Media and Blog Articles – Part 1 of 11 (to 26 May 2015)

EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.

… with friends and foes!
So far, so good, Brockers. We got one of Pastbeyond80’s comments to the top of the BEST list at The Hill. Hope it stays there. Thanks Charl for giving us a good target for our up-arrows.
OMG! I meant Pastbeyond60. Didn’t mean to add 20 years to your life. 🙁
Lol EmBee! I got a good chuckle out of that one!
Well EmBee I was actually lying about my age, shucks you outed me!!!!! Knowing the ravages of time cannot be seen I took some liberty….um, you’d be closer to correct!!!!
Thanks for the laugh….after this disgusting article and this garbage still being spewed we all need a belly laugh. Damn, you’d think The Hill would know better after we decimated them just about a week ago. Are they insane?
@All
May I use such language:
US Financial Apartheid involving systematic discrimination against US persons living overseas.
Better said another way, or shorter? I am thinking of ambushing FATCA software firms on Twitter, when they Tweet their software etc.
Such as:
FYI XYZ company supports US Financial Apartheid involving systematic discrimination against US persons living overseas #FATCA (then link in there a FATCA article, or Wanted Ginny picture)
Twitter these days at #FATCA is looking more dominated by the anti FATCA faction.
@ JC
I know using “apartheid” is punchier but consider simply saying, “FYI XYZ company supports systematic discrimination against US persons living overseas …”
I hate seeing #fatca flooded by compliance condors too. Thanks for doing what you’re doing to stem the tide.
I prefer “discrimination” too.

Tax Season IRS Cutbacks Bring More Headaches for Expats, Debra Bruno, Wall Street Journal, 2015.04.07
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-04-09/the-irs-has-new-favorite-people-to-audit
“The only major group that saw an increase in their chances of an audit last year? Taxpayers living overseas. New laws and regulations on investments held overseas have made their tax filing much more difficult.”
Doesn’t that make you feel special?
We’re witnessing the IRS’s crash and burn. With an indecipherable tax code, its inability to assist taxpayers who want to pay and its unwillingness to collect tax liabilities less than $1M from those who won’t, it’s actually encouraging non-compliance.
Tax reform can’t come soon enough.
@BC Doc
Can we conclude that the auditing of offshore individuals is turning up fewer wealthy people? If so, this is a significant blow to those who support the war on offshore tax evasion.
Quit your whining about the FATCA IGA people (sarcasm), Canada sits in 6th place of 133 countries – the highest of any G7 nation – in an annual “social progress index” to be released Thursday.

Calling EmBee — and/or anyone else who can add to this timely Canadian video, something that affects us with the IGA that brought FATCA here to override Canadian laws and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms enabling discrimination by national origin of one million Canadians deemed *US citizens*, as well as their Canadian-only or other nationality spouses, their children, their business partners, etc. …
@ calgary411
“I don’t know what I did to him but Stephen Harper sure hates me.” Powerful video. “I don’t know what he did to you but maybe Stephen Harper hates you too.” I think we could all come up with some extra verses for this one. I’m soon away for the day but I’ll think on it while I’m out.
Got one …
I’m a “U.S. person” now
Because I lived there for awhile
When the FATCA law got passed
It changed my whole lifestyle
My bank’s out to get me
Find everything on file
They’ll hand it to the I.R.S.
Make Stephen Harper smile
I don’t know what I did to him
But Stephen Harper sure hates me
The photo from the Bloomberg homepage uses a photo of someone pouring glasses of champagne to go along with the article. That’s the stereotype used to describe us– wealthy Champagne swilling tax cheats living the good life in Europe. If they only knew the reality– I almost choked on my Okanagan Spring Pale Ale when I saw the photo! (I have a screen capture– not sure how to post here).
I received 5 thumbs down, and called a tax cheat (by I assume a fellow Canadian) over at the Globe article. Anyone else want to chime in over there?
Em, that’s great. You’re a pro. Do you want to add it to the YouTube comments, asking for more verses.
Any more?
I don’t know if this will get past the paywall but Financial Times article mentions Marilyn, Stephen, Allison and a mystery woman we know as “Linda”

@ calgary411
Just got back home from a dreamy mountain drive. Sorry, I haven’t got anymore verses. I doubt anyone on that Youtube would know much about FATCA and I can’t do Youtube comments anyway but if anyone wants to chuck my verse in there, it’s fine with me. I really like these Atlantic Romantics. They’ve got heart.
@ Dreamer
I gave you thumbs up (L.Wilson too for the back-up comment).
Not sure anyone saw this interesting read…
