bravo Carol & Gwen!
I can’t remember who was asking whether it was the government of the banks who indicated they were “powerless.” John Lancaster said he had talked to gov officials today and it was they who said they were “powerless.”
Did anyone catch the comment at the tail end of the segment in the studio. In a statement the government said they were “powerless to change American law”.
@Marie
The media doesn’t always get things right and FATCA at best is confusing for anyone to understand. My guess is that they were referring to CBT. Regardless of whether it’s CBT or FATCA, it’s interesting that the Canadian government recognizes its limitations, unlike our bullies to the south.
Todays coverage on Mike Galloway…
IRS forgiving? Now we have a Tax practitioner telling us “you must comply” “Get in while the Getting is good! ”
Let the experts pump their information around the issues now coming to light. There’s no putting lipstick on the CBT pig. The annual cost to do a “simple” return (like for someone with no savings whatsoever) is $500, all to pay no tax (therefore provide no revenue to US coffers) and to limit our ability to live like normal people in the countries where we live? Sounds like the cost of renunciation for people who are in the simplest of situations is $3,450. BTW, the IRS has still not determined what constitutes “high risk”, leaving it up to the compliance industry to determine whether Streamlined is appropriate for you.
All in a sudden this deluge of media coverage about FATCA! It fun to have such a supportive community at IBS. @bb, for my returns which I have back-filed, I just make one out then update numbers for successive years. It only costs me some time, about 10 minutes per return. Time for IRS form 8854, I wonder if they have the new one for 2013. Twice since my renunciation I have been to USA (just in the past month; no further plans as I find US money to be rather gross looking and I hate pennies and dollar bills). No hassles at the border. When I flew to San Diego from YVR the border agent called out “please show your green card if you have one”. Yes they will go after people with green cards, even expired cards. I wish they would start to say “please have your CLN handy”.
