Here is the link to the CBC Radio (New Brunswick) of the interview with Profs. Russ Hunt and Marie Cashion:
They have asked for feedback:
infoam [at] fredericton [dot] cbc [dot] ca ; or talk back at 1-800-561-4222 (I don’t know if this number works outside of NB).
Lol. The lady in the interview: “I used to be so worried about giving up US citizenship, but now you can’t rid of it.” So true.

Here is my email feedback:
Thanks very much for this spot on the question of Americans abroad. As you said, as many as 1,000,000 Americans live in Canada. The Canadian media has talked about the absurdity of the extra-territorial tax reach of the United States. But to my knowledge, no one has talked about how this is a threat to Canada’s sovereignty and how it is incumbent upon the Canadian government to protect her citizens.
When I became a Canadian I swore as follows:
Now do I need to remind the government of Canada that it has a reciprocal responsibility to protect me from the threat of both domestic and foreign enemies? The United States has threatened me with fines of up to 383% of my financial wealth, all of which has been earned here in Canada, and I have already paid all my Canadian taxes owing, just as other law-abiding Canadian residents.
Our finance minister has promised protection. But our government needs to do more because the Americans living in Canada need more help in facing this threat.
I participate in a very active group blog called the Isaac Brock Society and I urge those of you in the media to have a look at our site. Many people are in fear and are losing their health over these threats. Isn’t it about time that the Canadian media did more to denounce the overreach of the IRS and help the Canadian government to protect our people?
Thanks,
Peter W. Dunn

@petros, I posted after you did and mine is up now.
Actually, I sent mine to the email address but it came back. I had trouble hearing the correct email address. May be someone can tell me where I went wrong. I did try to put up the comment at the CBC website but only after your comment.
Petros, Here might be another way to get in touch with them:
On this page http://www.cbc.ca/informationmorningfredericton/contact/ I found a link to the contact form for infoam “E-mail: Contact Information Morning Fredericton“.
Thank you to Marie Cashon and others who participated in this broadcast. I would note that I don’t think they mentioned FATCA and how the IRS is seeking to force Canadian financial institutions to report on accounts of “US persons”.
@northern, I mentioned FATCA in my comments π
@all- I also listened to the broadcast and made two comments but neither of the comments made it out of moderation. I was wondering how many other Brockers also attempted to post comments only to have them declined?
@bubblebustin- your comment was excellent. I am glad to see that one of us got through.
The area where I think that this interview fell short was in the failure of each of the guests speakers to address the onerous financial restrictions that are placed on the life of an expat. Like so many of the articles that have appeared of late, the focus was exclusively on the filing requirements. Now while the filing requirements are bad the problem in focusing so much on them is that in the mind of most people filing doesn’t not seem all that bad. The sad truth is that there is much more to this story than just filing. It is really hard to get people, including Finance Minister Flaherty, to understand just how pernecious of a problem this whole matter is.
My comment did not make it out of moderation. It probably violated their comment policy or something.

I see that comments have been closed on the CBC site and it appears that mine was the only one to pass through π I got a lot of ‘thumbs up’ tho!
