@a, re; ..”It’s interesting to me that the Liberals and the NDP don’t rake Harper more on his appeasement policy with the US given that there is a very palpable undercurrent of anti-US sentiment where overreach is concerned.
There is a long game being played that we aren’t privy to, imo”..

(Sorry I’m just responding now @a, but I do get lost sometimes in all the threads and can’t keep up with them.)
I think you’re right @a. Otherwise why the public silence of the Liberals, and the lack of any formal public position on FATCA and a FATCA IGA by Thomas Mulcair – particularly given the initial very strong statements by the BC caucus and the Hansard recorded questions by MP Mai?
Enough of us have e-mailed and written all the parties – so at least some of their MPs know about the December announcement by the Finance Dept. http://www.fin.gc.ca/treaties-conventions/notices/unitedstates-etatsunis-eng.asp
I am more and more disturbed that we have done a lot to educate and alert all 3 of the biggest parties in Canada but only the Greens have had the guts to mount an official FATCA position currently, and to issue a press release in response to the Finance Dept announcement. Although I don’t vote based on only one issue, that is definitely going to influence my vote in the future – and may be a deciding factor where positions on other pressing issues are similar.
