Media and Blog Articles – Part 1 of 11 (to 26 May 2015)

EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.

while the emails of Lerner that may have made way to WH are pre-FATCA, here’s another possible effect of privacy violation…..

“The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration has confirmed that, on top of the backed-up email horde, there are also nearly 2,500 documents relating to investigations of the improper disclosure of confidential taxpayer information by the IRS to the White House. Yes, the White House.
Why should the White House be getting confidential taxpayer information? That is a good question.”

I think the big issue with FATCA is that it is the US government taking money from other countries economies to pay off THIER debt. Money earned in a country should stay in that country to benefit their economy. We are talking about billions of dollars the IRS has extorted from other countries yes even third world countries. This issue needs to go wider than just the expat US citizens it is a global rort.
London mayor’s unpaid tax bill shows why some people don’t want to be Americans anymore

@ Trish –
I would laugh if it weren’t so frightening. While not directly related to the IGA and constitutional challenge, I do think Mr. Arvey should be made aware of this (and various other not documented identity theft) risks of having Canadian’s financial information sent over to the IRS – – it may be a range of points worth exploring when cross examining tax experts.

Darn, need to subscribe to see entire “Crikey” SundayTimes article or comments…… Anyone have an alternate route?
A repeat of the recent Washington Post article but, now at the National Post, a new chance to comment:

@LM, I believe that this link will work:
http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/business/money/Tax/article1489456.ece
@GwEvil,
Not for me.
@GwEvil & @Neill
Nor for me – – still only the first 3 paragraphs then fade out unless you subscribe. 🙁
@LM & Neill
Try going to google news. I can usually get in that way.
I tried that, Tricia. It didn’t work for me this time.
Worked for me. http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/11/29/london-mayors-irs-bill-shows-the-absurdity-of-the-u-s-tax-system/#__federated=1
JC,
That one works for me as well. I was referring to (and thought others were): http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/business/money/Tax/article1489456.ece, Crikey! American tax grab is outrageous.
I wasn’t paying attention in 2007. How about you? http://www.ctvnews.ca/tories-blasted-for-handbook-on-paralyzing-parliament-1.241797#ixzz3KZyC9RKg

@Calgary411 –
And the beat goes on…..
@Calgary
I couldn’t get it either. Someone sent it to me and I just copied/pasted before leaving for the day. 🙁
I need some help over at the National Post! Can one of you smart Brockers respond to Thunderbold’s response to me: (He has pushed me into a corner that I do not have the intellectual capacity to answer. I think it is important and hits at the crux of the problem).
PLEASE respond to his comment starting with:
“i am not aware of what is going beyond the scenes. The EU which has far greater politically/economic clout than Canada and also has the world’s second most relevant currency also is too dependent on US $ trade flows, this will not change for decades and I will tell you why………”
@ Charl
The US today is much like the British Empire after WWI, the most powerful country largest military
and the reference currency for international trade and also bankrupt; unlike today countries were not actively trying to work around the pound. it was only after WWII that countries replaced the pound with the USD.
The BRIC countries, Europe, the pacific rim and other nations are signing swap agreements to bypass the USD. The Remimbi was used for less than 1.5% of trade last year, but the use will likely increase exponentially 1.5%. then 3% year, 6% the year after that. The increased use of the Chinese and other
currencies will cause the end of USD dominance in less than a decade
And more recently in Canada, Patricia:

So you get let in if your still talking to the avoidance of fines. Reviewed monthly:
