EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.

The IRS gives us tips on reporting foreign income. So detailed are these tips that I can’t see how anyone makes mistakes on this stuff. It covers just about all angles in amazing detail.
Or it’s total rubbish providing almost no information to the extent that you think its some kind of joke.
Guess which one before reading:

I’m sure I guessed correctly Neill. (Easy – smeasy, dudes!! What’s all the fuss and hiring of US tax compliance professionals?)
Amazing tripe — we’re in a different reality:

Senator Richard Burr (R-NC):
4.38: “The American people have a big disconnect when they [Obama administration] say that Congress has to sign off on a trade agreement but not a nuclear agreement.”
So is an IGA more like a nuclear agreement or a trade agreement?
Good one for the SWAT

Article is full of it. One expat comment.
Interesting series of comments in the Japan Times http://www.japantoday.com/category/business/view/attention-u-s-taxpayers-are-you-ready-for-fatca
Some commenters (and US apologists), not surprisingly, don’t understand/misrepresent what the FEIE is and its serious flaws and imitations or the many other pitfalls that can lead to owing US taxes notwithstanding a lower EARNED income (ex. sale of house, non-earned income, etc.) . Several repeat the misinformation that ALL expats can vote absentee from abroad easy peasy ( but aprox. half of the US states will refuse absentee voter registration and voting from abroad to those without a period of US residency).
Arrogant and vindictive comments about ‘duals’ ‘exploiting’ their dual status. No understanding of the double taxation, etc.
There’s an interesting development being discussed at Maple Sandbox today.

House Ways and Means Committee Passes Bills to Reform IRS
http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/tax-practice/house-ways-means-committee-passes-bills-reform-irs-74108-1.html
H.R. 1058, the Taxpayer Bill of Rights Act of 2015, would enshrine the Taxpayer Bill of Rights,
Lets not forget #10: Right to a Fair and Just Tax System. So about fairness not just ‘the law is the law.’ I wanted to get a few more rights in there such as: Right to Reasonable Compliance cost for tax owed.
H.R. 1026, the Taxpayer Knowledge of IRS Investigations Act, would provide taxpayers with information on whether they were being investigated by the IRS and whether the investigation was open or closed.
H.R. 1105, the Death Tax Repeal Act of 2015, which would eliminate the estate tax.
I heard on the radio in Australia talk of changing the system for the Australian Tax Office, from must prove innocence, to the presumption of innocence. So perhaps there is some global trend in rolling back powers of taxing authorities.
Government “Stats” Strike Again

@JC
“Of course, lobbyists are already lining up to spend the $150 billion in new tax revenues. The US Public Interest Research Group Education Fund (USPIRGED) published a report entitled What America Could Do With $150 Billion Lost to Offshore Tax Havens. Among other spending priorities, USPIRGED suggests providing Pell Grants for 10 million students, doubling federal spending on education, and even a $1,068 tax cut for every person who files taxes in America.”
It’s not hard to imagine why the US has the deficits it has.
@Bb
Are you referring to the financial, the intellectual, or the moral?
“BC couple torn: Pay down debt, or borrow and invest?” David Israelson, Globe and Mail, 26 March.
“…Another issue that affects the couples’ finances is that Chester is a U.S. citizen, … What’s the best way for Chester and Adrianna to reconcile their financial issues – paying down their mortgage versus borrowing and dealing with US taxation? …”
Maybe all of the above, Shovel

On the bright side, at least Elizabeth Warren doesn’t seem to be in the running
It takes a lot to surprise me when it comes to government shenanigans but this one did just that. Since 2008 real estate agents in Canada have been filling out forms on all buyers and sellers and assessing whether they might be terrorists. It’s the law. They are required to send these forms on anyone they deem to be suspicious to FINTRAC. This is an interview with a real estate agent …

I would hold off on sending this until Tuesday (April Fools Day) but, while a real hoot, this article is for real and circulating all over the Sympatico.ca world today. Thought it time for something light. Enjoy (subtitle = There is a Canadian menace leaving it’s mark in Washington, D.C.). Ah, if we could only menace DC a bit more…….. LOL

After Ted Cruz abolishes the IRS, he is going to send 110,000 IRS agents to patrol the Mexican border.
He says Imagine a New America.
The Guardian says our former Canadian will never make it to even the Republican nomination. They also say do not mention the C word. I am not sure if the C word is Citizen, Canadian or Cuban. It could be a triple C Jeopardy for Cruz.
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/mar/24/ted-cruz-us-presidential-hopeful
BTW, I wrote to Cruz while he was still a Canadian and asked him to help us. I even suggested:
If you don’t want to do it for us, here’s another good reason to do it. It will tick off your adversaries President Obama and Senator Levin. Finally, if you really want to send Obama and Levin into a tizzy, you could work with Senator Rand Paul to Repeal FATCA.

Blaze:
Your article is absolutely fabulous!!!! I didn’t see it when it first appeared so thank you so much for posting it here. It is very timely since Senator Cruz is now candidate Cruz. Thanks again!
