Media and Blog Articles – Part 1 of 11 (to 26 May 2015)
You can access all years at this link:

EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.

@heartsick
I have a feeling that the Republicans will just sit there & do just a tad to make themselves look good for the large election…. Democrats will fight whatever they do to pander the votes… I understand the heart of it is CBT but we can only go after something we can go after for now… rid this bs Fatca & IGA… I talk with homelanders… majority of them don’t know about CBT… it makes no sense to them either
Why don’t they all question… where does the IRS & Treasury have the authority to do this… enough people hate the IRS & treasury… if u attack on their authority… more people will jump on to agree… its like letting a clerk… decides what is to be done… how to do it… no one in power will allow that… everyone in the gov’t is greedy for their power… if one takes power they think belong to them… crap will start to fly
@ US_Foreign_Person The homelanders will only be concerned if FATCA is ever enforced in their own country which is highly unlikely. The US has refused to sign on to GATCA which does not go after resident accounts. CBT makes no sense to anybody who understands it, the homelanders do not understand that is not simple taxation. In a perfect world, no one would owe taxes under CBT because they are already taxed. Most of the tax results from the US taxation of our registered accounts which we are punished for having and our investments in non-US mutual funds. It doesn’t matter that the US government treats the taxation of similar registered accounts in the US very differently from those we hold. Of course some homelanders seem to think that we don’t pay taxes on the first $97,000 of income anywhere, they think we can afford to pay taxes to the US because of this. This lack of education works against us. The Republicans could make it their mission to show the inequities of the taxation of those overseas, actually recognize that those overseas should be entitled to the same savings choices as the homelanders. Actually recognize and enforce their Taxpayers Bill of Rights.

And recent news articles on FATCA show.
Most recently are by the Indian Press. Some accept comments, some don’t.
10 Things you need to know about FATCA appears modeled off of the Robert Wood one:

I have a comment in moderation.
“No commentary on the “acceptance” of IGAs would be complete without recognizing that Africa is heavily represented amongst the population of Non IGA jurisdictions, as are parts are Asia. (This is also true of the CRS.) Very few of these countries are secrecy jurisdictions of any description. Moreover, many of the poorest countries in the world are of a Non IGA persuasion. If there truly are victims of FATCA, they are likely to be found in these jurisdictions.”

Charl: Happy New Year. Thanks so much for what you’re doing over at the RO website.
Look, I have zero desire to get into FaceBook, but could you or someone else post my thoughts…..IF, you agree with them. As Stephen Kish said, TELL THEM WHAT YOU WANT specifically. Point taken SK.
The best thing they could ask for is get a “short term” court injunction against the FATCA/CBT fatwa under the guise of their lawsuit. This could just throw it back into the unenforced no man’s land it’s always been in and (the important part) let many politicians of both stripes blame someone else for the failure of FATCA (many of whom think dropping this would be right because they’re actually HUMANS) hopefully never to be resurrected again. This way, EVERYONE has a “face saving” (that part is very important) way out of this crap, and, basically, EVERYONE’S a winner.
Of course, we Brockers could use the time during the indefinite injunction to get the hell out of our US entrapment for the next time some malicious bozo tries this as a fundraiser for the US treasury.
Steve just posted this on another thread. Poor premie born in US now will be tainted a la Boris:
http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jan/01/british-couple-hospital-bill-baby-born-new-york?CMP=EMCNEWEML6619I2#_=_
Comments are mostly about healthcare arguments/costs but I put a small one about the fact the poor child is a USC.
THE LATEST FATCA PROPAGANDA & ATROCITIES
https://www.dollarvigilante.com/blog/2014/12/30/the-latest-fatca-propaganda-atrocities.html
@Tricia There will have to be pressure put on our countries to issue travel advisories for pregnant woman not to travel to the US due to the risk of giving birth to a USC. The hospital bill is bad enough, US citizenship is just more punishment.
You are so right abut that heartsick!
There is at least one really irritating one over at the Guardian. I am going to bed.
Great to see Victoria back at the Flophouse. She’s just posted two very interesting pieces as she makes final preparations for her departure to Japan.

@ Heartsick & Tricia –
I agree!!!
And maybe all us IBS folk should be forwarding this warning (and the weblink http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jan/01/british-couple-hospital-bill-baby-born-new-york?CMP=EMCNEWEML6619I2#_=_) to every travel agent/agency we know in Canada.
In 2015 we should try to spread the word to non-US-tainted folk in Canada!
At the bottom of this forwarded link, include a request that they check out the ADCS site and consider helping (in even some small way) to reinstate the Charter of Rights and Freedoms for us all!!!
The story about the UK couple stranded in New York with their pre-mature baby is getting media coverage in Europe:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/uk-couple-stranded-in-new-york-after-their-baby-arrived-11-weeks-early-face-potential-130000-medical-bill-9953007.html
http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/spendenaufruf-britisches-paar-sitzt-nach-fruehgeburt-in-new-york-fest-a-1010999.html
RE the Guardian article about the British premie –
Looked over the most recent comments – – while there may be something further down the 100s of comments, no one was mentioning the US-taint now on that family, the (at least 18 year) potential tax filing burden and if mommy or daddy holds a joint account with baby…….. YIKES, bet they won’t have fond memories of that trip!!!!!
Karma…..
http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/world/Senate+Democratic+leader+Harry+Reid+falls+exercise+equipment/10696767/story.html
@PierreD – I think that’s not the right Reid. I believe it’s Jack Reed (& Chuck Schumer) you are probably thinking of:
Reed Offers Amendment to Prevent Ex-Citizen Tax Dodgers from Reentering the U.S. – U.S. Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island http://www.reed.senate.gov/news/releases/reed-offers-amendment-to-prevent-ex-citizen-tax-dodgers-from-reentering-the-us
Now if only the two of them would drive off a bridge in the same car, or something. That would be Karma!

Really good article in French about what is going on with FATCA and what could be called U.S. predatory hegemony. My one caution would be that what the author is describing is not some new phenomenon. There is space for comments, but this article is two days old now.

@Publius
I learned a new word: chantage = blackmail.
I dont get it. Everybody knows what is going on- but it seems there is no defense.
@Polly – right? WHY is everyone putting up with this Bullsh**???
What more can we do? No one seems too interested in protesting outside of US consulates and I’m not at the stage where I want to immolate myself on the Whitehouse lawn yet. I’d much prefer to renounce anyway.
Laura Saunders (WSJ) has a new article up. It’s paywalled but try the trick:

Fair bit of comment on expat issues including mention of the Republican Committee comments that its time to reform our issues
