EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.

Yahoo Canada is now picking up on this 5.5 million Americans considering renouncing figure – a better figure than the lagging and doctored numbers from the US of those who gave up citizenship.

73% of US citizens living abroad have considered ditching US citizenship because of #FATCA https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/bulk-americans-abroad-want-ditch-passport-004922941.html
For all you prolific commenters (and you know who you are) who might feel like no one is listening, a new CNBC new article, ‘Is giving up American citizenship un-American?’ just released a couple hours ago has around 30 comments so far, none of whom appear to be from Brockers (at least I do not recognize the aliases), yet MOST of the comments are anti-FATCA!
For example, James writes: “Having read the often passionate comments, it is clear that a better understanding of the details would help citizens living and working in the U.S. to understand what their fellow countrymen are trying to work through.”
ooops. It was RGreens who made the above comment.
@ Whitekat
Do you have a link to the CNBC article? It sounds interesting.
http://www.cnbc.com/id/102129478
It’s a really crappy article. It’s really just an opinion and not a very well thought out one. The gist is “of course it’s un -American”
@Sasha, Sorry, I forgot to post the link: http://www.cnbc.com/id/102129478
@Duke, its not the article that is worth reading, its the comments. For those of us who have been commenting all over the internet for months and even years now being told ‘good riddance’, called ‘tax cheats’ etc, it is encouraging to get positive feedback for a change, even with a subpar article, especially from people who appear to be homeland Americans.
Many U.S. Expats Have Mulled Dumping Citizenship Over FATCA

From the same CNBC article referenced above, here is a fellow Canadian (non US person) that gets it:
Mark says:
I’m a Canadian who at various times has lived in 3 other countries namely Australia, New Zealand, and England. When living and working in those countries, I paid taxes to their governments but I did NOT pay taxes to my native Canada as as far as Canada is concerned, if I live overseas then I do not have to pay taxes to Canada because I receive NO benefits from Canada when living overseas. That is how it should be and how almost ALL countries in the world treat their citizens after they have left their country.
Because I was not taxed by Canada as well as the country I was living in, I never once considered giving up my Canadian citizenship. I’m proud of it and glad I still have it.
There is ONLY one major country in the world that does not take this position and who insists that their overseas citizens not only pay tax to the country they live in but to their native country as well. The United States of America.
Given the unreasonable attitude of the American government on this issue, is it any wonder that Americans who move overseas turn their back on the USA. I think not. The only wonder is that more Americans don’t renounce their American citizenship once they have left the States.
Why don’t more renounce? Because they have to pay a very large fee to do so (most other countries allow their citizens to renounce their citizenship with the filing of a simple letter or form and usually at no cost) AND they are now required to attend an interview at the American embassy (which could be hundreds of miles away from where they live) at which they are subjected to intense pressure NOT to renounce their citizenship (in order that the American government can continue to collect taxes from them no doubt).
Shame on the USA.
@WhiteKat. Having trouble with that CNBC link even when I tried to look the article up directly through Google.
@JC, that is strange. Just now, I tried googling just the title, ‘Is giving up us citizenship unamerican’ and got in with no problem.
@ WhiteKat I had no trouble with your link. Your comments to the article are excellent and detail the issues well. It does seem that more and more people are “getting it”. I wish the US government would “get it”. Not likely.
@heartsick, Thanks. The powers that be have GOT TO BE noticing the backlash and trending shift in popular opinion, and if they were smart would suck it up now, while they still can. The longer they take to acknowledge their ‘mistake’, the more sinister they reveal themselves to be.

No matter what I try, I cannot get into that globe article to comment (keeps asking me to subscribe).

Willie the Shake Speare says:
“Many up-votes for you. I wish the US government will allow persons residing abroad to both:
(a) keep their US Citizenship, and
(b) check out of the US Tax system, thus not requiring any filing of any kind. “
From the Desk of John Richardson : Shows for any US persons abroad that ADCS is an immensely worthy cause to donate to: ADCS now says the big fee increase for renouncing is not according to US law:

Has anybody else noticed that there are a lot of pro-democratic messages on CNN lately? There was just a report on tax evasion and how billionaires have doubled since the financial crisis. It was all about closing the tax loopholes and less about taxing the billionaires more in America, although that was mentioned too. It also said that the hidden monies could save 23 million lives if used for medical care. I fear that the tax loophole part just incenses the homelanders more.
And Germany just had a program on TV the other night which pitied Obama because of his adversaries which make him impotent, and said that America is stiil the greatest nation on earth. It listed what America was number one at- many many things- but most of all its military, but it did so with a positive stance. It said that America was still the number one economy ( maybe the film was made before the new statistics came out about China?).
So has anybody else noticed anything in the media of TV like this: a pro-America trend? Like somebody is trying to better the image of America and Obama?
@WhiteKat; you mean someone was talking sense.!! 🙂 🙂
Like the US should treat anyone they consider a citizen well like the rest of the G-20 and all OECD states?
