EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.

If you Canadians stopped sheltering all that untaxed wealth up there Obama would let you have that pipeline.

Robert Wood : London Mayor Boris Johnson Politely Gives IRS The Finger
http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertwood/2014/11/20/london-mayor-boris-johnson-politely-gives-irs-the-finger/
@JC
I tried to comment to Woods- but I can`t get onto the site. Could somebody PLEASE comment on his reply that it would be “FUN” to litigate for Boris? FUN for who???? That make me SO ANGRY. There is such total lack of sympathy for the victims of CBT that it is just mind-boggling. Yes- Boris Johnson is also a victim of FATCA. He is not a FATCAT to be fleeced.
You’re right on the money with your comment, Polly. Boris Johnson is as much a victim as any of us — and he’s now really in the spotlight. Fun? — there is no humour in any of this! BJ did place himself squarely there though and brings attention to the subject that many of us have been unable to. Similar but different for those who skewered Eduardo Saverin, someone who seems to have followed the rules for his expatriation, many understand only the terms “tax evader” and “traitor” and “pay your fair share” — that’s the end of the story for them.

Here’s an interesting chat between Jim Goddard and Martin Armstrong about Obama’s stealth plan to regulate the content of the internet under the the guise of the sweet sounding “net neutrality” meme. Towards the end Martin brings up FATCA. Comments are open.

OutragedCanadian at the Maple Sandbox managed to find an article in NOVORUSSIO NEWS about “the FATCA”. It’s written in English but you can comment in Russian if you like. The author of this piece (V. Katasonov, Ph D., the Chairman of the S.F.Sharapov Russian Economic Society) certainly has a good understanding of the USA’s true motives.

I think it is worthwhile for IBS to point out that this is the first time FT is making a serious attempt to address this issue.
Democrats abroad roll out the ‘FATCA is great’ article:

I love how they are saying that the reason they aren’t in the CRS treaties is because it’s a lengthy process in the US. OF course all the IGA are treaties and they banged them out pretty quickly.
We can tell that reciprocity is never their plan because if it was they would have exempted a bunch of US accounts in the same way as countries actually subject to FATCA did. All 401k plans, IRAs, HSA’s, 529’s etc would have to be reported. We would spare there financial institutions the burden if we ever expected to have to report data. It’s going to be bad if we report.
Another push to say they are for same country exception:

Won’t help US immigrants who have money trapped abroad. These though are most certainly the ‘wrong kind’ of immigrants.
@Neill
Technically, they are sole executive agreements, so they won’t be binding on the next president, unlike a treaty would. I haven’t seen any evidence that the U.S. plans on becoming part of the AEOI (otherwise known as GATCA). The Republicans will just provide some nice, convenient cover for Democratic inaction in this area. Cynical ploy.
For anyone interested in articles about loss of Canadian sovereignty, older, from 2012. And, is there AGAIN reciprocity?:

I just went to that article and made a comment about FATCA there. Another chance to raise awareness of the debacle that is this government and how they are ruining our country.

@ Calgary411
FYI – That “Action Plan” document re “Beyond the Border” is out of date… apparently BoB is going nowhere at a stately pace…
From: “Obama, Harper don’t like each other, and only a new leader can thaw relations”
JOHN IBBITSON
The Globe and Mail
Published Friday, Nov. 21 2014, 11:20 AM EST
“Beyond the Border turned out to exist mostly on paper, because the Americans were too broke to pay their share of the infrastructure costs.”
And this is from http://www.beyondtheborderobserver.org – a blog tracking the “progress” of BoB:
“Key BtB & RCC Stakeholder Press for Further Progress from Canada and the United States
October 20, 2014”
“Two articles over the weekend highlight cross-border stakeholders’ frustration with progress on the Regulatory Cooperation Council (RCC) and the Beyond the Border (BtB) Action Plan.”Steve Mertl‘s Friday article for the Daily Brew emphasizes the lack of urgency from the United States, which is understandably must jostle competing important national priorities. Chatting with cross-border stakeholders ranging from Queen’s University professor Christian Leuprecht to the Woodrow Wilson Center’s Canada Institute associate Andrew Finn, Mertl concludes that–whatever the deficits in American attention–Canada must push forward on BtB initiatives for there to be any hope for the initiative’s lasting success. ”
The mandate of http://www.beyondtheborderobserver is:
“The Canada Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars launched a major initiative to measure the progress of the “Beyond the Border” agreement unveiled by President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The Wilson Center program will provide outreach to key stakeholders, build a united cross-border consensus in favor of continued progress, and provide evidence-based research that initial efforts are paying off.”
My basic impression is not a lot of material impact is going on – the last news article posted is from June 17, 2013.
