Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. I’ll make a permanent list of links posted here and keep adding to it, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” of FATCA/CBT articles. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Notes:
From JC: To see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate. Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
From Badger: On an important archival note, please use the Internet Archive Wayback machine https://archive.org/web/ (see bottom right ‘Save Page Now’ box to enter URLs of webpages you want saved for posterity, and try to save backup copies of articles and other items of interest in some other form – such as a datastick or external drive. Some important and very significant webpages and the fulltexts of articles are no longer available (although some can be retrieved if someone using the Wayback machine saved them).
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that aren’t on this list yet.

The video in the tweet stops short. He talked about FATCA beyond the end of the video.
Well Mnuchin said bugger all about FATCA this morning. In fact he said bugger all on tax reform as well to this untrained ear.
@Neill
Sorry, I couldn’t see that. Can’t figure out how to turn my AdBlocker off.
Mnuchin probably has no clue whatever as to what is going on…….he got the job bc he was the $$ guy during the campaign. Probably more interested in his fiance and her film company……..
T&T opposition to FATCA illusory. Enabling legislation passed.

The FATCAt eats the mouse.
It’s suiting that T & T’s banking association would makes its final appeal against FATCA resistance at the Scotiabank Centre yesterday:
In a barefaced omission of truth, the BATT president states: “Let me be very clear here. The only information that will be reported to the BIR (Board of Inland Revenue) is the account information of US persons only.” She added: “To suggest otherwise is simply ‘fake news’.” Asked about Opposition Leader Kamla Persad- Bissessar writing Trump about the possible repeal of FATCA, Schnoor pointed out that it was passed in 2010 by the US Congress as a part of wide ranging legislation.”

@ Bubblebustin
Indeed! The FATCAt ate the mouse that dared to squeak out. The BATT president is a conniving, deceiving blankety-blank who wouldn’t recognize or acknowlege the truth about FATCA even if it was in capital letters, bold print, and right in front of his mealymouthed face.
ATTENTION AMERICANS
Do you know where your SSN is today?
https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/auditreports/2016reports/201640065fr.pdf
On page 3 …
During the period February 2011 to December 2015, the IRS identified almost 1.1 million taxpayers who were victims of employment-related identity theft.
Wonder how many SSNs have been snatched, for nefarious purposes, from the FATCA data transfers? It’s a lot of data and it passes by many eyes on its way to the IRS. Not all those eyes are benevolent. Should you ever become the victim of identity theft then good luck straightening that mess out from “overseas”.
Another good episode of the IRS Medic. Guests are “Mike” from Scandinavia and Keith Redmond.
@Embee
I know of a guy who wasn’t taken into a firm as a one fourth partner because he had an american passport! So I dont get the 50/50 “controlling” thing.
@ Polly
Anthony double checked the “controlling” thing so I think he’s probably right. I would think that no matter how much the percentage is, a potential American partner is perceived as a risk due to some IRS form or another. Perhaps when Keith Redmond testifies to the Ways and Means Committee (he guesses late March or early April) he’ll have a chance to bring this aspect up as well. There’s so much harm and he’ll have so little time to explain everything to the committee members. However they are new members and I think they just might be more receptive than previous members. Fingers crossed anyway.
@Embee
Fingers crossed tightly!
EmBee: Thank you so much for posting the latest IRS Medic interview. It was great to hear that the testimony of Keith et al. before Congress is still on and planned for the end of April or beginning of May. Can’t wait!
@MuzzledNoMore
Oh oh, my brain must have short-circuited and shortened the wait period after listening to Anthony, Claudine, Keith and “Mike”. So it’s April or thereabouts we’ll have another interesting event in the sorry life of FATCA. I hope the Ways & Means members have keener ears than me.

@Neill
I am pretty sure these people filled out the w-8 forms at the bank… not being hunted through the banks… so all that info was at hand… If they used a US addy…. they flew under…. Notice they made no mention on the amounts in the banks…. could be a nominal amount the US reported… making the number reported look larger then it really is…
https://hillnotes.wordpress.com/2017/03/01/update-the-canada-u-s-intergovernmental-agreement-and-sharing-financial-information/
Grrrr
From the Hill Notes update that Charl just found …
“However, the court said that the plaintiffs could pursue a constitutional challenge in relation to the intergovernmental agreement; so far, they have not done so.”
I hope someone from the ADCS team will post a comment to reassure the Hill Notes folks that a constitutional challenge is “in progress” and it would have progressed much further towards a court date if the government team weren’t using stall tactics.
