Media and Blog Articles – Part 1 of 11 (to 26 May 2015)

EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.

Interesting article…
http://rt.com/business/250497-obama-economy-china-trade/
@ US_Foreign_Person Who appointed Obama King of the World? Amazing that he thinks only the US should “write the laws of global economy”. No respect at all for any other nation in the world.
@heartsick
Its something I wonder about also… how about these fines for foreign banks who do business legally in their home country but is fined like crazy by the US even though business was not done on US soil…. that makes no sense to me… Did u notice the countries that got fined were the ones who also joined the AIIB bank… what next… will they fine the credit card firms because a terrorist used a credit card to buy the bomb parts?
@US_Foreign_Person I was stunned by the fines, the US only got away with it because they control the reserve currency. The US is definitely trying to control the world by dictating who each country can do business with. I do not think it is a coincidence that these countries have signed up with China. Very disappointing that Canada did not join, Harper is probably still hoping for the Keystone pipeline approval and does not want to rock the boat. As John Richardson has pointed out, the US and only the US can change their definition of who is a “US Person” anytime and countries signing the IGAs for FATCA actually agreed to this. They are trusting that the US will not abuse this but I have my doubts.
I read somewhere the other day that Harper said he was contemplating Canada joining the AIIB. Should have kept the article!
Or, a spokesperson: http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/media-and-blog-articles-open-for-comments/comment-page-136/#comment-5863812 / http://www.embassynews.ca/opinion/2015/03/30/why-canada-must-be-part-of-the-aiib/46899
Thank you Calgary, but it was in the last couple of days.
Thanks — hope we can find it.
Do we have this one: http://wuwf.org/post/new-asian-development-bank-seen-sign-chinas-growing-influence
Maybe I dreamed it, because I can’t find anything on the Internet!
@ Bubblebustin I read about it too, you were not dreaming. Just can’t remember where. Someone will find it. It stated that Canada was considering joining.
I found this about Canada and the AIIB
http://business.financialpost.com/news/economy/canada-reveals-its-actively-considering-joining-china-led-asian-bank-aiib
Here’s another one saying basically the same thing regarding Canada and the AIIB It is not official, a senior Finance official refused to be quoted. There are lots of news articles about why Canada should join.

@Bubblebustin
Read an article on that… to me… doesn’t really mean anything unless its a done deal…. the info could have come from anyone… Since Canada is a clearing house for the chinese money… I think… it would make sense to join…. more business opportunites for canadians… its bad enough… as a US taint… the doors are being slammed shut… unwanted partner… no bank will touch u… how are u suppose to build a business?

That may very well be the article, badger. Thanks everyone. Maybe I was just dreaming about Harper talking about it.
Lessons Learned on The article about Ruth Freeborn:
http://reason.com/blog/2015/04/16/fatca-victim-on-renouncing-citizenship-i
1) We need to get in early on the comments – The horse kind of bolted on that one, with an unfriendly format showing the oldest comments at the top of the page, instead of showing the newest comments.
2) Ruth Freeborn could have helped by tipping us off early.
3) While there has been talk of an IBS Swat squad, the squad is thin on the ground. If a few prominent members such as @Charl are out and about the points don’t get landed.
4) If others don’t want to make their comments they may copy and save comments they like from others then just paste them in with slight modification when a new article comes out.
5) I advise to be mindful that we should try to channel persons to the IBS website to grow our community, and to bring more attention to the ADCS legal action to help with donations.
I am not sure Ruth should have mentioned that she wants her citizenship back – perhaps better left unsaid. Overall, the author was not favourable pointing out reasons for Ruth’s renunciation in the comment section rather than in the story itself.
Why FATCA Is a Train Wreck Waiting to Happen

@JC GREAT COMMENT on The Burning Platform!!!! May I copy and paste on FB sites unless you have started posting there?
Yes, thanks, badger. Here’s another one regarding agreements (TPP) in the news: http://www.ctvnews.ca/business/ottawa-eyes-u-s-congress-in-tpp-trade-negotiations-1.2333578
We can all exercise our thumbs on the Burning Platform — no sign-in needed. The gravatars there are strange little aliens. I’d say we are all alienated now, thanks to bizarre US tax code. Anyway I hope Mark Nestmann has it right with his nail in the coffin and train wreck analogies.
Rand Paul insinuated something about a secret scandal concerning the Clinton Foundation that will ruin Hillary`s chances at the presidency. But he wont say what it is- only that it will come out in the coming weeks. Anybody heard of this or has any guesses?
@Polly
I’ve heard chatter that there are issues regarding some nefarious donors to the foundation.
@Charl
What could that mean? What could be “wrong” with their donors?
