EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.

“But traditional collection methods don’t always work. In a recent study, we used another strategy that got results: publicly shaming tax delinquents. It should be a key part of government efforts to increase the collection of tax debts, and thanks to the Internet and social media, the government has the means to make it even more effective.
PUBLIC SHAMING is already used throughout the world to collect taxes.”
Ah, it’s so nice to feel wanted here in Asia. And I mean wanted as in “Wanted” poster:

IRS “Criminal Investigation has Country Attachés stationed in Frankfurt, Mexico City, Bogota, Hong Kong, London and Ottawa.”

@Barbara
Asian countries are on the hit list… lots & lots of money flow in & out… Oriental customs are to save & invest… even that grandma on the street that looks like she is poor …. could be worth millions… elders don’t like to show or discuss their wealth… only the new generation likes to flaunt it all… even if they don’t have…
Now that China is setting up AIIB…. US is out for blood… cause good old scare tactics didn’t work
You can find (at least some of) the IRS guys stationed overseas listed in the State Department’s phone directory, though that doesn’t distinguish between Criminal Investigation attachés and people from other divisions:

The CI attaché in Hong Kong is William Cheung (張華南). Back about five years ago one of our legislators made a not-so-thinly-veiled suggestion to expel him, but sadly it didn’t go anywhere

Interesting… This article in French says that the FATCA data was transferred March 31st. “Alors que les premiers reportings FATCA ont été remis le 31 mars”.
I thought that they weren’t due till much later. Can Joseph Arvay confirm?
Also, what prevents the Canadian government to send the data earlier rather than later and screw everyone on this, before the lawyer has the time to prevent this from happening?

@JC,
Wow. Very good video.
Very good, yes — but 2 minutes and 39 seconds just can’t tell the story. Putting myself in the shoes of someone who didn’t know anything about this, I wanted to hear more from this person. Hopefully, so the listener will eventually learn more, the sound bite will plant a seed of interest for the next time s/he hears *FATCA* or *US citizen abroad*. (Isn’t that how *pay your fair share*, *traitor* and *tax evader* became over-used?)

Features Ruth Freeborn who has spoken out on numerous occasions about the injustices. 238 comments on that one.
Warning, regarding the article that outlines Ruth Freeborns experiences, the comments might offend some people.
@ Dreamer You have that right, many of the comments are just plain ignorant.
Heartsick, there are some good ones though.

“Ruth,
I am embarrassed that my government is oppressing you to the extent of getting you to renounce your American citizenship.
It’s bad enough that my government tries to reduce freedom within U.S. borders, but to extend its tentacles into other nations, blackening our name abroad and tainting me by implication.
I’m proud to be an American, and because of that I’m against my government. You should know that there are plenty of people who think like I do – we can only hope we pick up enough support to elect a better class of politician to office.
Until then, you have my sympathies.”

There was a few good replies… majority of the answers made me feel like I lost a few numbers in my IQ… to be honest… I can’t afford to lose anymore… got to keep ahead of my evil spawns… they think they are slick… not really… been there… done that myself…
@calgary411
Good job of keeping your point… too bad too many were more interested in spewing their nonsense…
I am not the subject of this article, US_Foreign_Person. It is another Brocker who was brave enough to show her face in her brilliant video testimony that went to the Senate Finance Committee as part of the Richardson-Kish submission.
@calgary411
Thank u for pointing this out… I was trying to read as many of the mbs here to try to catch up…. sorry about that…
BIG mistake not to have Ruth explain why in the article. I scrolled down for half an hour trying to find her explanation and couldn’t find it. Most people are not going to go looking for her explanation. It should have been up there in the article for all to read. Instead- it has given the audience a huge room to attack her and the undefined premiss- and thats a real shame.
