Media and Blog Articles – Part 1 of 11 (to 26 May 2015)

EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.

@Watcher
This article clearly states what we have all been saying in comments for eons now. Just maybe this is the culmination of our efforts and indeed manifests that commenting has some value?
I can’t wait for what Jupitron has to say about this one! Looks like this rainy gloomy Friday might get interesting.
@Charl, Yes some of it looked almost like copy/pastes of comments I’ve seen by Brockers.
@Watcher
Keith Redmond’s commentary is in direct response to yesterday’s CNBC article, http://www.cnbc.com/id/102129478
“Is giving up citizenship…un-American?”
Author and managing editor for CNBC.com Allen Wastler has been very responsive to email and tweets criticizing his article.
Keith Redmond: Here. I like this one better than from Forbes.
http://www.cnbc.com/id/102141113
Pastbeyond60 & WhiteKat, I need to catch my breath after reading all the comments. It always seems like one or two who oppose. Do they work for the IRS?
Maybe get some quotes from the Wall Street Journal, Democrats Abroad research and http://www.fatcalegalaction.com. Are these naysayers more authoritative than The Wall Street Journal for instance. I believe Constitutional rights violated is another good one, so says http://www.fatcalegalaction.com
@JC
Man-o-man….they were flying fast and furious initially on the latest CNBC article. My brain was going tilt! There always seem to be one or two complete morons but they are great to bounce off of. When no morons show up the comment numbers are often low. My mind has come around to welcoming them. In this particular case they just validated the point of the article. FABULOUS!
What I find most interesting is the debate is often at a very low intellectual level. Where are the smart folks wishing to debate this issue? Maybe they are smart enough to understand they have no rational position to argue from? Yes, I must compile a “go to” list of quotes. It seems I’m always scrambling and reactive.
Why is the word manifests blue and underlined in my comment above? I am afraid to click on it!
charl,
It doesn’t show that way on my computer nor when I go into edit your comment. Perhaps someone has already fixed it?
The US has tried to deal with this problem [ta haven] by passing the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) in 2010 (it was not enacted into law until July, 1, 2014), but US politics only allowed the law to apply to individuals, not corporations, which are responsible for the largest part of that hidden money.
“A US citizen has to declare anything over US$50,000 held outside the US. At the same time Google paid 1/16 of one percent on US$37 billion last year in taxes. It doesn’t seem to make sense.”

It’s not a media article per se, but it is a public message board of the St. Louis (Missouri) Post-Dispatch, and there is a lot of traffic. Go to
http://interact.stltoday.com/forums/
and visit the CURRENT EVENTS section, where you can post a story about FATCA and watch the debate unfold.
@Charl
This is really complicated and that Indian article was not clearly written. Hang in there.
@EmBee
Your recent response to American Overseas in the CNBC article was BRILLIANT. You sure have a way with words. At this point I think we are writing to the journalist which this article demonstrates has great value. He pretty much pasted Brocker’s previous comments as the Kat pointed out. If he uses AO’s, also brilliant, and yours for his next article we will be on a nice roll!

25th Anniversary of Berlin Wall Fall – this November 9.
Of course US Treasury now has built a Financial Berlin Wall to keep US citizens in.

@ charl
Keith Redmond just tweeted the American Overseas “10 facts” comment. That comment is a keeper for sure. It had to be hard to keep the list down to ten though.
@EmBee
I think Keith is my new most favourite person! That also means he IS reading the comments. Lets cross all of our paws that AO’s facts list and your response is the next article he writes on the subject. Inch by bloody inch…..
@ Tom
Ok, I went to the St. Louis Post Dispatch as you suggested and found the following post from earlier today:
http://interact.stltoday.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1073100 (14 Facts About The Obama Presidency Most People Don’t Know).
Thought, gee, this is certainly an opportunity for some of our great IBS commentators to shake things up a bit in middle America (adding 14 MORE things about Obama that most people don’t know). May the articulate ones have a field day…….. 🙂

“Greed reason many renounce citizenship”
Clueless.
Here’s a new one:

Those GREEDY US expats!
http://www.guampdn.com/article/20141104/OPINION02/311040014/Greed-reason-many-renounce-citizenship
ooops. I see Watcher already posted a link to the same ‘greedy’ article.
@ WhiteKat & Watcher Not many comments but there seem to be some intelligent people disagreeing with the article.
Here’s another:
