We’ve all heard about Shiprider and the expectation of US police on our soil. Here’s the latest from the CBC:

RCMP Supt. Warren Coons, director of the Integrated Border Enforcement Teams, stressed that the cross-designated American officers “have to be under the direction and control of a Canadian law enforcement officer” when the vessel crosses into Canadian waters. Similarly, Canadian officers are under the direction of the U.S. Coast Guard officer if they enter U.S. territory.

“Sovereignty is something I take very seriously, and I understand the concerns that Canadian citizens have, because quite frankly I had those same concerns, and so do the U.S. officers,” Coons said. “But having said that, safeguards are in place to ensure that U.S law enforcement officers are not allowed to conduct law enforcement activity in Canada unless they’re strictly under the direction and control of Canadian law enforcement officers.”

During a panel discussion on Tuesday’s NBC Today about philanthropist  Denise Rich renouncing her U.S. citizenship to reportedly avoid paying taxes,  advertising executive Donny Deutsch used the incident to proclaim: “We  are a country that is at class warfare now. It is reality. And this is the kind  of thing that if I’m home watching, I go, screw you, get out of my  country!”
NBC chief medical editor Nancy Snyderman had a  similar reaction as she denounced the ultimate sin for liberals, the wealthy not  paying enough taxes: “I think this is despicable. I have no – nothing but  contempt for Denise Rich trying to escape taxes….Anyone who turns down an  American citizenship, It’s crap….It’s crap, it’s absolute crap.”

Apparently according to a NBC News story by Andrea Mitchell Chuck Schumer is STILL trying to get his Ex-Patriot Act passed although he is starting to run out of time before the election.

 
The “us” at Brock are all individuals who have suffered the impact, directly or indirectly, of the peculiar United States attitude toward its own nonresident nonaliens, and especially the perverse contortions of that attitude since 9/11.

That is going only by the Brock tag line. We attract some resident aliens, and various others as well.

The main “them” is the unsympathetic homelanders, above all those with power: the ones who manufacture a morass of so-called law; and the ones who enforce it, through taxation — the IRS, and through citizenship — Dept. of State.

A big part of our special agony is self-division. Each of us is also them, even after concluding the formalities of severing citizenship and filing the final paper. For those who stop short of that clear divorce, the duality is likely to fester, and to become ever more agonizing in times that will not even be “semi good.”

In January the Isaac Brock Society commented on the question: Has your life been stolen from you by the IRS? That post generated a lot of comments. We are now one year into the IRS attack on U.S. citizens abroad.

In my post, directed to Joe Green, I commented that:

I venture to say that many U.S. citizens abroad are not even the same people they were a year ago.
