The Globe and Mail reports that the players at the current G20, when not posturing about the coming US war on Syria, have agreed to share tax information.
Why?
Well, we know why. Tax cheats! They are everywhere.
One positive in the article is that it mentioned FATCA and the privacy concerns Canada has about it.
@bubblebustin,
You have most definitely given me my chuckle for the week – ‘internment camps for USPs in Canada’!!!!
Bubblebustin and Just Me — thanks for the LOL’s!
Who knows, maybe we’re being thrown off — and the Canadian Flaherty announcement will take place in the trailer lot.
Internment camps was my idea!
@Joe Smith
Your youtube video never gets old.
Yes, Joe Smith. The Canadian government’s purchase of camping trailers bring us one step closer to the final solution.
My theory is there Flaherty will announce a new tax break for anyone buying an RV or camper trailer made in Canada or using Canadian spare parts (do we still make these things, or anything, in Canada any more?).
Sorry, but I can’t see Flaherty announcing an IGA in an RV sales lot. Doesn’t make sense, doesn’t fit with my perception of his self-esteem somehow.
Didn’t Trudeau take some sort of RV/campaign trip with his family this past summer? Maybe Harper and Flaherty are going to do something similar?
Steve I can see in a camper though. Not Flaherty. It doesn’t go with the image he has of himself and projects constantly.
Wow! Interesting. I can and will walk there from where I live, just up the street on Bank Street. LOL.
Did I mention I live in a trailer park? Rich tax evading US person that I am…lol. Too funny!
I wonder if its too short notice for me to get some placards ready for Monday? May as well take advantage of the situation.
Hmmm…. what can I write on them? How’s about: “Canada about to give away trailer park kids RESPs to Obama’….any other suggestions? Does Walmart sell materials for placards? If not, there is a Staples in South Keys Mall near Walmart on Bank St. Maybe I will have time tomorrow to go there and pick up supplies.
@WhiteKat
Then the internment camp won’t be such a transition for you!
BTW, some of the coolest people live in trailer parks π
@Atticus. If you are serious about going, you can park at my place, and we can go together! Do you live near Ottawa?
@ WhiteKat
For after the announcement, whatever it is …
Now what about FATCA?
Will we be camping under the stars
Or laying under a bus?
@bubblebustin,
Its funny because, my family and I lived in a lovely house in Brantford Ontario which would cost double here in Ottawa. Two years ago, my husband’s workplace in Brantford closed down and moved operations to the USA (naturally). We have no extended family in Brantford, so one day he said, ‘where should we go. there are no jobs here’. Off the top, I said, ‘how’s about Ottawa’. He looked on the internet, found a job opportunity here, applied for it and got it. The owner of the company he works for owns the ‘trailer park’ we live in now, and suggested we move temporarily until we bought a ‘real house’. A year and a half or so later, and we are still here and growing more fond of it every day. It is actually a house – not a trailer, with full basement and double garage, so we are not suffering. The wildlife is amazing with deer all around in the winter, and so many beautiful birds all year round. I have a feeling we will be staying a while, unless FATCA proves to be too much headache and we are forced to put our assets into a piece of real estate for protection.
@Em…Lol…Love that slogan!
I know we are joking and all, but maybe we really should think about this more. Is this just a funny coincidence, or is there an opportunity here?
I am busy with husband’s ‘Ride the Rideau for Cancer’ tomorrow, but have all day Sunday to spare.
@joe smith
My husband just saw your video. I haven’t heard him laugh that loud for awhile. Here’s a restaurant he went to on a recent trip to Montreal:

He was relieved to not have had to leave his highest bank balance with the tip.
@ WhiteKat
This is definitely an opportunity. Flaherty is about to land almost on your doorstep. It seems like kismet or something.
@Em LOL!
Seriously though….should I have a placard ready? Just in case the opportunity arises? I could hide it under my Walmart robe.
That’s it. I am going to be a one woman show on Monday. I will be the talk of the trailer park, and hubby wil have grounds for divorce, when I am through. Em, I am stealing your slogan!
What do I need to make a placard?
LOL … The IRS is up to it’s video shenanigans again. It’s so badly acted it’s painful.

Hmmm….what about a more subtle approach…like a stencilled tea-shirt instead of a placard? Maybe my 3 kids could take a day off school, and we could do up one for each.
Besides Em’s suggestion, how about:
‘Keep calm and FATCA’….like that one.
Other suggestions?
All I need to buy is a few white T’s and some markers.
I know you all think I am kidding, but I am not. Who is in??
White Kat,
I might be. It looks like Iβm off work Monday morning but Iβll know for sure Saturday
When Occupy was going on in Sept 2011 in Confederation Park, Ottawa, I took an apprx 2β x 3β sheet of white cardboard and painted STOP FATCA on both sides of it and people asked me “What’s FATCA?” So, if I can go to this event, Iβll rustle it up β or if anyone has any good slogan ideas, I’ll paint a new one β and bring a bunch of IsaacBrockSociety.ca business cards for people who are interested to learn more.
” CANADA- US IGA = NO PRIVACY”
“FATCA IS NOT JUST FATCATS”
“IGA = INDEPENDENCE GIVE AWAY”
NO to a FATCA IGA means YES for Canada’s sovereignty
Don’t put our privacy rights in coffins to fill US coffers
We want a full deal FATCA repeal meal not an IGA
Can’t think of any more right now. IGA = Independence Give Away — Good one, KalC.
