EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.

Commenting is closed on the CBC article — missed my chance by 1 hour. I would have said something like …
Oh happy day if one day in the hopefully near future the Supreme Court of Canada would strike down the Harper government’s attempt to implement the US FATCA law in Canada. Hidden in the recent omnibus bill (C-31) FATCA is poised to degrade Canada’s sovereignty and strip privacy rights away from Canadian citizens and residents. The wheels are already in motion to challenge this stealth legislation by virtue of the protections afforded by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
I really have to back away from this computer. I’m being a manic opinionator today.
Here is a new version of the typical homelander response to my comment at WaPo….”Either shut up or squeal like you like it slave!”! Sweet huh. Only makes us look better I reckon. Boy, they wonder why people renounce (wish I could afford it), who would want to be part of that bunch anyway. I do believe they are collectively losing their minds.
I must say, there is a silver lining for me in all of this. I now truly understand what it is to suffer discrimination. Some of the comments on the US sites are unbelievable. Yes, I have felt it in a minimal way being a female of a certain age but certainly not to the extent many of the typically targeted groups have suffered.

is commenting really worth it?

A blog site I hadn’t seen before (from Hong Kong): http://fatca-shame.com/
Great visuals and links to lots of articles/sites; not certain how up to date it is but sure is eye-catching.

IMHO: IBS should strongly consider some broad cross-posting with “Fatca-shame.com” and as many other blog sites as possible (such as “Repeal FATCA”) to make sure as many people as possible, from all over the world, know about the Charter Challenge and where to send money for this legal effort.
Thanks, LM. Interesting site and good ideas you have. James Jatras, http://www.repealfatca.com/, comments and contributes online and offline. We are fortunate to have his participation.
That’s an interesting blog out of Hong Kong, LM. They admit to not being all that proficient in English – I wonder if they meant FATCA-Sham, not Shame?
@bubblebustin
Oh how I wish it were SHAM rather than SHAME. If it were SHAM then maybe we could all relax and know that it would eventually go away (SIGH……)
Does anyone out there have what they think is a complete list of useful-to-connect-with blog sites that we could post on when the Charter Challenge gets fully up and running? We should start to build an immediate-draw-upon/avoid-duplication list of where else we might publicize this (which journalists, bloggers, web-news-sites, TV&radio reporters, other ideas??????) Best to be prepared and coordinated and not have this info scattered between +++ individuals who don’t know what others know (if you get my drift)…… 🙂
The new Russia sanctions: Stalled tax talks: The U.S. may have discovered a new secret weapon against Russia.
A quiet round of what some call unofficial sanctions are about to be lobbed on Russian banks, sending them reeling as President Barack Obama and top lawmakers this week discuss another sanctions round.

I am so appreciative of this site and the dedicated people who make it work. I am a daily visitor to the site and find much support in it. I am one of the seemingly rare Permanent Residents who for various reasons never took out Canadian citizenship but have made this country home (36 years). I am a deer caught in the headlights! I will support the Charter Challenge with a cheque when it gets rolling. Thanks to so many brilliant contributors to this site! I might have entered the OVDP without you and if I’m screwed anyway at least I’ll be in good company!
@Lake Superior Guy – it’s good to know that you are out there rooting for, and supporting, the cause!
Well, the Isaac Brock Society got what is (as far as I know) our first press hit in a South Korean newspaper:
http://biz.heraldcorp.com/view.php?ud=20140428000292
Too bad the article has nothing to do with the issues we usually focus on here, they’re just quoting from that post a couple of years ago comparing renunciation rates in different countries.

… and time to take a closer took at India. This and the a over referenced article cum discussion merit an IBS Posting in itself.

Opportunity to make connections to FATCA likelly unconstitutional as well – and noting that FATCA as implemented in Canada would create a second class citizenship – and discriminate on basis of national origin and parentage.
Also, could note that the Bar Association needs to comment on FATCA too.

Interesting article about how FATCA raises concerns about American’s safety in the Middle East:
“More pressing in the immediate term is the issue of privacy and the safety of American citizens. “One thing the Treasury has not thought about is how do you protect US citizens? In a country like Lebanon, with Hezbollah and other US designated terrorist organizations, banks will identify US citizens, which could put them at risk,” said the BDL source.”
Also quotes Jim Jatras.

An American reporter who works for European Voice newspaper in Brussels just tweeted that DeutscheBank Belgium is expelling all U.S. citizen customers

A letter to the editor at The China Post re: ” FATCA to have negative impact on global economy, violates existing pacts”

To add to Eric’s comment, the WSJ published an article today called “Deutsche Bank Asks U.S. Clients in Belgium to Close Accounts”. It’s reasoning sounds like an excuse to toss out USPs. See last two paragraphs of this excerpt:
“In a letter seen by The Wall Street Journal, Germany’s largest bank asked its U.S. customers to provide an alternative bank account where Deutsche Bank could transfer their assets by June 10.
The bank said it regrets having to terminate client relationships in what it called a consequence of the U.S. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act. The act requires businesses to report all assets held by Americans. It is aimed at tracking down tax cheats that have cost the country billions of dollars.
In principle, Deutsche Bank would be able to continue to serve U.S. clients in its branches. However, the bank said in its letter that because “it is no longer allowed to use Internet, email, phone or fax to serve retail clients” who are U.S. taxpayers with accounts in European branches, a business relationship is untenable in countries where it has only a limited number of branches.
Deutsche Bank is organized in Belgium in a way that compels clients to use online banking and call centers for their daily banking needs since it has only 34 branches in the country, bank spokesman Hans Marien said.”
The ethnic cleansing of Americans from European banks continues.

Someone should tell Mythter Stack.
US Treasury and the mythical Bob Stack blinked today, “U.S. Treasury gives relief to banks for anti-tax evasion law”:
